Tipster Mikey sent us this shot from Mendelini.com that shows an Xbox stacked perfectly with an Xbox 360. So that's how they plan to make the Xbox backward compatible. We can't top the photo caption, so we'll let it stand on its own. Click "read more" for the full-resolution version of the image.

Look at the width of the DVD slots. If that Xbox2 image is accurate (probably not?), then it's quite a bit thinner than what's represented.

What morons! Who the heck wants to stack those ugly things up and clutter up their living room? It just goes to show that money can't buy everything. No matter how much money they throw at this thing they still lack the design skills to come up with something like Sony or Apple can easily.

It's going to be hilarious when we all find out this is a fake and the real 360 is an elegantly designed trendsetter that will make ripples in the ripoff market. Or not. Either way, it's still about the games, stupid.

Heh. Wouldn't surprise me. It's very obvious that console manufacturers produce their consoles with a very clear intention in mind - they will not play well with one another in a home theater setup. How are you going to stack a Gamecube, Xbox, and PS2 in any setup? Easy, you're not. The PS2 might play nice with other home theater components as long as it's on top, but not in any other configuration. Everything else you have in your home theater was designed with the thought in mind that you're going to have other components.
Not videogame systems, though. Oh no. They want you to have their system sitting all alone under your TV. And they'll make it as inconvenient as possible for you to do anything else. The move to wireless controllers is the same thing. Do they try to move to 5.8GHz where there is more room? Oh no, they try to shoulder out other devices in the 2.4GHz spectrum. Have a wireless doorbell running on channel 1, a wireless network on channel 6 and your PSP trying to work on channel 11? Something has to go if you want to use your Xbox360. Have wireless controllers for your legacy systems in another room of your house? You better pray they work well with crosstalk on one of the marginal "not really their own" channels in-between.
Making an Xbox360 sit nicely on top of the original Xbox (when, clearly, nothing else will) would be the ultimate case of them sticking their dick in your face, waggling it back and forth and saying "see, we really didn't have to make it bulged out so you can't stack anything else on it, we did it JUST to be a pain in the ass to YOU, our customer. Guess who's really wearing the pants here, spanky."

What's it doing? It's like it's trying to jump over the old xbox, but it's not quite making it.

For those who failed to note the obvious, this is a joke. The original XBox doesn't have a convex top.

The system will be awesome! The amount of features it has is unbelievable! Though, on the new xbox360.com site and everything, they still do not mention anything about backward compatibility! Thats the main information that us gamers need to know. I need to know!

Slashdot had an article about an official announcement of backwards compatibility for Xbox with older games:

I'm excited. This was probably the factor that decided whether I would pick it up at release time or a couple years later. :)

By the way, whoever was so concerned about the wireless xbox 360 controllers, They will not be 2.4 or 5.8 GHz. They will be running over bluetooth allowing the use of voice headsets over the wireless controller. These wireless controllers should be awesome!

This is great... I love xbox.... has anyone compared the processing power of PS3 and the 360... 360 boasts 1 TFLOPS and seems to have 500MB of RAM... but the PS3 has 2 TFLOPS and seemingly faster RAM, 7 Wireless controllers and already announced BACKWARD COMPATABILITY, plus the ability to use TWO TV's or your PSP as both an extra screen and controller... I am worried that XBOX's system isn't the monster expected and only MICROSOFTS EXCELLENT LIVE FUNCTIONS MAY KEEP IT AFLOAT
