File this under speculative for now, but details have emerged about a patent Sony was granted back in
2003. The technology, which admittedly is decades away from realization*, will stimulate the neural cortex with
low-frequency pulses, in turn, producing sensations like sights, tastes, and sounds. Matrix-enthusiasts take
note: no implants involved. Bottom line is, don't expect Sony to be unveiling this technology alongside the PS3
next month…
*The patent will expire in 17 years.

With what Sony is doing with the manufacturing of CELL and RSX, and the level of entertainment they are providing, I am sure that they will come up with such a technology much before we would have expected. Remember they have excellence in both hardware and software, see they are running games/softwares like Gran Turismo 4, god of war and Shadow of the Colossus on the 32mb ram and 296 MHz processor of the PS2, which even the most advanced PCs can't manage to run even with their 3.2 GHz processors and 1GB ram and also 128 bit heavy memory gfx cards that are hardware, and Sony's Emotion Engine in PS2 was only a 128 bit 'Engine' and not a hardware chip !
Great work Sony !
