Nintendo Revolution clip makes the rounds. But is it real?
Tips are a-flying! You guys sure are letting us know about this Nintendo Revolution clip that's been "leaked." It's not likely to be real, but it's fun to watch. Proximity radar, 3D glasses, holograms, 4-speaker surround sound headset — the sheer revolution of it all! The design is unlikely, the Mario clip at the end is kind of crappy looking, and the idea of a console that looks like a helmet is a little too cutting-edge. Worth a look, though.
NOTE: The "Read" link will open a clip.

pretty damn intense if you ask me!
XBOX 360 just got a little less appealin. WoW
Jason @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
ok, How cares if its fake. Thats one hell of a presentation of a fake! With the info we have on the NR (Nintindo Revolution) its taller than 3 CD cases and only can sit on one side. But man wouldnt it be cool for a system?
Shannon @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Just so you all know it's not probably fake, it definitely is.

Patrick @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I have a feeling it might be very real. I mean nintendo said it's a technology already out there and VR is. Not to mention how good the video looks. I might have to say this is very possibly an E3 vid that got out. Either that or someone spent an enormous amount of time making this just to try and stir up things.
Patrick @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Well, maybe not, but how does ign know?
matt @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I can't see this thing selling instead of the 360. They need to give people what they want, which (as microsoft figured out) is good online gaming and a solid, powerful console, not this weird crap. Its to big of a leap, and not many people will make it. I, as a Nintendo fan, hope this isn't the truth. If it is, I'm buying a 360, and I think Nintendo may be finished in terms of consoles. I don't think that it is real anyways though.
Addison @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Ummm... cool idea, would not sell... Video is too strungout after the timeline thing...the video is definently fake.
anony @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
thus far i've not been very impressed with the vids from xbox 360 save for the racing sims and such.
too bad this revolution vid is fake, but it proposes an awesome concept: more than ever before, BEING the charachter, BEING in the game. maybe widen the field of vision to include peripheral.
well, nice vid, anyway.
matt @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I hope to God IGN is right.
Addison @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I think there could be some sort of visor/mic hybrid that enhances gameplay, but that is waaaayyyy to unconventional for casual and hardcore gamers to buy. Besides, Nintendo already said the revolution would be about the size of three dvds earlier today (may 13). We will hopefully find out @ E3!
Shannon @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Matt is not an editor I would expect to lie for Nintendo, if he wasn't sure he wouldn't have said for sure "No". He takes a lot of flack for being honest about his opinions in his articles and in the mailbag. I would assume he already saw something of the Revolution or emailed Nintendo asking and they gave him a definitive no. I doubt Nintendo would lie to the press.
Everman @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
The pic doesn't make it clear, but there is a visor that just docks to that helmet looking thing. The visor interfaces with the main unit. Looks awsome, but totally not the Revolution.
Addison @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
What are you talking about shannon?
Shannon @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
What did I say that confused you Addison? I was replying to Patrick who asked how IGN would know.
Addison @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
did ign have a story on this... if so could you give me a link?
Shannon @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Addison I already posted it, the 3rd reply down.
funkonaut @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Hilarious!
Someone needs to get out more. How long did it take them to make that video?!
Allen @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
The video I liked -- and it was brilliantly done (though I didn't quite 'get' the extended fractal castle footage). That said, I don't much care for the look of that system, the headset reliance and really fail to see how --that-- would be effectively backwards compatible. Finally, I hate the idea of running into a wall just as I'm about to put the finishing touches on a space pirate.
. . . it is more impressive than the official face plates for the Xbox 360, though. Hands down.
JDH @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
That video is very convincing.
Some group wants gamers to think this is real. They went to a lot of pains to do a good job.
If this is true, I can't wait to see it.
One part of the video I liked was the "brain" being able to communicate with the GameCube and DS. The visor has been done, but I'm sure it could be done right with the right technology.
Man, I'm lovin' the console battle thus far. This in itself is entertaining!
wesleyc@cox.net @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
anyone recognize the music that runs throughout this vid? i love it. thanks
SetupWeasel @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Who cares if it is fake? Nintendo needs to hire these people. That is an awesome logo, and I loved the screen transitions.
There were a few confusing parts, but they managed to get me to want a fake product that would never sell. Imagine what they could do for the real thing.
Ryuukuro @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
This is the most brilliantly beautiful fake demo video ever made. Whoever did this, if they aren't already at some major video post house, should be put into the best one and given top salary.
