IGN recently got a hands-on look at the Viewtiful Joe DS demo debuting at E3. They were impressed. The game takes
advantage of the touch screen in unique and refreshing ways, offering new hope for the future of Nintendo's wayward
handheld.
At its core the DS version is the same old Joe fans have come to cherish. But players will quickly notice that the VFX
abilities have undergone a complete overhaul:
"Players, for example, can literally split the scene on the lower screen, dividing the environment in half
horizontally to do specific tasks. So, for example, say there's a fire blocking your way. By splitting the scene and
sliding the upper half over, you might be able to break a waterpipe and spray water down onto the fire below. Or, you
might need to kick a huge bomb straight up in the air, but an object prevents it from getting as high as it can. Split
the scene and move it out of the way… The scene split's a simple matter of dragging your finger across the screen from
left to right or right to left. "
Sounds wild. Look for Viewtiful Joe DS to be hitting the streets this fall.

VJ DS is shaping up pretty well - one of the games I've been watching. If anyone outside Nintendo can produce innovation it's Capcom.
"Nintendo’s wayward handheld."
Tut tut, someone has let James Ransom-Wiley comment about the DS again, bad idea.
Hey James, just curious how Nintendogs is doing in Japan at the moment. I thought you said targetting non-gamers was a bad idea and even let Nintendogs decide that the DS was a "failure".
The Japanese charts have made for some mighty fine reading over the last month, and more. You should really read your Nintendogs blog then look up some Japanese charts covering the last few weeks.

Input "Nintendo’s wayward handheld", Output "Nintendo's smash hit handheld".

Yep and not only that the DS has been out selling the PSP 2 to 1 for the past few weeks/months and has already caught up with the PSP's sales for this year. Nintendo/DS has 5 of the top 10 best selling games in Japan for the past few weeks. The PSP has... none.

Does anyone else here find Geez to be kind of smug and annoying?

Oh Geez. What an errant fanboy you must be...
In this context "wayward" should be taken to mean "unpredictable". There have been more than enough grumblings from, gasp, even Nintendo-lovers, to justify that notion. Honestly Geez, are you really satisfied with the DS's current library of titles?
Because the DS is so different, there are a lot of variables that will key into its lifetime success. Will 3rd-party developers really take the time to develop enough innovative games for this unique piece of hardware? Enough to consider the DS one of the greatest handhelds of all time? That, my friend, is certainly unpredictable...
Holla back.

I personally find myself to be smug and annoying, that was my intention.
A good retaliation here James, couldn't deny that.
But do you have a good one for that ludicrous Nintendogs blog, I certainly think not.
Call me a fanboy all you wish, I certainly am a gamer and indeed my favourite platform happens to be Nintendo. If you wish to call me a fanboy go ahead - it certianly doesn't make me anymore wrong or you anymore right.
Don't worry anyway, I was directed to this news - Joystiq bias in this alleged handheld "battle" has soured me to the site. Blogging is opinion, yes, but you guys have a right to report fact with accuracy and not call a system a failure just because one game doesn't cater for you - that is just unprofessional.

Sorry, missed this.
"Honestly Geez, are you really satisfied with the DS's current library of titles?"
Yes, you see the DS is a portable console, one that shouldn't be played for hours on end at home. I bought it for short burst gaming .... the whole point of the system.
I haven't even bought some of the new titles hitting now that are good (and I want) as I'm playing through my current three, Polarium, Wario Ware and Mario.
If you were let down that is your fault entirely, you work for a gaming blog and knew fine well that the start was slow. Look at the E3 lineup and tell me the purchase wasn't worth it.
Nearly every platform has had a slow start, that's just what comes with development on a new platform .... I've seen the same thing right through the 20 year reborn gaming market.
