On April 25, MTV will launch a new web-based channel
delivering short videos on demand. They're calling it Overdrive.
Initially, MTV Overdrive will include six "channels" of programming that basically map to MTV's usual content mix: highlights, news, music, behind-the-scenes, movies, celebrity interviews. Typical MTV stuff, love it or hate it.
Word is that MTV also plans to add an Overdrive channel focusing on video games. No other details are available, but how would this work? The service was characterized by MTV Networks President Van Toffler as "short-form linear viewing with an on-demand experience." Doesn't sound very game-like, but hey, we're ready to be surprised. Drop us a tip if you hear anything more about this.
