Play Xbox 360 Launch Lingo Bingo (Official Rules)
As noted earlier today, the Joystiq crew will be liveblogging
the Xbox 360 infomercial to be broadcast on MTV this
evening, without the aid of any timeshifting devices! Yup, you heard us right. We're headed into the maelstrom
wholly unprotected from the commercial onslaught, and we do it for you, dear readers.
It's important to remember the context of this event: traditionally, console announcements are made at E3. Microsoft has chosen to break with tradition to get a leg-up on the competition and to own the gamer buzz for a few days prior to the big E3 announcements.
Microsoft (and Sony, and Nintendo) also want to broaden the gamer market. In order to do that, they'll need to change the "games are for geeks" stereotype by taking the product to the place where they print cool like it's an inflationary South American currency: MTV. If Microsoft can successfully associate the Xbox 360 with cool then they might succeed in getting their console into more homes.
Without further ado, time for some Xbox Launch Lingo Bingo. Here's how to play:
-
Print out one of the four bingo cards, but only one! No cheating! We’ve used special digital copy protection technology to discern whether you’ve attempted to activate more than one copy of the Xbox Lingo Bingo cards. If you do attempt this, you’ll need to call our Redmond, WA offices to obtain a new product key before you can continue to play Bingo. Choose a card here: CARD 1, CARD 2, CARD 3, CARD 4.
-
Print out the lingo list.
-
Obtain liquid fortifications of the fermented variety if you are of age, and of the cough syrup variety if you’re not.
-
Watch the Xbox infomercial tonight. It’s called “MTV Presents: The Next Generation Xbox Revealed” and it will be hosted by “entertainment icon, seasoned gamer and Xbox fanatic” Elijah Wood tonight at 9:30pm EDT.
-
Every time you cross out a square on your card, drink. If you cross out five consecutive squares (vertical, horizontal or diagonal), stand up and yell, “BINGO.”
-
Post a photo of your completed card with your smiling mug next to it and we’ll crown you champion of Xbox Launch Lingo Bingo.
-
Rake in the fat product endorsement contracts that come with your newfound fame.

Hahhaha, funny as hell.
You're, however, missing all kinds of rad, kewl, MTV Generation, eXtreme, boarder, way cool, shizzle-faw-da-nizzle words from the lingo list.
Oh, and you should give double points for mentioning any current music artist/group in a sentence talking about the new XBox.

Lol I am going to do this just for the hell of it with some friends tomorrow night during the encore on CTV (canadian).

Some of these words will have people passing out from intoxication before the first commercial break.

Super-fantastic-idear...but actually, it's airing in Canada on CTV at 12:30 a.m. EST, Friday. Which is to say late-night tonight!

Much respect to the author of the initial article, esp. for the line about the inflationary tactics of South America's fragile economies.
You managed to delight me by insulting both MTV and (one assumes) Argentina. I like how, by creating the conceit in the first place, you've also called into question the legitimacy of MTV's creation of "cool" as well -- as though it's both irresponsible and illicit to allow MTV to continue thinking of itself as an arbiter of taste.

If Microsoft is claiming that the Xbox 360 is the beginning of the "HD Era", then why are they introducing it on a cable channel that doesn't broadcast in HD?
Man @ Dec 18th 2005 9:06PM
Great drunk have, have to wake up early tomorrow and I didn't even win the bingo game!
