Xbox 360 design right under our noses?

Xbox 360 design

Over on the Team Xbox forums "McNasty04" has made a startling discovery:

"After reading the description of the supposed design of the next xbox. I noticed something when I went to look at something on xbox.com. Something about the design of the site caught my eye. In the article the person talks about how it will be able to stand on its side and is concave in the middle aka "sucking in its cheeks". Could the xbox 360 design have been in front of our faces this whole time? I am just merely brining this up because I found it interesting and thought it might interest a few of you."

Thats been up since at least September 2003. I doubt thats the xbox360 design.

i'm thinkin' that something here has to be round to justify the "360" label. if this were a cross section and the thing were round perpendicular to the monitor than that could work, but that seems kinda strange. i'm betting no.

I really hope it isn't some dumb concave whatever shape. They should just make it black and silver and if it's really going to have wireless controllers, keep the design to a simple box shape so we can finally put it in the case with our other components next to the TV. But I guess that would be asking too much.

That is kinda funny, obiously that pic is how the whole rumor got started in the first place.

That might be it though. Maybe MS just wanted us to get use to the image so that we subconsciously 'accept' it as something familiar to us? I wanna now really how long the xbox site has had that exact design? and that color? Whitesh silver is the color for home electronics these days (like flat panel tv's and tivos).

Ah what the hell, I'm going to believe this one.

Abe, why does a console have to match all the other boring appliances? Even if the 360 design is ugly at least it will be more interesting than these ugly black and silver crates we keep putting in our homes. I'd see something ugly than something boring.

I'm curious about one of the images on the ourcolony.net entrance page.

The silver power button with a massively-blurred console reflected in it. (You may have to hit reload a few times.)

It appears to be silver or white, if I'm not mistaken.

I think he is right, the web site looks just like I would expect a console to look like, and what else would they be looking at to make the web site from?

Makes sense .. probably the same set of designers and graphic artists. They would have had to come up with the design for the hardware a while ago due to manufacturing lead times.

My question is, have they done any kind of survay asking if people like the site or the design of the site? A lot of sites do that. If they have, that might suggest there is more to it.

Not sure that I believe or like it... I've only had five minutes to start playing with this, so excuse the crued editing... just something to think about.

According to J, it's "always on" so I left out a power button (I'm sure it will have one in the end).... Maybe that long black bar at the top is a scrolling OLED for status updates? PVR would be nice...

It might even have one of those little gyroscopic devices to change the orientation of the text on the scrolling OLED screen if you stand it on end...

This design HAS to be related to something. I doubt that Microsoft just had some web designer come up with that design "out of thin air" just because it looked cool. The original Xbox site design was darker, referencing the original Xbox. This new design, which has been around for awhile I'm DURE refers to the new Xbox 360. There are too many similarities in the description thats going around for it not to be!

Prolly related, prolly a similar design and prolly just as ugly if that they case... but I'll consider the purchase

On a side note, anyone else think the market is becoming oversaturated with game consoles this year? Gamecube, PS2, XBox, GBA, DS, PSP, XBox 360, PS3, Nintendo Rev... among the other no-name handhelds... How about an article on that?

I mean, it could be fine, but wouldn't it make more sense to be symetrical or someting?

"360" refers to the first consoles power light. Its assumed that the green "power on" circle will remain on the Xbox 360. I've also seen it referred as the console that will bring the Gaming Industry to "a perfect circle", also a possible refrence to the Greek symbol Omega.(the beginning is the end, and vice versa...)

Xbox 360 is doomed if thats how its gonna look. Now that is rather exaggerated but just thinking about the genius Viao designer behind the PS2 look. If he happens to be making the PS3 design. Again repeating, Xbox360 is doomed if it looks anything seen on this page or M$'s website. Can't wait till official unveiling. Don't flame , only my personal opinion. Carry on with yer lives please.

Maybe its going to be just concave enough in the middle so that it will rest on top of the old Xbox. With the old box's bump in its top I always found it hard to put anything on top of it.

is just some fake thats been floating arround since before microsoft announced the name of the xbox 360.

However, this one strongly seems to fit their description, i'd suggest it is likely real
