What do you do when you have a wonderfully
original and unique game, in an era of cookie cutter clones? Why, beat the concept to death and do a sequel, thus
killing the unique idea, by making it no longer unique. Okay, so perhaps I need to stop having three heaping spoonfuls
of cynicism on my cornflakes every morning.
Katamari Damacy is the most original game since… That's where you have to stop and think. What was the last truly
unique concept in gaming? Dune II? Tetris? Regardless, it's been a while, and despite my overwhelming cynicism above,
the fact is I can't wait to get my mitts on the Katamari sequel. The weakest area of the original, I feel, was its
multiplayer. Fun, but it could have been so much more. In the sequel, it will be.
Can't wait! It'll be a break from getting my head kicked on Tekken 5.
