The video we WANTED to see about the Xbox 360

For us hardcore/diehard/professional gamers, the MTV show was a disappointment. But it wasn't made for us. It was
made for the mainstream, whoever they are (I just know they watch MTV). If you want to see a video that speaks to us,
check this one out. We linked to it in the body of the live event post, but it deserves its own place on Joystiq.
Yes, it's marketing-speak. Yes, it's got J Allard telling us how they "goosed it, tweaked it, spun it and fabricated
it." (The man is a genius. I'm serious. Only he can pull this stuff off.) But, the bottom line is this video is
well-done, informative and presented to the smart ones (uh, that's you and I, in this particular case). You get to hear
the designers and engineers and developers go nuts on the potential of the console.
I have to say, my first impressions of the Xbox 360 and its offerings is favorable. At this point, I'm trying to take
all the data in — separate out the gold from the fool's gold. Let's sleep on it.
The clip is getting hit hard. Anyone know of a mirror?

Ok Xbox 360 gotta have it..but Im only gonna buy it just to sell it the next day for triple lol...come on guys..we want games that look real..not somewhat real..we dont wanna see fmv's..just gameplay.! I'll drop $400 or so on this but no more. Hell with live and media center just give us more realistic looking games..thats all we ask game Gods!

Damn the MTV thing was a big disappointment but man this video is making me scream. I'm happy as hell, I am saving for this mother right now. I have to get it, this is the first time I have ever been giddy...literally GIDDY with joy. I could never imagine this system to be as cool as it turned out. I had some low hopes when the system controller was revealed and now I want to touch it.I'm not going to sleep tonight. I am too excited.
Aussie @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM

As far as mirrors go, if you click the globe on the front page of ourcolony, it'll give you a download link to the movie. It's their product, let them take on the bandwidth.

The MTV preview was uninformative and simply a waste of time. After watching it I was 100% against buying the Xbox 360.
This clip answered so many questions and after watching it I am completely for buying the Xbox 360.
The bottom line? MTV sucks.
Dave @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I still haven't heard anything on backward compatability. Anyone?
Redune @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Just go to http://www.ourcolony.net/ and click on high to download the video.
Nice and quick.
Awesome video by the way!
Patrick @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Awesome....Sony and nintendo better have something.
Dralt @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Let me repeat it: According to these specs, Microsoft is going to let you buy $4000 worth of hardware for $400.
Truly amazing.
I have no idea how they will manage to recover all that money. Even if they sell tons of games.
Digi Smalls @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
anyone mourn the loss of backward compatibility? isnt it official now?
Patrick @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
haha...you just don't get retail vesus accually making it yourself...Microsoft "owns the silicon" as they said. Also, I heard the figure to be possibly $360 for the premium $300 for reg. Microsoft will be making a nice profit on this one, don't worry.
Patrick @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
If you watch that video, Fable is on the Xbox 360, so backward is very possible
Nyantacrusher @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Yeah...PowerPC...can't wait until people start installing OS X on their Xbox2's.....that's gonna drive Microsnorf more crazy insane than linux.....
Sergio @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Everyone noticed that J said they went after the best processor that would be available in 2005? So if IBM is making chips for the other two consoles, but for 2006...

They're playing Halo 2 and showing Master Chief in a video about the 360. They're either blatantly telling us it's in and just trying to hold on and scare Sony, or J.Allard would be behind the worst advertising scheme ever throwing this out (Here's Halo, but it's not really on the 360!). If 360 isn't backwards compatible, I'll be the first in the mob after this vid.
noK @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
that's Fable 2 (Patrick), as for the Halo, who knows, it could be Halo 2 HD or Halo 2.5 Dir. Cut or Halo 3 with a throwback map on; however, I do know Xbox 360 can't be backwards compatible from the specs released and the info. on ourcolony's clip
vakerorokero @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Man, I just got an XBOX last week, and Microsoft just came up with a new one.
So, finally, what's the 360 for? what does it mean? just was a simple name?? you gotta be kidding....hyped.
noK @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
correction: that's Halo 2 in HD
Scott @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
in my opinion this video should have been shown on the mtv brodcast. possibly in place of a comercial break, its an important convincing way to look at the xbox360, and it got me interested in buying one already just for the tech involved in it.
Thok @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
They called it 360 so there would be a 3 in it. If a totally braindead consumer saw Xbox 2 and PS3 on the shelf, they'd buy the PS3 because it sounds like it must be better
By calling it 360 they eliminate that moronic thought.
blurrie @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
like he said the 360 compete's w/ the 3 in the ps3 . also it does a number with the the "nintendo revolution" which is a 360 turn about. one 360 turn is a revolution. get it? clever clever!
11010010 @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
well, to be true.. i think this video is pretty cheesy. all this "my gamerx nick" crap.. microsoft is trying to seem more cool.. well people drool maybe now, but let's see what sony and big n have to offer.
and yes, microsoft will make money, lots of it. not by selling the hardware but with all that xbox-live-stuff.. you'll pay per view/click/month/whatsoever.. and you won't pay only once..
have fun

