We have to agree with them. X-Play blows away the other guys. Wait a second, how many other guys are there?
G4 has struggled to be "cool" for months now, and they've succeeed at one thing. They've reminded everyone that gamers
aren't supposed to be cool. The GameDaily piece correctly pinpoints the success of the Sessler/Webb effort — they
embrace all that is geek. Screw cool. Leave that to MTV. Make a bad joke. Choke on the bad joke. Let the bad joke haunt
you and fill you with doubt about your ability to ever get a date.
That's the name of this gamer game. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way.
GameDaily calls X-Play the best gaming show on TV

I gotta disagree. I think it's the most annoying show on G4. And that Adam dude's voice is so annoying. He's crossed over the line from geek to loser.
Judgement Day is way better.

Whatever your opinions on Adam Sessler may be, I find it hard to consider Judgment Day superior in any way. At very least, Adam and Morgan understand games, and they have a pretty good idea of what seperates the good games from the bad.
Judgement Day seems to base their reviews on either which games have "the biggest boobies" or whoever is sponsoring their current episode.

Both X-Play and Judgement Day are average/below-average shows. I'd say X-Play has a slight edge over JD.
Though it's good to be funny sometimes, XP tries to do it ALL the time. That can wear on you. Everytime I watch Adam I get the "I'm-not-sure-what-I'm-talking-about-so-I'll-distract-you-with- wild-gestures-and-goofy-facial-expressions-as-I-try-to-be-funny" feeling. That can be distracting.
Tommy Tallarico is what brings JD down. His commentary doesn't help anyone. Ninety percent of it is negative; even on good games. Victor on the other hand is probably the best game reviewer/commentator of all the hosts.

I agree with this. Sessler and Webb ARE geeks. Geeks should be telling me which games are good, and which are crap... not fucking Tommy Talarico or some other dipshit who thinks he is cool. Give me a self concious dork over a cocky poseur for my game reviews any day!
Plus... Morgan Webb makes my heart go pee.

X-Play is the only reason I watch TechTV now. It is, more often than not, actually laugh out loud funny if not giggleworthy, with writing that astutely digs deep on into reasons why a game is good or not - and does it in such a way that it rings true with serious gamers. People can tell when its just canned. I can see why people find Adam annoying (I don't personally, but hey, to each his own), but I don't think there's any way one can say that at the very least X-play doesnt TRY. It is by far the best videogame show on TV.
JD cannot begin to compete with X-Play. Tommy Tallarico ranting and raving and screaming != "edge" or "personality."
Good article....sums up quite nicely why X-Play kicks ass.
And yes Morgan is pretty.
One other sidenote:
Is CHEAT the worst show ever or what? First there was the asinine male host who they apparently dumped for the hot chick host whose lack of "gaming cred" is apparent as soon as she opens her mouth. Gah.

No, Cheat is beaten out by Filter, which is the most embarassing gaming show EVAR.
X-play is the only reason to watch G4, now. Consistently funny, passionate about games and the best reviews present. Judgement Day is not quite as embarassing as Filter, but it's not an exagerration to say that Tallarico's reveiws actually consider huge breasts as a solid criteria for review (see Rumble Roses, Outlaw Golf, Prince of Persia, etc).
Sessler and Webb come across as people who've actually played the games, good AND bad, and who aren't pushing them. It's funny, in a sad way, to see older episodes of JD where they talk up a game, and then later episodes where they review it and how different the impressions are. It shows how transparent their dependency on manufacturers actually is. Archival E3 coverage is painful.
X-Play misses sometimes, too, but it comes across of well-intentioned failure. And even at their worst, X-Play is still far better than anything else on G4.

XPlay is slightly better, but I do like how JD does comparison reviews (although some times the comparison doesn't make sense). Morgan Webb has a nice body, but I don't like her face. The girls modeling the hardware reviews for JD are MUCH hotter. In either case, there aren't many competitors so you're kinda stuck with one or the other.

Judgment Day is easily the best gaming show on TV. Tommy is a normal human being with normal tastes. Some of the BS games that geeks drool over (KOTOR) deserve to be attacked for their lack of high energy. JD doesn't pile on the stupid punned banter and Adam Sessler may be the worst host this side of Corey Rousse.

