Warriors, come out to play…
Rockstar has revealed further details of its
upcoming game adaptation of the 1979 cult-classic, The Warriors. The game will be beat-em-up in the style of GTA
(huge, open levels). We're thinking a River City Ransom for the 21st Century—Rockstar threw the names "Double
Dragon" & "Streets of Rage" into its description. That's legacy…
Rockstar has promised to stay faithful to the movie's plot, but will also include a prequel in the game's story. Hopefully we'll all be seeing more of The Warriors soon—maybe E3? Whatever the case, it's definitely got our attention. We'll keep you posted.
[Thanks, Fady]

Hopefully it will be nothing like the dreadfully awful State of Emergency
e t waits @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
That's kind of depressing. The Warriors became a cult classic because of it's depth and incredibly subtle allusions. Turning it into a street brawling game is like turning Schindler's List into a sniping game.
Okay, maybe not that extreme.

It takes big cajones to make a game based on a very old, very bad movie. It would have to be a very, very good game.
guslav @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
uh...BAD?! the warriors is the greatest movie ever made by man and/or beast!
Captain James Skull @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Please please PLEASE don't ruin the warriors.
please.
Ryuukuro @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I wonder what Walter Hill thinks of this? The Warriors seems like a good idea for a game but I worry that Rockstar won't see that the movie doesn't work on violence.
frank @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Yeah, please don't ruin The Warriors. Let's start by getting the damn quote right. It's not "Warriors, come out and play," it's "Warriors, come out TO play."
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Yeah man, for all of it's flaws, Warriors as a film rises above and is a classic, despite the detractors that call it a very.
But I will tell you right now, what I want to see in a Warriors game: {Dare I say possible plans for a better game than what we have coming from Rockstar? Time will tell):
First off, it's ONLINE.
Next, while roaming the streets of a massive virtual NYC, you find and meet people to form a GANG, like say, the 'Ducky Boys' or the 'Furies' (I know, I know, Ducky Boys are from 'The Wanderers') and you have a set 'TURF' to defend...
Next, you are given a point across town to get to, like the Warriors had to... and you try to get there without losing too many heads to rival gangs in their turf, just like the Warriors did.
And it's all some ONLINE mayhem, something they should do with GTA soon...
F*$% all this Swords of Narnia Hobbit-Troll-Gelfling stuff... Let's WILD OUT on some gangland Massive Online experience.
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
'...Very Bad Film,' that was meant to say, I got attacked by my cat
wadodger @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
As someone who first watched Warriors back when it was on Beta (that would be a long time ago) I can't wait for the game.
As I read elsewhere today, apparently it's based upon a Persian Cyrus - can you diiiiigg it - and while trying to take the Persian throne, was killed and his Greek troops were stuck in enemy turf and had to fight their way back home. In this case, Coney Island. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I think the game will be great 'cause the story-line works. As did the movie.
And that it's on-line? Cannot wait.

wadodger @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Add one.
As Frank above said, it is "Come out TO playay."
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Yo man, I should clarify:
WARRIORS is NOT online...
I just said that I WISH it WOULD be... That was a fantasy scenario.
Can you dig it?
wadodger @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
"what I want to see in a Warriors game"

PLEASE GUYS SOMEBODY MAKE SURE THIS IS GONNA BE A KICK ASS GAME. THIS IS A CLASSIC AND I ALSO CONCIDERATE THIS MOVIE PART OF OUR CULTURE LETS MAKE IT WRIGHT AND GIVE US SOMETHING REALLY HARDCORE AND CLASSIC LIKE THE WARRIORS USE TO BE. MAKE THE WARRIOS COME BACK TO LIFE. GO ROCKSTAR
gil @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
just saw the warriors today. Think it is going to be nothing more than a brawler because i did not see any elements of puzzle solving when i watched the movie. Good, i love a good brawler when i see one. Hopefully, it stays true to the actual movie with the theme of survival where it is your gang of 8 against the freaken world. Brings back memories of early 90's brawlers like double dragon and final fight. I hope it is good, knowing that rockstar has not let us down with there previous games like the grand thief auto franchise for instance.
drunkers @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
the warriors is the best movie of all time, i know every word by heart, been watching it since i was age 12! yes 12 lol and i own 10 copies, 9 of wich rnt open. I even bought a warriors vest (not real) but just as close, off ebay) so even if this game does suck, it can never suck since its the warriors, even if it had atari grafix i still would play it till my fingers bleed, this warriors fan will buy 2 minimum!
thank god the best movie of all time is never forgotten
Bart Moccabee @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I just watched the movie again last week, just because I have not seen it in a while and I wanted to watch it again. So today, while bored at home, I ripped the "Warriors come out to play" sound bite and made it my ring tone on my Nextel. Then ironicly tonight a guy a work sent me this link about the game. Sounds like a great idea. Hope it works and keeps true to the movie.
Good old days @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
This movie is great.I hope that the game is even better.
Lynn @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Tried out the new game--did not have time to figure out how to leave the fight cage after kicking the drunks ass. Anyone get further to help Rembrandt get out of there and move on?
John Letnar @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
The game guys IS KICK ASS. The fighting sequences, the graphics, everything. Believe me, Rockstar did a hell of a job with The Warriors. It even follows the movie, with some extra stuff in the beginning for longer game play. To get out of that cage in the beginning, just last long enough and Cleon will say stop and he will join the gang. Was just wondering if anyone knew where I could find a replica movie vest of the Warriors? I leave with my favorite quote....(which is in the game) "Im gonna shove that bat up your ass and make you look like a popsickle" - Ajax, my favorite warrior.
Cariat @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I got this game and it rocks. Hell, I'm playing it right now. Seriously makes you wanna be a Warrior (or, in my case, one of the free and psychotic BASEBALL FURIES).
Graphics aren't half bad, decent uniqueness between characters, easy gameplay, customizable extra features (including creating your own crew to rumble with), and it matches up with the original story absolutely parallel. It's a perfect "prequel", if you will, and explains a lot to any fan everything they wanted to know about the warriors - from how they were formed from that rat bastard Virgil's Destroyers to the various origins of other members joining up.
Soldier through, muthaf*ckas!! Can you dig it? Can you DIG it? CAN...YOUUUUU...DIG IIIIIIIIIIIIIT?!?!?!?!
Yazzy H @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Does anybody know how to get past the mission "Writer's Block". I've run out of spray paint and can't find anymore. I've looked on every strategy guide website there is... nothing! I don't think anyone's got past it yet. PLEASE HELP!
Yazzy H @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Anybody know how to get past the mission "Writer's Block"? It's driving me mad. I've looked on all the online strategy guides... nothing! I've run out of spray paint and can't find anymore. HELP!
dan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Writer's block is difficult but there is an answer. Tell me where you are and I can't get you by it.
Andy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
The writer's block is difficult to get through, but just make sure that as soon as you go through a paint can, get moving to find the yellow indicator for the next can. I think you need to grab 4 or 5 of them and then you are all set. It goes without saying, but it really helps to spray accurately and not waste the can.
Yasmin H @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Every time I run out of the first can of paint on the first tag and I look everywhere to find new paint and can't find any. The yellow markers are just the tags that you need to do still, aren't they? I found the flash under the trailer but no paint.
Yasmin H @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I also tried buying 6 cans of paint before I started the mission, but you only get one given to you when you start.

I am desperately trying to find a warrior's vest before Christmas, and American Flags is out of stock.. Does anyone know where I could find one...?
