Xbox 360 - Final Fantasy XI details
"Exactly the same." That's what Square Enix representatives
answered when asked about the upcoming version of FFXI for the Xbox 360. Of course, this is not entirely true, as the
team has added support for HD resolutions. But for gamers hoping for a major overhaul, you're out of luck. The latest
FFXI port was initially designed for the original Xbox, but complications involving PlayOnline and the Xbox Live
services left the game dead in the water.
Now, an agreement has been reached that will allow 360 players to connect to PC and PS2 servers via PlayOnline and
enjoy the same aging game all over again (or for the first time). The Square Enix team reportedly had the next-gen port
up and running in a matter of 2-3 months, expressing much delight in working with Microsoft's latest hardware.

While a bit disappointing that the game won't take full advantage of the new machine's abilities, it is an interesting revelation that Square was interested in doing Xbox product earlier than we'd been given to believe.
MMORPG was a gaping hole in the Xbox offering since it was ideally suited for offering the genre to those preferred playing on consoles. Hopefully, there will be more choices like WoW.
Rocket Punch @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Frankly, I don't sse why ppl would want to play FFXI on Xbox360. Ok, so you will have to pay for the game that is 3 years old, pay for XL, and pay for playonline.
LOL, can't seem to find any logic to this when you can just buy the pc version "now" for $19!!!
For ppl who really really want this game, well they are already playing it either on PS2 or on PC. The ONLY type of person who will buy this is a diehard XBOX fanboy but hardcore at the same time, who do not already own a ps2 and do not have a pc that can play games and will not play any type of MMORPG because it is not on a Xbox.....
Anyone?? ANYONE???????????????

- What you said about paying montly to play the game plus paying the live service is untrue, since MMORPGs are included in the Live Silver Service, which means, to play MMORPGs in Xbox360 you don't need to pay live to play them, you only have to pay the game. Refrain from talking things, before checking anything, thanks.

How do you know thats is untrue?? Cause I don't think even MS and SE know how thats all gonna work. Unless you know more than they do, otherwise your "opinion" is as good as mine. If what you said is a fact, please provide a source.
Bascially you are "speculating" that SE will "give up" their fee and let MS make all of their money. At this point no one know how players will be charged.

