Xbox 360 verified? The real story behind the Project Gotham Racing 3 image.

With all the "first images" that have popped up for next-gen consoles, this one is certainly the most official. It comes from the ourcolony.net site, which is clearly a front for MS' marketing machine. But the interesting part isn't the image (which shows off so little that it's hard to get too excited). Rather, check out the image's binary code on the ourcolony.net page. Thanks to teamxbox, we get a look behind the curtain:

"C.a.r.R.e.n.d.e.r.3.6.0._M.a.g.a.z.i.n.e._.C.o.v.e.r."

This may be the first image to officially leak out. But we find it interesting that this is also the first mention of the "360" term from the powers-that-be at MS.

coincidence? Ferrari 360 and the next xbox rumoured to be named xbox360? sure looks like gotham with the licensed ferrari, here's hoping!!!

I'd have to bet that the "360" refers to the car being a Ferrari 360; whether it's a nod to the box's actual name or a tip of the hat to the rumor mill, it's a good play on words. :)

Do you think all the games on the XBox 360 will be suffixed with "360" like the curse the N64 had? ie: Project Gotham Racing 360.

I swear that's why there were so few games for the N64... nobody wanted to make a sequel called WaveRace 65, Bomberman 65 etc, etc.

It's actually a kind of genius name. In snowboarding and skateboarding instead of saying the entire rotation like 720 or 900 you just say "Cab 9" or "Switch 7". If people shorten the Xbox's name in the same way, it'd be "Xbox 3" That's right on par with the PS3.
