Quake 4 is already big
Sure, it's only a game clip. But it's twenty feet tall and it makes my knees buckle. The Quake 4 clip running at E3 is a sight to behold. High-rez graphics at that size make me believe in the HD era, if only for a moment.

I cannot wait to get my hands on that bad-boy. Uh oh, I better not say anything about how great it will be. Or else the Sony fanboys will flame me!
Allan @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I can't wait either. You know, Doom 3, despite the naysayers, was amazing except for the stupid cliche devil at the end. Otherwise it was a masterpiece. So, I can't wait for Quake 4.
carlos @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I love id software and everything that comes form them but using the doom 3 engine for next gen ... well, it doesnt compare to the unreal 3 engine And it doesnt look as fluid. Im sure they are still working on it so we shall wait and see the final product.
carlos @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM

Ben @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
A big, bad green guy #5. The shots go by so fast that you can't see stuff for more than a half-second.
Dralt @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Wow, Quake 44. That's original.
Yawn...I played this game 3 times already. I am not going to play it again.
Oh, and I played Doom 33 also. It was the same as Quake 33, but on Mars and in the dark. Other than that the gameplay was identical and the story line fit entirely on a stamp.
Really, I feel overwhelmed by the amount of creativity they throw at us these days.
Terry @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Oh, Dralt. How put upon you must be in your superior little world. Puleeeze... what a drama queen.
weaszel @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Two things I don't like about this picture: Shrek (on the right-hand side) and True Crime (on the left).
Ugh.

Yeah, right...insults are the answer.
Buy Quake 44 if you want to, that is your prerogative.
I will skip it and that's my prerogative.
Freedom for all, right!?
Now, if having higher standards is being arrogant, I am guilty 100%.
James Cole @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Doom 3 was not the same as Quake 3 at all. D3 was mostly single player, Q3 was mostly deathmatch. D3 was slow-paced, Q3 and fast-paced. They also had different storylines, graphics engines, weapons and characters. They were made by the same company, so I can see why you're confused.
The mind of a small child could identify these self-evident differences; perhaps these are the 'higher standards' to which you aspire?
I loved Q3 and am looking forward to getting excited about it, but, exercising my freedom to make considered and intelligent decisions, I will with hold my opinions until I play it.

Gameplay summary of both games:
Run around shooting at all that moves.
Keep your child crapology to yourself, you need it.
If Quake 44's gameplay end up being different than "Run around shooting at all that moves.", I will eat my words.

The problem with DOOM3 was the almost complete lack of Evil! What was with the Imps? They looked like spider headed aliens or mutants. They hardly look hellish at all! In fact, there was almost nothing hellish about DOOM3. It all looked more like just another alien invasion with zombies and mutants. Resident Evil had more demonic content then DOOM3 did! I never felt like I was really sticking it to Ultimate Evil, instead it was like playing an Aliens game with screwy Pentagrams thrown in for fun. Where did all of the Evil in DOOM3 go? It looked more like John Carpenter's "The THING" then it did a battle against Hell.
(I'll admit though, the evil baby flies were cool)
I guess ID just doesn't have the balls anymore to really go up against Hell. Then again, they are working with Microsoft now on the Xbox, so maybe they've joined the other side...
James Cole @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Dralt: so it's all shooting games that you have a problem with yeah?
MaxSmoke: I though Doom was very scary, almost so much it became unpleasant. I kind of agree with you, some of the monsters were weak (but not those babies). The biggest problem was that id transferred the original Doom gameplay onto a modern FPS. I was a huge fan of the original, but we're all a bit more sophisticated now and when, for the 100th time, a "monster cupboard" opens behind us because we walked over an obvious trigger, we start to lose patience. It was not a bad game, the audio was exemplary and graphics and use of shadows were ground breaking, it was just a bit boring.
I loved the fast-paced 1on1 fraggin of Quake, nothing except UT'04 and PK have come close to duplicating the experience. I want Quake 4 to adopt Promode speed and physics, but remember how let down I was with Q2, so I'm just hoping they'll keep true to their solid arena fanbase.
Intenna @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
The Quake series have been the best by far. Though there is one thing i want to see in quake 4 and that is the seemingly endless abilities to mod it from top to bottom, such as in quake2. I think that or just the lack of people moding q3 is what turned me off of it lately.