Phrank @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
So, where's the news on the Revolution? You know, the wireless controllers, a "very, very sleek" design, confirmed backwards compatibility, DVD playback...
It's an official Nintendo announcement.
Xalen @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
The Unit itself and its capabilities are fucking incredible, however the games shown off so far are neither impressive or properly show off the 360's potential
Mazza @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Even so, you'd have thought they would make a big thing about it being able to play legacy XBox games if it could...
Bit of a downer, but that's life.
Chris Norman @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Forget the year of HD. This is the year of the gaming community.
I've got to say that I'm impressed with the initial specs of the X-box, and even more excited because this should set the bar for the other two consoles. But I'm still worried about the game lineup - either scale back on the number of FPS and 3rd person shooters, or for chrissakes, do something original with them!
What I'm most impressed by is the integration with their Live service and building a community around games. Wireless broadband and online gaming are finally coming down to a price point where they are accessible to the masses, and acceptance will be spurred by the fact that all of the major next-gen consoles will feature networked play out of the box, rather than as an add-on adapter (PSP and DS leading the charge).
Of course, you'll have to give it at least a generation ebfore it becomes widely adopted - right now Live caters to a niche hardcore audience, and not every game can easily be made multiplayer (though I would go at the console like a rabid dog if more games had networked co-op rather than deathmatches).
Microsoft has built a great console for gamers, and has been very responsive to their audience this generation (though I still think they have a long way to go before they design an aesthetically-appealing piece of hardware). But at their currently-predicted price point and ith their existing game line-up, they will have a very hard time selling the console to non-gamers.
dave @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
the thing that will prob. keep me from buying is that it sounds like you will never.....never stop paying after you buy one. that just sucks

Hey have any of you guys noticed that the Xbox360 has wired and wireless controllers? When you look at the system you can easily see there is no place for 4 controllers to be plugged in if someone perfers wired controllers.
tpp @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Right on Mr. Norman!
I just wish Microsoft would see it that way, too.
Halo 2 is the only XBL game that truly supports communities with its XBL features. They were hyping Forza Motorsports for its multiplayer capabilities for months, and they delivered a complete dud, as far as the XBL features go.
I'm part of an online community for adult gamers called Seasoned Gamers [1] (no, Elijah Wood is NOT a member). The online gaming experience is much, much better with likeminded individuals without griefers and other subhumans. Microsoft, however, has done very little to encourage the formation of such communities and nothing to embrace them.
Friends and clan lists are limited to only 100 people and can't be categorised. Bungie has done some good things at bungie.net, but there's still plenty to do.
jack @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
save for the cool specs and features (i like the design of the box a lot), why do i always feel like i've been injected with demerol every time i listen to corporate twits trying to sound cool and 'normal joes', just hire actors at this point, nobody can forget you're a geek with poor social skills and living in a basement with 12 computers

That MTV thing was a waste of time. I feel dumber for having watched it. Already knew all the information they released, had to sit through a crappy band, and then there was that gawdawful "Hey kids, serving your country is wrong!" indoctrination commercial.
11010010 @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
well, the design. the guy said it is like breathing in .. well for me it looks like the box is bigger than its content ;-) .. i don't like it, but maybe it is just not my style..

unfortunately i feel like they're promising a lot more than they can deliver
im rooting for the making good on promises
who knows, maybe ill go back to console gaming
