Burnout Legends - PSP gets crash-happy!
EA hinted at a Burnout title for the PSP last June, and today, that title was officially revealed. Burnout Legends will come crashing onto the PSP this September. The game promises to bring updated versions of choice cuts from all three Burnout titles to date. Legends will support wireless multiplayer and a GameShare demo that will allow multiple PSPs to play a stripped down version with only one copy of the game.
Burnout Legends is definitely a strong entry into the PSP library. EA will probably reveal a lot more details at E3. We'll keep you posted.

I, for one am really looking forward to this. Having come to Burnout rather late in the game (with Takedown), I've found it's the sort of quick fix game needed for those who are bored with the current slew of FPS games, and not quite taken with racing games. Just the sort of thing I need to wake me up on my 45 min London bus commute in the morning.

I bought a PSP just for this game. True, stuff like Hot Shots, Lumines, Madden and GTA are/will be awesome as well, but Burnout-on-the-go made me get a PSP more than any other title. I can't wait.
Codejoy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
ARRGG finally I want a psp now hmph.

I'm a big fan of the Burnout series, and have really enjoyed previous installments. Several months ago, Criterion mentioned that they were in the process of porting the Burnout 3 engine to the PSP; I have to admit that helped to persuade me in my decision to buy the PSP.
At last, we have an official announcement of the PSP game, along with some interesting details. I'm looking forward to trying some of the Burnout 1 & 2 tracks on an engine containing the gameplay refinements of Burnout 3. The inclusion of Game Share means we can get some fellow PSP owners (who aren't familiar with this fun racing series) to join in on the action as well.
1UP has a very good preview of Burnout Legends up, including some tempting screens.
Criterion is an extremely talented developer, and PSP is an extremely powerful system--I'm confident this will be one of the best handheld video games of the year!

Now I need mony, theres Death, Burn, Dub, GTA, Coded, and the list goes on. I've never played burnout but if it gets good reveiws I'll pick it up.

This is the game that could make me go out and finally get a PSP. Too bad EA is publishing the game though... they really screwed-up the Burnout Series, which really took a dump after Burnout 2.
Why did they feel the need to bloat Burnout with so much useless gimmicky junk? Burnout 2 > Burnout 3. When will EA learn that we don't WANT all this over produced JUNK?
pspimp @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I hope this is true Burnout 3 TD was one of my favorite games of last year. It would be hella cool on the psp.
woohoo!
Tony @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
After the rave reviews Burnout 3 got, I can hardly see how you can say EA killed Burnout. I'm waiting on this one, and I'm thrilled at all the "killer app" comments it's getting.
Zeo @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Yay, another 50 dollar PS2 port.
Tony @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
A port is when a console game appears on the PC as is.
A port is when Mario 64 is moved to the DS.
A new game in an established franchise are what most of the PSP games are.
Doug Kaplan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Nice call Zeo...add it to the port column for the PSP with another name and possibly one more feature added.
Also, why the complete lack of Burnout love for the GameCube? I was hoping that with the move from Acclaim to EA for this franchise that it might go completely multi-platform since thats a big part of EA's philosophy but no luck I guess.
Agent X @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
To #9 & #11: Why don't you read up on some previews of the game before you rush to the keyboard to spread your misinformation?
In an effort to relieve you of any attempt to plead ignorance on this subject in the future, I invite you to read this preview:
http://psp.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3140088&did=18
As you can plainly see, there are several new modes of play that are exclusive to this PSP game. Even though it is approaching PS2-level quality, this is a new game in its own right.
Doug Kaplan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
To Agent X:
I've read previews and all new options added are basically there because this is a best of the Burnout series so its basically a port of all 3 Burnouts so far along with modes that allow for play between older and newer versions of the series.
Agent X @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Hold on a moment there.
First, you claimed this is a mere port "with another name and possibly one more feature added."
Now, you've changed your story to say that this is "basically a port of all 3 Burnouts"? Really? ALL THREE OF THEM? So what you're trying to tell us is that for fifty clams, someone could get ALL THREE BURNOUT GAMES IN THEIR ENTIRETY, on a handheld, with additional options and modes on top of it all?
If so, then that's even better news than we previously thought! Thanks for the scoop!
David K @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Agent X, your brilliance amazes me. Kudos to you. ;)
Burnout 3 was a brilliant game, and I personally wouldn't mind to buy a complete port for PSP. Of course, they added bunch of stuff from 1 & 2, added new modes, and put in incentives to play via wi-fi including "game sharing" feature. Calling that a port just wouldn't do justice for the new game.
What would I ask Criterion & EA though, is a wider variety in the background music. All these rock stuff from EA Tracks are great, but it would be cool if they threw some techno and hip-hop tracks in it - sort of like what EA did with NFSU.
SetupWeasel @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Super Mario 64 DS is a port even though it allows you to play different modes, has different characters with different abilities, and has a bunch of additional content (more stars, more than 2 dozen minigames).
The Burnout game isn't a port even though it only has some additional content and different modes.
Best argument EVER!
SetupWeasel @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Sing to "Another One Bites the Dust by Queen:
Port, Port, Port
The PSP gets a port.
P-P-Port, Port, Port.
The PSP gets a port.
And another dumb port, and another dumb port.
The PSP gets a port.
Hey, it costs you 50 too.
The PSP gets a port!