Andrew @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
This is the greatest fake video I've ever seen. It actually excited and impressed me. Nintendo SHOULD hire these people.
norebonomis @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
it's not fake. someone downloaded it from the future. 0_o
Nicholas @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
'craptastic',
I can't believe people are dissing this thing. Give me a break, that was one sweet as hell looking system. It had a proximity radar. WTF?!? How could a system with a proximity radar not sell. I'd buy two one for myself and another to put on my pup, Fido.
'waaaayyyy to unconventional for casual and hardcore gamers'
Huh? It had a proximity radar. My dad bought the original Nintendo just because you could play Zelda and drop bombs on walls with cracks. My great aunt on my mother's side would buy a game system if it had a proximity radar plus a mic.
Anyway, I'm going to smoke a little more crack before bed. Peace out.
Dean Shan @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Wow that is very impressive. That's a lot of work to put into fan film. If only we had that kind of technology.
weaszel @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
These people aren't doing anything new or revolutionary... This thing has been out forever. It's called the acid trip.
Impressive video, though.
Joey Geraci @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
It has already been proven that this was a talented nintendo fanboy with way too much time on his hands, and although it is pretty well done, technically, it kinda shows the nintendo mindset, or at least the mindset of its fans, and how far away they are from the mainstream or even most hardcore gamers. The fact that they would think that this would appeal to gamers beyond the gee-whiz factor is pretty sad.
Well done though.
Nookers @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
This device would make this VR system the ultimate gaming system. Its called CirculaFloor. http://intron.kz.tsukuba.ac.jp/vrlab_web/CirculaFloor/CirculaFloor_e.htm
Eric @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Yes give the video maker a job somewhere cause that was kick ass. I'm thinking the millions of castles had something to do with online multiplayer (that would take care of the name in a way too).
BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY would be friggin easy....put a controller port (or just use the wireless used for the headset and use a wavebird) and you are set. You don't have to play Gamecube games like revolution games, can't everyone get off that sort of topic?
If this sort of thing came out, how could a hardcore gamer NOT like it?! Its a dream! It brings you into the game! THATS HARDCORE!
Customization is really cool in this too. And rememeber that former Nintendo employee saying he can't reveal the revolutionary aspect of it, even though he mentions nearly everything. And how Square-Enix's president said that its not a console and not a portable, its a completely new platform (IGN said he was referring to networking(many times over), but does that make any sense>?) And it shows monitor and TV support, and uses Nintendo-style marketing language too! All the simple english in it make eric happy. Eric like simple.
The making and playing games would be a complete revolution. No idea what it means but the sheer craziness of that statement makes me either say "holy crap!" or "holy crap?" The graphics are right on par with next-gen style stuff too.
Let's not bash it so quickly, remember IGN is practically sleeping with Nintendo, and even if it is fake, its at least one kick ass video that I would watch over and over in drunken sadness.
sam @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Actually, do you see that "?" on the box beneath the gamecube? THAT would be the console. The headset thing would be the controller. And yes, that would fit perfectly with the "3 dvds" thing that Nintendo announced and IGN has badly mocked-up: http://cubemedia.ign.com/cube/image/article/613/613493/pre-e3-2005-revolutions-size-20050513005156453-000.jpg
Also, IGN never said the idea was fake, just (fan) video.
Not saying this is real. Just something to think about...
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Anybody who writes the phrases 'needs to get out more' or 'way too much time on their hands' needs to stay IN more or do better, more innovative things with your hands and time.
Same sort of people that would have said H.G. Wells and Ray Bradbury should knock it off and be less 'visionary.' But now we send things to Mars and we have submarines roaming the seas...
I can't understand people who can't even allow occasional indulgence in far-thinking fantasy... Of course something like this won't happen, not for a while. But it's cool to see someone putting all together in an animated piece.
Olongapo @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Liked the video, but the system shown is most likely not real. It's too much of a loner system, which goes against Nintendo's community/party concept (think Mario Party/Super Smash Bros).
Eric @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Interesting note is what broadcom (nintendo's wireless buddies) said in a statement:
"Broadcom will provide wireless technology for Nintendo's next generation gaming systems. Nintendo's next generation console (codenamed "Revolution") will feature an ADVANCED wireless platform that INTEGRATES MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGIES for a high-performance gaming and connectivity experience."
I made bold the important parts there. Hey shouldn't someone do a trademark check on the logo's and name>? It says TM next to the name!
And remember way back when this was supposed to be a 4th PILLAR next to the console, DS, and gameboy line? Is this what that video is trying to say when it shows the gamecube compatibility and a mysterious box with a question mark? Thats the most mysterious puzzle if you ask me. Why would someone put that sorta thing in a video? It's another thing that seems to lend it a bit of credibility. What do you guys think?
