evansbee - you claim headtracking costs 5 grand? Explain the Z800 Visor for $899 then.
Is it not good head track? When will it be available. Has someone seen review of? i think video ios fake too , but what is of the part with his leg and the arrow point ing to it - is that some kind of motion tracking - haven't someone posted about such a leg worn system before coming out?

I'm really confused at this point. On one hand I want this to be real while on the other I don't. I read an article a while back from an executive in charge of sales at Nintendo that said he agreed that the GameCube was not a very sexy machine, but that the Revolution would look much better. Why would Nintendo admit that GameCube wasn't as sexy as they had planned, but then add a box to the bottom of it. The box I refer to is the 3 DVD thick box that others are commenting on here with the "?" on it in the movie. I just don't think that Nintendo would add part of their new Revolution to the GameCube.

Does anyone on here think that there might be some truth to this... obviously now with the revolution revealed its a fake for the system but what if something like this might be available as a peripheral device ?.

Who knows but if you watch the video there is a clip where it shows the gamecube connecting to this new device and a device below the gamecube that looks much like the revolution but it has a big ? in place of a name.. I might be totally off the wall but hey its a possiblity

No clue if this is real or not. Could be a ploy by the other companies or a leak by nintendo. The squares are a recent addition to Nintendo's marketing strategy, ever since the DS launched so someone must have done their homework. It seems more aggressive than most Nintendo promotions but I completely agree that this couldn't have been done in one week. The rendering of the castles alone would have taken longer than that.

But enough speculation.

About the Siemens stuff...

I know for a fact that Siemens leases space from Nintendo of America at Redmond, WA. So perhaps there's a minor truth to the access of the VR technology.

I hope for the gaming industries sake that this isn't a fake.

The fun of believing it was real at first was replaced with the fun of knowing someone could make such a kick ass fake. Someone is gonna be a legend.

#102,there are a lot of sites with HMD/FMDs listed. Just google for "head Mounted displays" Prices for 3D ones with headtracking are way up there, like the man said, but there's the new emagin Z800 for only $900US. I don't know how they got the price down so radically. Maybe because it has OLED displays instead of LEDs. Some info on this very site. http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000873043851

I found this on the Nintendo Inside Page of Japan keep in mind when you use babelfish to translate the webpage everytime they refer to "Family Computer" it is really a bad translation of FamiCom i.e. nintendo it displays alot of information on VR suprisingly including how to cure vertigo in other words headaches from prolonged exposure.

http://www.nintendo-inside.jp/special/technology/10001.html

I also found another page with indepth detail on transmitting massive data securly over a form of wifi for video display.

This technology is very feasible and cost has gone down considerbly, oh and yes the box with the question mark is the revolution , the nintendo ON is a seperate Entity that will intergrate with the system. I believe maybe cause I want to or maybe cause the clues point to it.

I've watched the video. real or fake, it's f'n impressive. personally i think the vr headset thing would be great in football games or fps games. it could also be utilised to have more players per game ie 22 players in fifa 2006 (each controlling his/her own player)
in my opinion if it is real it's most likely to be an accessory for the revolution.

Also on the webpage source code it points to a University location for the video clip wich also includes a very funny musical video.

the location of the file is here.

I think someoen saw the video and decided to purchase the domain name before anyone else so when and if the product does come out they can sell it to nintendo.

I think the control method would be very similar to standard VR HMD's where you look around in the game through head movement and motion is controlled by gyros, and you move around through a more conventional method i.e. a controller of some type, this technology has been around since the late 1980's but very costly and in a infantile stage, now gaming technology has almost met its cap in the method we are using it for and the next logical step is a more immersive method of gaming.

Nintendo has always been on the forefront of new and immersive technology, remeber the PAD for the NES for running and stuff, remember the Light gun, and the Power glove, and then ofcourse the virtual boy then there is the touch screen on the Nintendo DS. It was only a matter of time before Technology would catch up to Ideas.

Siemen I believe is the one helping them develop the vr headset in asimilar design to their own Prototype displayed not to long ago, recently Nintendo made a offer for a patent on technology that would convert standard 2D images into a sudo 3D sterogram, this patent is currently in the VFX steroglass's for TV DVD and Games, ICUITI just developed a Semi immersive HMD glasses that have dual 640x480 LCD Displays for 499$, and Emagin had a booth at E3 with a VR HMD for 899$ that used head tracking comparative to the high end models, I think if any one can pull this off it is nintendo.

A animal is most dangerous when it is cornered and its options are limited.

Dont take the video as soemthing that is, it is merely a concept design for Investers and such forth to portray a direction they are moving in, I think it will look nothing like that I think it will look more conventional like the model Siemens made, it would have only 2 High quality earphones not four, and it will display on the TV at the same time so other people may view whats going on, anybody who has a Nintendo on with revolution would be able to wirelessly multi play games they just need to be in the same room and don their HMDs no cords would be required, and i dont think the game would require much moving around the room either.

Neat idea for a fake, since we still don't know much about the Revolution, but I don't know how anyone would consider this real.

First, the Nintendo logo at the beginning was used in N64 games (can't place which). All of the game footage is GC or older, except for the Mario at the end, which is obviously not the Mario we know. Did the evil Koopa stretch him with that torture device?

Nintendo should not go the gimmick road right now, and another VR headset system like the Virtual Boy is definitely down that road. Make a good traditional console, and set yourself apart with the controller, the price, and good games! I'm excited to see if the new "friends" (i.e. new franchises) are going to be any good.

I reckon the helmet is the controller and it sends a signal to the actull revolution which i think is that box with a "?" on it but i sill dont understand how that would be backwards compatible with the old games for the n64 GC etc..

Its not that hard to figure out how most of this would work. There would be the box that stands on its side that we saw at E3. It would be the thing that transmits the images to the helmets. The box would also be the thing that is backwards compatible with GC. You could have more than one helmet hooked up to the same box wirelessly for multiplayer. There would also be some sort of controller to use if you didnt want to actually get up and do the movements. To keep the system affordable the helmet wouldnt actually be included with the revolution. The helmet would just be an add on that would be optional for VR play in some games but wouldnt be required for any games. This would more casual gamers be able to play revolution games without having to fork out a ton of money for something they were only going to play a couple times a week. The revolution wouldnt go on the bottom of the GC because then it wouldnt be 3 dvd cases thick and it wouldnt stand on its side. Plus not that its a big deal but the revolution couldnt fit on the bottom of the gamecube if the game boy player was on the bottom. Also this would kind of make sense because nintendo said they were going to make the older games you can download better somehow which they would probably have to be to work with the helmet. There are a few problems with this theory but who knows what technologies have been created that maybe we dont yet know about. There are a few other problems that dont have to do with this being possible. You think some people complain about video game violence now, if this came out it would actually be like you were shooting or stabbing someone. Or imagine a game like mortal kombat and actally being able to do the fatalities yourself.

I think that something like this is a possibility maybe not quite to the scale of whats in the video, but still quite revolutionary. If anyone can do something like this its nintendo.
