One of the best first-person shooters ever made is getting its due. The sequel to Serious Sam (let's call it Serious Sam 2) has been announced by 2K Games, officially making my week.
Playing the first one was like being a kid again. Okay, it was actually like being a pubescent, zitty, angry teen
again, but you'd be surprised at how comfy I am in that role. It combined low brow humor, attitude, too many baddies to
count, and massive levels. Somehow that combo brought us the best shooter since Doom.
You want to read something that warms the heart? Here's a bit from the press release:
"Our second generation Serious Engine allows us to create characters with over 100 times more detail than the last game," added Roman Ribaric, CEO of Croteam Ltd, developers of Serious Sam II. "This has allowed us to create huge, lush environments and even crazier enemies than before, without having to scale back the gameplay in any way. Gamers can rest assured that with the capabilities of our new engine, we're not only going to match the record we set with the first Serious Sam for the most enemies on screen at one time, we're going to surpass it."
In a nutshell, that means they know what made the first game feel so fresh. More enemies, more space to fill and more environments CAN equal more fun, if it's done right.
NOTE: No, that's not a screenshot from the game. But if you see one, let us know!