G4 is not responsible for the success of "X-Play." It was a TechTV property. The only thing G4 has been successful at in the past year since it acquired TechTV was drive away the much larger fan base by cancelling in succession each of TechTV's highly (rated much higher than anything on G4) rated shows like "Call for Help" and "Unscrewed with Martin Sargent." G4 ruined "The Screen Savers" so much that now it is being renamed today as "Attack of the Show" to no fault of Kevin Rose. Way to go. Take an existing network that had better ratings than the Bravo Network, and drive it into the ground below what the Golf Channel and the TV Guide Channel receive...and then call it a success. Aside from "Icons" what is actually worth watching on G4 that wasn't previously a TechTV property? The answer is "nothing." We're talking about a network that thinks quality programming is repeating everything over-and-over-again or broadcasting in prime time a show made up of five minute segments of video game playing and/or trailers to games (ala "Cinematech"). Prior to ruining TSS and cancelling "Unscrewed", my friends and I watched a good 3 hours of TechTV daily. Now we don't watch any of G4. Way to go. In comparison, "Judgment Day" is nothing more than a promo piece for what the latest title being sold at EB Games is. In fact, its surprising that G4's corporate parent is Comcast because from the impression made on the viewer from the programming, you'd think it was EB Games considering how far the hand seems to be up the puppet's [G4] backside. The best thing that could be done for X-Play would be to move it to SpikeTV.

Ditto to the Jeremy! G4 completely ruined TechTV but I'm glad X-Play is still on even though I liked it's mellower early version better despite it's lack of Morgan Webb. It can be obnoxious but Morgan balances out Adam pretty well and she's not just a cute second banana for ogling.
It deserves to be on a better network instead of the ashes of what used to be the only true geek network.

REVIEW THE REVIEWERS!
Adam sessler:
personal: sometimes funny sometimes annoying
reviewer: good
morgan webb:
personal: i'd hit that
reviewer: good
tommy talarico:
personal: funny occasionally, but not very gamerish
reviewer: too negative, sometimes gives good scores to total crap (see: horse racing game)
victor whatshisface:
personal: nice guy, easy to follow
reviewer: TOO EASY!! stop giving in you feeble minded fool! give something a bad score so i dont accidently buy that worthless crap and poison the sanctity and holyness of my gaming chamber with that filth!
cory ross (aka ex-cheat host):
personal: so annoying i want to kill him
reviewer: his show's worthless anyway, the internet is where to get your cheats if you're into that (would you really copy down a 20-button combination off the tv IF they were reviewing the game you happened to be playing?)
dian mizota:
personal: kind of "off"
reviewer: she doesnt know crap about the games she's talking about but props for the dreamcast filter episode
jonathan drubner (the lesser-known host of random video game shows on mtv2 and on IO digital cable's "24/7gamer" on demand series):
personal: i'd kill him just for his annoying voice
reviewer: much like 90% of the people speaking about games on his shows, he doesnt know jack about games. They get lame celebrities to talk about how they all remembered some vague qoute rachel valentine said in a cutscene from resident evil, how the hell do they know? celebrities dont know anything! only loser geeks like me remember stupid lame stuff like that.
i wont go on about the other people on "the screensavers" but ill just say some are good some are bad (the best are the old ones that left).
and as for those 2 women who host g4tv.com, they're good, they know their stuff and THEY should be on the air more often for their fine well-informed work.
Hey, just becuase you have a pretty face and can speak clearly doens't mean you suddenly can say anything about videogames that you THINK you know, SO SHUT IT!

This show has been good since it was "Extended Play" (when Adam a loner). Tech Tv has a bunch of hosts who fake to like something, but X-play's host will tell you the truth even if you won't like the truth.

Would much rather have beers with Tommy and Victor, would sooner trust the reviews of X Play. Oh, and I thought the old Cheat host was cool, at least as compared to the Games Workshop crowd that usually ends up in your average console game store. The bimbo they replaced him with couldn't hold a candle to him. Speaking of bimbos, Diane Mizota is their other cardboard box with boobs. They make her fricking cosplay to keep viewers interested. She's not even a good enough actor to keep us from realizing she's not in to games at all.

Don't diss "Unscrewed," Alex. It was funny and definitely unlike anything else on tv. To my knowledge, nobody else has combined the positive elements of "Late Night with David Letterman" (from his heyday) with the subjects covered by "Coast to Coast"...formerly hosted by Art Bell.