This would be a huge leap forward, and Nintendo would definetly be creating a great gaming experience. I just wanna know what that damn mystery box is!
Havok @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Think of it this way. The Xbox 360 pics was "leaked" a while back. What if this is Nintendo's way of getting everyone hyped for the revolution that is to come.
Seeing as they have the "?" box in the video, it might be that they are trying to send out "clues" for everyone to find.
Anyone remember that PS9 commercial Sony made? What if this is just Nintendo's own "future" commercial. Ofcourse mockup, but their way of enticing and getting us hyped.
I for one would love to see this thing released, call it ugly, call it cool, I call it a revolution. Something like that has never been done, and Nintendo are always on the forfront of crazy design and ideas.
Let's all just wait and see in a week. ;)
If it's a fake, the guys who made it are my new heroes. XD
Andrew Howat @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
That video is really well done...
but developers wouldn't go for it: imagine trying to even start comprehending how to develop for it.It's a nice tech demo fake, and I was really impressed by the professional presentation of it, but no way it's real.
Hell, I wish it were real. :(
jerry @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
it's most definately fake.. samus and mario looked poorly modelled.. why would the next gen samus and mario look worse than the current gen samus and mario?
Andrew @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
The only thing that makes me think it's a fan video is the awful mario and samus models near the end. If those were on par with current nintendo quality, I'd be convinced it's real. Maybe the video is just an ingenious promotional strategy made by nintendo, and they purposely slipped in some shoddy parts to make us all debate wether it was fan-made or not and keep talking about it.
E.V @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I cant shake the feeling that this is just a clever attack from Microsoft to Nintendo. Get this video out and get all the gamers exited. When the REAL "revolution" hits, we all be desapointed cause the fake one looked far better. Thus 360º looks more appealing then. I dont like how the 360º looks and the fact that is Wireless...I wanna have the choice to have a cord or not.
This video is just BRILLIANT and if it was real, I would be 1st one in line to get one and for get 360º, Next, Xenon or whatever they are calling it this week. Besides, Seamus can kick MC's butt ANY DAY!
Austin @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Notice how the IGN link about this video says the person who made it is anonymous? A little strange, I think.
With all the rumours flying around, the one I liked best was that Nintendo had a very cool pre-E3 way it was going to show off it's most revolutionary feature. Obviously this headset brain thing isn't it, but it could be the start of the hype they want to generate when they actually do reveal it. Just my two cents, anyway.
Utils @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I'm really hoping this is fake.
noi @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I know a friend of a friend who knows a friend who is married to a friend of his cousin and who is married to a super model who knows a friend who works at Nintendo and he said that this video was real. I believe my friend's friends who told me that.

-g- @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
OMG!!! If only that was real, it rules so much!!
OR, it might be a hype thing, like Austin said.
Woo!, I want it now :)
Chess @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
OK it's not real but it should be. Before finding out it wasn't the real thing I was going crazy with excitement. Make your own games? Connects to your PC and TV? Proximity radar? VR headset? I started to believe that Nintendo was right when they called it a Revolution. I can't wait to show it to people and thell them it _is_ real.
Lightleaf @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Please let it be true, oh please!!!!
joey @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I think Nintendo have been developing this VR Headset and they probably only have 1 prototype at the moment. I think nintendo leaked this especially to get peoples reactions on what they think of some VR machine. I also believe that the VR is just one mode of several that this machine can do. The brain sits on your floor and it has a tracker that tracks movements and you walk or run on the spot physically in the real world and in the game you do exactly those movements. But i think that you have VR mode and aswell you can plug what you are seeing through the glasses to a TV so if you have a friend round he can see what you are viewing on the TV. Nintendo are not showing this yet because there using that video as a test to see our reactions to all this, they may not release the VR in the end but the brain probably can also have wireless controllers operating with it while you play normal games on a TV or projector, those are my thoughts and i hope you have understood.
So my thoughts to everyone on every gmaing site they should change their minds about how this would be so uncool and they should be saying yay this is amazing and i want it, this way nintendo will feel oh the last few years haven't been a waste, and there thinking to themselves that they will release the normal TV mode and VR mode to the masses. Then finally VR has arrived and traditional gaming still satys on the revolution and the world celebrates and everyone is happy.
Eric Pobirs @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I think you'd have to hold Nintendo's Marketing VP at gunpoint to get them to mention Virtual Boy in sales material.
Carl @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Just goes to show; this shure did bring out all the Big N's fanbois....
The thing would be a worse nightmare to program and code for than teh sega saturn.... any who think otherwise dont have an inkling in game mechanics
James @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Whatever the case, it is a nicely made video. That bit with Mario castles is wacky but groovy.
