The FBI made a bust of folk selling, among other titles, Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., as well as
the
cutting edge classic, Duck Hunt. I love the
way it says the FBI posed as "gaming thieves". A gaming thief? What's that? A burglar who plays D&D in his spare
time?
There's also the fact that the article claims Nintendo are losing millions of dollars each year on piracy of these
titles. Millions a year lost, by someone pirating twenty year old Nintendo titles… How does that work? Did we suddenly
slip into another dimension while I was sleeping? I even checked the date of the article, to make sure it didn't say
April 1st!
Nice to see the feds resources are being allocated sensibly… I know I feel a lot safer knowing these peddlers of
decades old video games are off the street.
FBI bust pirates selling Donkey Kong, Duck Hunt?!

I don't care what law enforcement agency does it, but someone needed to stop the sale of these systems. There is a kiosk in the mall near me that was still selling pirated games as of yesterday. Downloading a ROM for personal use is one thing. Profiting on someone else's work is something else entirely.
Considering how blatant this was, the FBI agents posing as "gaming theives" could simply be a couple of guys that bought a system or two at their local mall. I don't think this "sting" cost a whole lot, and it had to be done.

Nintendo currently markets both Donkey Kong and Mario Bros. for the GBA, so yes, these people are infringing on Nintendo's active copyrights on these items.
It isn't just Nintendo being ripped off. The last time I saw one of these kiosks in a local mall they had packages with well over a hundred games in the unit. Included were the same Mega Man games that Capcom recently packaged together for a very reasonably priced set. Also numerous Konami, Taito, Namco and other titles that are actively sold in the nostalgia market. This isn't abandonware. If these kiosk creeps want to be in the game business let them create their own original products.

I say Nintendo needs to do a "NES 20th Aniversary edition" and re-release all the NES games anyway. They obviously can see that there is a market for it. And I think they should stop nickle and diming people. Think about the Namco TV joystick game thingy. Why doesn't Nintendo just re-release the NES all offical like(It can have the ability to play NES classic games) as well as Super Carts that have like 20 games on them?
As James said. Obviously there's a market for these 20 year old games.

I'm not sure, but I bet these are for the mall kiosk knock-offs ... I can see why Nintendo would not want people selling those, including the fact it's a horrid deal.

Nintendo would never release a NES reissue system or controller with a super mega cart or anything like it. Why should they blow their wad immediately when they can release old games one at a time over the course of years for whatever system they're pimping, for $20 a piece?
It also increases the number of titles available for the system and saves them the trouble of getting more 3-party developers or creating new game worlds and mechanics.

If Baseball Stars, the greatest baseball game in the history of mankind, found its way back to a modern console all would be right in the world.

They need to get into Radica's market and make Play TV versions of their classic games. Either that or at least reissue more of them for GB or DS.
And for the love of God they need to bring back Duck Hunt! Screw PETA!

Well after the hugely successful undercover effort to root out Tommy Chong for selling bongs, it seems like they have focused their attention to other highly complicated operations

Next thing you know the Congress will be wasting time going after steroids in baseball, instead of working on things like poverty, crime, the DEBT! and economy(remember why the USSR finally fell apart?), the environment and global climate change, foreign relations, etc etc.

Seems pretty silly but I guess you never know what Nintendo is up to behind the scenes. They may be releasing a namco style tv game system for old nes games. They are also selling those gba classic nes game carts now...who knows.

Hell, the old NES games was the only reason to play Animal Crossing more than a week. As much as people bitch and moan about abondonware, you'd think one of the dolts who commented above would know that Nintendo does NOT abandon it's old software. They either release it again (like in Animal Crossing, or the NES classic series), or make new products based on them (Mario anyone? Super Smash Bothers? Do these ring a bell?).
