That up close picture looks like the left side of the console. It appears to be the side of a unit that is without a hard drive but more of a spacer to maintain the shape and design. The bottom picture looks to be that same part, only with the hard drive attached. Notice the HD LED and the 40GB on the side?

I think it looks a bit grey and bland, kind of like a DVD player just a bit curved. And why is the power button so damn huge? And what's with the one controller port?
We'll have to wait and see..

I read all the comments before me so I am not going to repeat what already been said. The console in my opnion is very very pretty I just don't like the fact that the dvd tray is silver, it should be the same color as the console to make it more uniform in design. the box on the right looks like a button that pops the cover off so you can switch its face. Microsfot looks to be selling different faces for the console one for vertical and one for horizontal. I'm sure there will be colors also and 3rd party designs. the IR port is probably not for the controllers to connect to the system its for a dvd remote most likely. The system probably uses RF frequencies built into the system the little wavy button next to the memory card helps with that cause it looks like a frequency restarter (incase there is a cross in frequencies in controllers or one is not responding). If the controllers are rechargeable the batteries probably go in the back of the console to recharge. Finally The real need for the Memory cards in nothing people have been saying yet. Rememeber the Hard drive is optional, Microsoft is giving us all the flexability we want in a console. The memory cards are possibly cheaper than any others ever available and are much larger possibly 100mb. They may stream data to games like Halo does for hard drives but for true media junkies they can fit all there music, dvr files, and online downloads through xbox live on the hard drive. The memory cards even though carry less information can function in the same manner. Problem is the hard drive probably cost the same as about 4 memory cards but gives you thousands times more memory. For those that just play games they might just want a memory card but for those that want all features they get hard drives. the fact that portability is not a factor cause you can just take your Hard drive to your friends house without any problem just pop it off and go.

Very good post, 2play. Your conjectures seem reasonable to me. And your comments struck a balance between fanboy and anti-fanboy. Hopefully we'll know a lot more by the 10:00pm EDT on the 12th of May.

Jon Ypu're a stupid little fanboy. Nintendo is making the most money on the systems and worldwide has sold as much as XBOX While M$ loses oney . Sony losing the lead!? I don't think so. For next gen systems things will be different. If M$ loses money like it did with the Xbox (which it did) The death tolls and are ringing for M$ which is already happening. Im not a fanboy and I think the XBOX is a great system still. I'm just stating some facts. Nintendo's my fave and i'm betting on them with the Revolution. Next time check your facts

think that'll take out pc gaming, jon?

pc gaming will always be there since its always on the cutting edge. most new computer technologies are introduced for pc gaming! everything in the proposed xbox 360 can already be done with a pc. xbox is like gaming for dummies, its dumbed-down hardware. It has a p3 under the hood for gods sake and it can only run at crappy resolution thanks to your tv, 1600x1200 goodness it isnt. And if you think you have better control with a controller than with a keyboard and mouse, you need to give pc gaming a chance. I never touch my consoles again (including the xbox) since i got into pc gaming. its not for everyone, but its the best.

After a day to let this picture sink through I realised where does the camera fit in all of this? Microsoft said there would be a camera how would it be connected? wirelessly also? It might get plugged in from the back, but, hmm Makes me wonder...Oh it might be plugged into one of the memory slots that might make some sense.... Who knows? it was just a thought.

For all those that are like PC Gaming is dead and the people responding with unreasonable answers give me a break, everyone knows that PC Gaming is not going to die. PC gaming has as much in common as Cellphone gamming has with console systems. They have no competition with each other. All 3 forms of gaming; portable, set top, and computer based, have a place in this society. Each has there own set of unrealistic supporters as well as there own set of anger venting protesters. In reality I have never seen a person who owns a high powered PC ever say they are not playing consoles and never seen a console suppoerter say they swear off PC Gaming. Usually you can afford one or the other, and for the lucky individuals that can afford both more power to you. Historically PC games are always ahead of console games but console games sell more. As for Controllers comparing to keyboards, that is all a matter of taste, I personally favor controllers because it just feels right to me. I have tried Keyboard and mouse gaming but unfortunatly I felt sort of lost. It is playable but its just not as cofortable to me, even though technically a mouse is more accurate than a thumbstick but I would take freedom over percision anytime.

Though, from the first picture it looked a lot like a remote control to me(Took me a little while to figure out how to look at it with the other two pics).
But I do have the sudden urge to hit the eject button.

All this Blah Blah about how the console looks. if you are going to buy the xbox 360 just because of a name or a console design then you are very dumb indeed. as long as the damn thing doesnt look like a toaster or a microwave you shouldnt really have anything to say. besides you can bitch all you want but they are not going to change the look of the console just because you are bitchin about it. from the looks of it, its probably finalized so just suck it up and buy it if you are going to buy it and dont buy it if you are not going to buy it.

I would just like to say that I do agree with Hydro. Microsoft pretty much already has my money, but with that said, with all this talk of next generation, home entertainment systems, why can't they make these systems look more like DVD/CD player's? Something that looks good with my home theatre system? Something that doesn't stick out like a sore thumb on my entertainment system?

That thing better not be the final design. I mean it may look pretty slick, but i think Microsoft could do better. Another thing, how big is it? I mean, the original Xbox was HUGE!!! Sony at least thought to make a msaller ps2, and the Gamecube was tiny! I hope this is smaller than the first one, i could barely lift that thing a centimetre fomr the gorund!

hmm i dont think that the bottom one is really the 360 because the top wouldnt be so plain like that... unless its like a proto or something... hmm... very intresting photos though. Ourcolony.net has a new photo of i tihnk part of the new symbol for the xbox... its kinda plain too... maybe microsoft is going for a more plain look? copying ps2's exact footsteps in the last "console war"...hmmm...hmmm.... intresting.

