Prediction: Incredible Hulk game is going to be good

We don't like to make predictions around here. Mostly because we're always wrong. It's kind of irritating, yes. But
head on over to 1up and see what may be the coolest clip I've seen in awhile. The movie (which plays whether you like
it or not) shows off a sequence from the next Hulk title.
The clip starts off pretty bland. Hulk run, Hulk smash, blah, blah, blah. There's no gameplay to speak of, and the run
and smash thing has been done before. In fact, I have some serious resevations about a Hulk that would destroy human
life so carelessly. One of the character's strongest points is that he's misunderstood. He may kill by accident, but
not in the way the game has him doing it.
Then comes :57. At around one minute in, the green guy pulls a trick out of his hat that must be seen to be believed.
It may be overkill, but it's awesome overkill. That little touch may make the game worth owning right there. Me
want.

So he can run up vertical walls; and you think this would be a GOOD thing? It seems horribly lame. Why does being an overly massive musclebound rage ball give him the ability to run up a vertical wall? or accellerate horizontally when in the air? or change direction in mid-air?
I think it looks pretty lame, personally. Then again, the hulk has always been pretty lame anyway.

The hulk was only cool in the made for TV movie with the DareDevil (which was also the last cool DareDevil movie as well). Why on earth is the hulk running up the sides of buildings? Was it just me, or did those buildings look pretty bland as well? Also, was he flapping his arms to boost him while he flew through the air? Why the heck is the Hulk flying?
As an aside, I don't understand why Hollywood (and now game developers) deem it necessary to give all superhero characters the same super power subset (i.e, leap from building top to building top, fly through air, move at incredible speeds). It's like we have the same superhero wearing a different outfit from movie to movie and game to game. The most recent DareDevil movie was nothing more than Spider-Man in a fully red outfit. The Hulk was given powers to leap from mountain to mountain and practically fly, which was NEVER part of his original power that I can remember! How many more comic book heros can we take and destroy? Marvel needs to quit selling out so easily.

I have been a fan of the hulk comics for a long time. I hope and pray that the game turns out to be awesome but after watching the clip it looks like the game is going to suck a$$. The clip started off great. It was really cool to see the Hulk swat a cop away like he was a fly and barrel through the streets and mow down everything in sight. But then he starts running up a wall...wtf...maybe if he climbed up the walls real fast or something...but run...what is he spider-hulk. And changing directions in mid air...again wtf. Add to that the whole things looks really repetetive ...just watching the clip got boring after a while. I also don't appreciate the fact that the developers seem hell bent on delivering to you just one facet of a tremendously intriguing character. The whole point of the hulk is the turmoil and remorse of Bruce Banner knowing that he has no control over the Hulk. You can just punt that out of the game cause you dont like it and after reading the article it seems like that is what they are doing.
Just my two cents

The Hulk's leaps have been used in the comics since the days of Stan and Jack. The Hulk is superstrong, including his leg muscles, it makes sense.
Power-wise, Daredevil has always been basically Spider-man only in a red suit. Except when it was yellow and red. The difference comes from the characterization and the situations that arise from it.
If there's one thing Marvel doesn't do with its movies anymore, it is let them change the characters the way it is being suggested here. The movie may suck, but it isn't because they're altering the concept behind it.
And I think this game looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

I agree completely with the opinions above. It looks like they just want to cash in on the Hulk license, and since Spiderman got such great reviews for being able to swing around the whole city, they want a piece of that action. Don't even get me started on the zooming around in mid-air thing, that's just ridiculous. I'm sure the developers justify it as a game mechanic in order for them to allow you to jump around from building to building (which apparently is a lot of fun, don't ask me why), but it shouldn't even be there.
Conclusion: Looks crappy.
Sean @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
Am I all sorts of crazy, or did they just drop the Hulk into Spiderman2 and call it a day? Interface sure looks familiar...and all I can remember people saying about Spidey was how addicting it was to forego actual gameplay and just climb on buildings and jump around. Hrm.
Sean @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
ALSO: A trick that must be "seen to be believed?" I expected Hulk to eat cars and fart fiery bolts of death or start conning passerby with a shifty game of three card monty, not perform some rehashed and mindless jumping; sorry.
Joey Geraci @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
Can I just say, that looks like the most boring piece of crap I have ever seen. And the whole changing direction in midair thing, wow, looks very unrealistic.
Tony @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
Too easily impressed. Skip predictions, eh? :)
Adam @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
Sorry dudes, but I think that this game looks like a lot of fun. I'll forgive the bland visuals since you're able to destroy everything. Very cool.
ChronoZaga @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
I'm with Sean. It looks like a Spiderman 2 cut and paste.
I hate to say it, but the free-roaming adventures are losing their luster. We need innovation, not more of the same.

I don't really have a problem with the wall running. Hulk has done it in the comics. Man you guys are jaded! I love the leaping from building to building. When he starts to drop I get vertigo. It does look a lot like SM reskinned though -- I'll give you that. I also hope there'll be more to do on the rooftops than toss water towers and ACs.
Radiant Silvergun @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM

JudoJet @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
*yawn*
It's superjump? So what? I've been doing almost exactly that with my Blaster in City of Heroes for the past 6 months.
Wake me up when there's a superhero game innovative enough to knock CoH off it's pedastal.
chris @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
*laughs at Radiant Silvergun*
That looks massively lame. Joystiq, im disappointed in you......unless you were being sarcastic? and if not, now would be a good time to pretend you were.
kevin @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
the hulk can do the People's Elbow! how is that lame?
KC @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
yeah thats a complete rip of spider man.
Andrew @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
IMO, the issue I see is the running up the walls is not in that the Hulk can't do it, but the physics and graphics are too much like what is seen in Spiderman 2. If they changed it so the buildings get effected and made it so the Hulk can't outdo Spiderman on wall running, I would accept it more.
Why is it in a city? This game seems like it would be better suited for the desert, mountains, and similar terran.
I completely agree that the Hulk is not about massive destruction. He is certainly capable of it, but doesn't just flail away and run straight through buses where innocent lives can be.
what about it @ Dec 18th 2005 8:44PM