I do agree that X-play is the best gaming show on tv right now. It's funny at times (and alot funnier than the other g4 shows), but I still can't get over the fact that I liked Extended Play so much better. Kate Botello was geekier than geeky and Adam didn't seem like he was diagnosed with ADD (he had hair, too). It has been getting better and better over the years though. Oh well, it's still the best show on the whole network.

idk I just read a lot of your freakin' comments but G4 definitely murdered TechTV.. Unfortunately I still find myself watching G4 a lot because there's so much unwatchable crap on the rest of the stations. I love XPlay because I think it's hilarious and enjoy watching them talk about games even when I have no intention of ever playing them. Judgement Day is probably a better reviewing show but you have to kind of know Vic and Tommy to appropriately weight your opinion to theirs. Old TSS was so much better than AotS but I still like watching s live show that's just generally pointless. In the promos they make it out like they'll show you secret information but they just talk about whatever entertainment sort of things they can come up with. Most of the other shows are unwatchable except Icons if it's something cool and G4TV.com which is ok.

X-Play is the only show worth watching on television because it is consistantly hilarious and Sessler is a huge reason for this!
X-Play was first premired as "gamespottv" (7/4/98)on zdtv with lauren fielder which morphed into "extended play" with kate borello on techtv then Sess ran the show by himself untill it because x-play on g4 /w morgan webb.
Sessler is a geek who thrives off of making people laugh and most of the time he does it to perfection! He will tell you that most games are a "3" because they are worth a rental unless you are a huge fan of the series/game in question.
I disagree with "what x-play does wrong". Especially the comparision of other g4 shows should not weigh against x-play. Save that for your review of them!
jd is an abomination, the hosts are annoying and I look forward to you tearing the show apart in your next review of g4 programming like somethingawful.com has already has!

edit:
Sessler is a genuine geek & he has been on "X-Play" since it premiered as "Gamespottv".
Funny how I missed the point I was trying to make *ack*!It was 4:33am.
The entire staff of X-Play should be appreciated for their wonderful, warped, sense of humor used in all the writing, editting of video games clips and all the small details together that make it such a great show to watch, even if you have already seen a particular episode before.
The hilarious, creativeness of X-Play skits makes it a show that many geeks have requested on dvd because they are worth it! "RPG:Radiculopathy" will never become "out-dated" and neither will other skits. Geek humor is timeless!
G4 plays X-Play in heavy rotation because they bought a priceless gem from techtv. X-Play is the ONLY show G4 has not canceled or ruined(tss)from Techtv. We geeks fear the worst but hope for the best.
X-Play is perfectly executed entertainment!

Xplay is an excellent show but its tone has changed since Webb joined the cast and not necessarily in a good way. Before on extended play it was just a couple of geeks talking about games {Kate and Adam}, then it was one geek (Adam} talking about games which was kind of sad with no sidekick. So they bring in Morgan who is not the natural comedian that Adam is so the show now has this highly scripted feel to it and it sucked initially but the writing is getting better. However, since she has joined the show the dynamic has been that she is the cool hot chick and Adam the loser and his humiliation the punch line of every joke. This is getting tiresome and I believe it is what annoys people about him (where is your dignity man).
Also when did Morgan become cool, on the screensavers she was this super nerd that used to give us fun tips on how to edit your registry yay! Now all of a sudden she is a hot chick, granted now she stands strait and sticks her boobs out and dresses a little better. I do however believe she is gamer and that her acting has improved from terrible to passable. All that said the show is still good and JD is entertaining even though it may not be informative.

1st of all while morgan has a great rack thats about it she does not know jack shit about games hell she dislikes games and second adams "look im stoopid laugh at me" shit is partly morgan webb's fault because come on the less adam actually talks about games the less morgan is showed as a brainless eyecandy
now about the e3 coverage hmmm their so called panel is as follows adam says something slightly insightful about a game and see a jeckyl and hyde level struggle play across his face as the dumbass and adam vie for control
kevin P. chimes in trying to be funny fails miserably and instead trys to be cool fails at that worse then goes into the screw you im cool sits back and glare at adam
morgan all the while wearing something tight and slightly slutty out of nowhere says something about how pretty the game is and because the guy in her earpiece is talking to fast she loses her train of "thought" and adam acts like an ass to cover her ass then theres the guy from whatever website that came as a package deal with techtv