Ok, WTF??
Does anybody have the intelligence of modifying their own XBOX to be better than the original and potentially the new 360? If this is just a modifyed theme of what the original Xbox is, I'm sadly disappointed. Wireless this and that, separate hard drive, sounds more like a money making magnet than anything else. Personally I'd rather modify my original Xbox with a bigger hard drive (SATA 120GB 7200), faster processor (P3 1.2GHz 133FSB 256K), up the memory to 128MB, and configure it to accept a new bios. It will run faster, play better, do more, and I simply don't see the new Xbox to be any better than the old so far. Does anyone know what kinds of specifications there are for the new Xbox, and if so, would it be cheaper to modify the old one instead?

Boring, unimaginative and ultimately shallow and short sighted. I believe that for a console to be a step-forward, someone needs to somehow re-think/re-invent the basics of control and user input - an area of game mechanics that is sorely overlooked. Nintendo is the only innovator in this respect with the introduction of shoulder buttons, vibrating controllers and the analogue stick. Others obviously followed suit. Rumor has it that the 'Revolution' is to have some form of 'smart touch-pad'. The next development has to be blindingly obvious, just overlooked.
The customisation of the power light is stupid and pointless as well as a pathetic attempt at promoting a form of "personalisation". It doesn't enhance the gameplay experience or anything important for that matter. Did someone actually think this idea would be "cool"?

The console itself doesn't look too bad, although aesthetically, I think the ") (" shape is a mistake. I'd square it off if I were in-charge. The new 'silvery' logo looks disgusting however... It looks like the mouth of a creature best suited to the Resident Evil series.

Unfortunately, this will just be "another console" in my opinion. It does nothing that people can't imagine being possible and does nothing innovative. Infact, it is purely generic and exactly what any average-Joe would envisage as "the next thing".
Microsoft will still manage to pawn it off though by flashing high specifications in consumers faces.

Poor effort.

Personaly i do not own an xbox. I own a playstation
two.I am a die hard SONY fan but i cant help my self but say that the new
x box looks good with wireless controllers and all. however we
havent seen what sony is bringing yet. We all know that SONY has a
reputationg when it comes to designing electrical aplianced.THey are so
inovative some times it hurts(complement). Look at what they did to they ps2
by sliming it.As if that was not enough they just released the siliver
ps2 in europe.I also have the feeling that the PS3 will be desighned in
such a way that it would be slimed sometime in the future as they did
to the PS2. They xbox 2 desighn that has been leaked if slimmed will not
look attractive.Bact to my first point i feel the desighn is good.

Marc (68), it'd be imposible to modify your Xbox into an Xbox 360. Just look at the specs:
- IMB PowerPC based CPU with three cores at 3.2 Ghz apiece
- 500Mhz ATI graphics processor with 10MB DRAM
- Detachable, upgradeable 20GB hard drives
- Three USB 2.0 ports
- Built-in 802.11a, b, and g Wi-Fi
- All games support16:9 widescreen, 720p and 1080i resolution (and standard definition output)

You'll be able to have a 120 GB HD (hopefully, anyway) along with monster processors and all that other cool stuff. This thing is a lot more than just a slimmed down Xbox.

So it is in fact the real deal. Now of course MS knew not everybody would not like the disign. And Im sure not all of you liked the original xboxs design either, But looks grow on people and Im sure that once it ships and is sitting in your room you will like it more. I personally love the design. And I dont even care if sony produces a console that is superior hardware wise. I go for the games and innovation. Microsoft has only been one step ahead by taking it to an unprecedented new level every time and they have. And if sony does beat microsoft, it wont be by much. The hardware will either be the same or damb close. And in the console world you wont notice a difference. Belive me, I used to dream of a ps2. But when I got an xbox, I found out that MS had more innovation. And in the changing times you dont want brute force, You want innovation. Xbox 360 will prove to be the superior system. And it has the companies to back it up.

I think this machine looks gorjus and nothing will even be able to attemt to make something better and trust me MS are not dumb they do not want 2 be awkward nd make u buy batteries for the controllers they will be rechargeable nicad batteries and even better u will have to charge them in that little opening on the right hand side.

also it will play Xbox games.

the opening on the front has usb sybals on it therefore this is where u plug in your mp3 players and cameras etc.

also there is an IR reciever on the front meening the console will come with th movie playback remaote.

NO FURTHER COMMENTS NEEDED THIS IS CLEARLY A AMAZING PIECE OF EQUIPMENT!!!!!

Wireless controllers are great but they hog batterys like anything i have ever seen. I have a wireless mous and keyboard for my G5 mac and man do they soak up that juice! a controller would have the same effect but moreso. I dont really care about wireless controlls as i have no problem with 4 standard ones with my Xbox. anyone who wnts more images should go to the offical www.xbox360.com.

this is gonna be sweet.

everyone you must go on www.xbox360.com when it has loaded down in the bottom right hand corner there are links to see both the controller and the console.you can rotate them therefore bieng able to look at it from all angles.
i have found out the controllers are re-chargable ie:look at the bottom of the controller and you will see a input point.
also i have discovered that the possible "1 controller port" is actually a ir reciever.
furthermore there is no internet connection input.
again there are three 2.0 usb connections on the front under the flap.
Also the xbox 360 comes standard with a 20gb hard drive it is not optional however it is optional wheather you have a 20gb,40gb or a 120gb!!!!

The above is no lie. It is all facts.
