I remember how mad I was that this game was Playstation 2 exclusive. Thank god it stayed like that. Reminds me of the Acclaim games. mmmm, bad memories. remerber the Ninja Turtles game that had that top view??? hard, boring, and no turtles in the screen.

Fari warning: Def Jam is a fun game, until the late levels of the story mode. At which point it becomes nearly impossible to K.O. your opponent. It takes 3 or 4 special moves to K.O. them when they are in "danger" status, yet mysterioulsy , they can K.O. you in just one. Very frustrating.

The only way to K.O. the later opponents is to do a "Blazin'" move, but to do that, you have to grab them. Normally, you can grab opponents all you want, but when you activite the "Blazin" mode, they actually start to move faster and they reverse all of your grab attempts into special moves of their own. Arrrggg.

Worth a rental, but too frustrating for long-term play.

I agree, Def Jam: Fight for New York definitely had a Fight Club feel to it, especially when I personalised my character and removed all of the bling and just had him with spiky hair and a pair of jeans.

Great game, great graphics and not a bad story element to it.

So in Def Jam you were fighting to overcome the wimpification of society bred into all males and reclaim your more primal instincts? I haven't played it, but I always got the impression it was just a typical fighting game, maybe with some dumb gangster-related story tacked on, I never thought it might be insightful like Fight Club (not the game, the book and movie).

#5, you're basically right, but i think what they meant was that def jam very accurately captured a much grittier and "hard core" style of fighting game - which wouldve been better for a title like fight club. very down and dirty.

i have to admit that def jam was one of the best fighters ive played in a long time - smooth refined control, nice special combos, great graphics and a steady learning curve. even if you hate rap, pick it up. great fun.
