So..... do we take that literally as the exact size? (3 DVD cases on top of each other) Or does that just mean in height.

If it will be that thin, I'd but it just so I could fit it in those tight places that nothing else will fit.

Damn, it looks like not only is Sony nervous about the 360 but Nintendo felt the heat and released some more information. Whats funny is, everything the revolution is going to have the 360 already had. If I was an XBOX fan boy I would be saying right now, Nintendo is copying the XBOX but I will not. BTW the only reason its so small is cause its using outdated technology. In all honesty, the 360 really is tomorrow's technology today. Rival system won't come out till next year and will probably feature the same features as the 360 (or maybe less).

I have faith in Sony. I don't think they're nervous at all about the 360.
They just don't want M$ hogging the pre-E3 spotlight.

Just because M$ pushed the 360 out (with that horrible MTV overhyped crap that didn't give any useful information) first doesn't mean the 360 will be the best console.

2Play: You did say it...

Just because X360 has some features doesn't mean no one else can have them. If that were the case, you should be whining that X360 is copying GCN's wireless controllers, since Nintendo had the wavebird first. Just because the system is smaller in size doesn't equate to less power. It's one year away and they may be using a smaller manufacturing process for the chips than MS right away.

In the end, I think the graphical differences between all 3 new systems will be negligible, and it'll come down to the overall experience, not sound and graphics.

Finally, Nintendo is catching up with the competition. The DVD format should have been used on the game cube and I am feeling the idea of wireless controllers and wi-fi connection.

Microsoft is using an IBM processor, an ATI GPU, wireless controllers, and has detachable parts of the console for customizing.

If anything the XBOX 360 is aping the GameCube.

360 does NOT have wireless networking built-in. It is available via add-on.

The article said the Revolution would stand horizontally. Horizontal is left and right, not up and down. So it won't stand on its side. It will lay flat, on the bottom, like usual.

Where do you put a robust cooling solution in a console that is only 1 inch high? Since the X360 is going to be water cooled, what will the PS3 and Revolution need? I guess you could side mount a set of cooling fins, maybe let them poke out the back or something. I know they work with tight spaces in notebooks, but no notebook today or even desktop PC has a triple cored processor that needs to be cooled! I'd be interested to know what's inside Nintendo!

#2, the Revolution is supposedly using even more advanced hardware than the 360. The reason it's so small is because the Japanese don't like big electronics, hence the reason that Microsoft only sells about 100 Xboxes per week in Japan:

#2, Nintendo was the first to announce wifi with their next console. They did it when DS was getting all hyped, then Sony and MS both announced they were doing it too. So if anyone is being copied, it's definitely Nintendo. Then again, it's not really anything unique. My laptop has wifi, so does my PSP, as well as my DS did, and PDA(if I had one). It's common tech.

Then again if both the Revolution and Xbox 360 will have the same hardware, the Revolution will have the edge because it will have something revolutionary we have never seen before and the other consoles won't have it. Most likely completely different controllers.

Why is everyone fighting for Nintendo and MIcrosoft? Just Buy the one you want and shut up. Stop confusing other people with you GEEKINESS. Microsoft is crap at making industrial designs, that why the Xbox1 looked like a Alien pc future computer and theXbox 360 is a mix of Ipod, dvd player outside and a something between a Miniatx and a notebook motherboard Pc. the customizing part is just silly. I rather see again the translucent xboxes than stickers.

Nintendo has been great at designs and has the most original consoles in their history. NES, Gameboy, GBA, GBASP, GAMECUBE and the VIRTUALBOY (altought very badly implemented!). Small factor is important and heat dissipation is not a Nintendo problem. I've never been burned by a GBASP like those 4 hours streaks on a PSP,that thing gets hot.

SONY has always had great designing teams but didn't ask for one for the PS1. Now since the PSOne they got go work and have made the most beautiful consoles this side of Nintendo. But they got carried away and now looks are more important than usability. Don't believe me? PS2 heating problems, crappy construction and little functional life (at most 3 years, without mods which reduced it to 1.5) and now the PSP that is beautiful on the outside and a witch inside.

man, I talk too much...

actually more news just surfaced over at IGN.com

the revolution DVD media is dual layered, and it can sit horizontally or stand vertically.

there was also mention that the 3" gamecube discs are actually part of the standard dvd side "powered slot", whatever that means.

Powered slot... What?

I'm guessing that means that the small gamecube discs will fit in the dvd tray... which is a no-brainer.

Oh, and i just got done watching the xbox 360 MTV presentation (in the UK)... I never expected it to literally be 28 minutes of Snow Patrol and the Killers, but low and behold.

Looks like 2Play, an Xbox fanboy, is feeling uneasy after the shoddy Xbox 360 unveiling!

I find it very interesting how Sony has clearly not only broken several records in the gaming industry, but also set many standards and trends. There's the Backward compatibility, and Now every company wants their system to be able to stand on it's side? How crazy is it that something so minimal could be seen as something so necessary by these companies now. I can't say that I blame them though. Minimal yes, but functional. Sony Is An Awesome Trendsetter!

To Thunder: I will admit that SONY was revolutionary when it designed the shell for the PS2 but aside from that, what they've done has not necessarily been trendsetting. Nintendo has by far locked down the industry with its systems, gaming innovation and a leader in finding ways to make old seem new. you don't believe me? Nintendo has a long, 20+ year history in creating games and making them interesting for people of all ages. The downside is that while nintendo spent 20 years creating, cultivating gamers, it was SONY that waltzed in and is now solely catering to those gaming fans that are craving more violence and gore from their games (adult gamers who lo and behold, started off with... Nintendo systems). Luckily for the big N, they have so much money they can keep coming up with new systems and still come out ahead of the game.. this is particularly good because with all the violence on most "adult" systems, parents continue to crave kid friendlier titles for their tots -- Nintendo would be wise to create a separate branch catering specifically to adults in addition to their kid friendly titles. This would enable Nintendo to lead the way in innovation, gaming experience and reliability we've all come to expect from them while enjoying the rewards of younger and older gaming fans.

( I do talk an awful lot, don't I?)

Oh my god you're all sad.

I love all three companies, they all make great consoles, all make great games.

You're all just bitter cos you can't afford the other two consoles.