Epimetheus, if i got this correct. You only have to pay 50 bucks for this game and not 15 a month for it? Is it free or aint?
MB @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I think it's too early to say if they'll be a monthly fee. Let's not forget that Sega did it with PSO on Xbox Live.
Am I the only one a bit worried about the idea of a multi-format online game. Sure a MMORPG should be fine, but what about a FPS. One of the things I like about Xbox Live is the level playing field. I'd hate to find a game made unplayable online without a mouse/keyboard.
Joseph @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
If Gates really wanted to sell xbox 360 and get people to sign up on live he would offer a top of the line MMORPG that had no other fees besides xbox live. That would move the new console like crazy.
Caleb @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
It will be just like playing it on PC or PS2...
You pay Square Enix for its Play Online service monthly.
You have to remember that with Xbox 360, Live (silver) is free.
Before, people had to pay for Live. Therefore, Square Enix can now port their MMORPG without customers paying for both Live and SE.
Simple.
Jeremy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I've already heard comments from FFXI players saying that they'll probably crossover to 360 if they get one. Anybody who owns the PS2 version knows that the login process is pretty tedious, so many are thinking that the consistent connection to Live, may speed things up a bit. I know this sounds like pure laziness, but if you don't understand this, you've probably never played FFXI lol.
I personally have the feeling that the 360 is going to be at the top of the next-gen wars (this coming from an anti-XBOX guy).
DjShady @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I played Final Fantasy XI and there was alot of things that were wrong about that game. I would never get this game if u have to pay a fee but if it was free i would love to start right over and play the game again. I just dont want to pay the fee because there is alot of hard A$$es on that game. It's just not worth paying it and dealing with morons.
Gates, don't make a mistake and let it have a fee lol.
Joey Geraci @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I am definitely an xbox and an xbox 360 fan, but I have to tell you, Microsoft made it pretty clear that xbox live silver will not include online multiplayer gaming or anything of the sort, so I don't know why it would allow you free (no monthly fee) access to MMORPG's. I don't really see the problem with it, $50 a year really doesn't seem that bad for consistent and dependable online play, and if you are going to pay for PC MMORPG's, why not pay for console versions.
DjShady @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I know $50 bucks aint alot a year i know this but all square Enix wants is that extra buck in there pocket. You pay $50 dollars a year for live and thats all u should pay for if this final fantasy XI is going to be on this system. If there is going to be a fee there should be a change of price because i would never start over because it took me MONTHS to level up lol. Gates should make is own MMORPG because paying 15 a month for crap that has been out for a couple of years COME ON. PSO for the xbox was 9 dollors and people hacked it crazy and it wasnt worth it anymore and final fantasy u got AHOLES and Auction House that is crazy over priced for people that started and u got leveling that takes 10 years to do. Theres a thing called a mog house and it looks retarted lol. I heard True Fantasy Live Online was going to be good but they canceled it and that was a huge mistake. I'm sorry but this game aint worth it guys and at least agree.
Pureshooter @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
If you future Xbox 360 owners want a great looking next-gen MMORPG then you should check out "Huxley". It looks like it will be alot of fun and looks great.
C @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Alot of current FFXI players will switch to the 360 simply because it'll look a hell of alot better than the ps2 version. Everyones entitled to their own opinion of what is and isn't worth it. Nobodies going to make you buy it. An why does everyone think because a mmorpg is old, it isn't worth it? You do know they add 'new content' to these types of games fairly often?
DjShady @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
C, the game is going to look the same as PS2 and PC version. They already said the game aint going to put out what the 360 can do. So, to answer your question it aint worth shit.
Twilit Riku @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Damn, I was hoping this would coem out for the XBox, not the 360.
If it's going to be the same as the PS2/PC version, why don't they release it for the XBox original?
DjShady @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Hmm, i don't really know but it might have do with the online for the regular Xbox. Online couldn't handle it probably. I like Final Fantasy XI but its simular to the regular game and i think its worthless.
Anthony Bell @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Play Online will charge everyone who plays their game. The charge is for the matainance and web mail and all the other things it provides. Your account should be good between PC, PS2, and 360 once it comes out, and you should be able to keep the same account to play on any of the three of your choosing at any given time. The only thing you can hope for is that Xbox drops its Live fee that way you wont have to pay two fees a month to play a game, and hopefully that wont be the only game you are playing online.
DjShady @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
There better be a mic into the 360 version because whats the point on getting this game and u can't hear your friends but only TYPE. I would think thats retarted.
Gooch @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
To reply to what DjShady said about it not looking any different read above article. It will look a helluva alot better as long as u have an HD compatible TV (I do). they revamped the resolution to support HD. You won't be able to ssee the mob's from farther but backround you will so as not too give advantage to 360 players. Also the mic will not work. i cannot remember site but i read a press release saying it won't because it would lag like hell also youd'd have a million and one asshole's talkin at once lol.
RyNo @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Hmmmm...
Without mics, 360 users will not be able to communicate quickly with other users unless they have a keyboard. There would be some rubbish controller based keyboard that noone can control.
DjShady @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Gooch: Also the mic will not work. i cannot remember site but i read a press release saying it won't because it would lag like hell also youd'd have a million and one asshole's talkin at once lol.
I'm going to reply on the mics what Gooch have said. I could totally understand that Gooch but if you really think about it. Why can't they build something only for party based. If mics can only work for partys and nothing else the game would be alot better at alot of point of views. I'm not saying i hope usuable mics in the town because i don't really want to hear 100's of assholes screaming and jerking there meat to bust balls but all i want is a mic based party only for partys. I'll get the game again if they thought of something good like that. So, do you guys agree?
RyNo @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
I agree completely.
How will 360 users communicate without mics though?
There will have to be some clever solution.
SlyDarkD @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Ok, even though I'm completely late on postin on this topic (August to November Late), dont flame me. I just feel the need to answer most of the questions and get rid of all the confusion that is going on. (if you did you're research and know all im about to say, DONT GO Flaming and saying "we know that already " or "your late".
First things first.
-Xbox 360 will feature a microphone for the game.
-Microphone privleges will be based on a party limit comm system, 1 on 1 talk, or if you prefer talkin to dozens of people, there will be chat channels. If anyone is spamming or screaming constantly, then xbox live users can leave feedback. (IT WORKS. The system of feedback works. I cant stress that enough.)
-Silver is Free. Playonline Service is not. You can play MMORPGs through silver though.
-Yes the game will feature xbox 1 graphics. The original design was put into play.
-Yes this game will suck for the xbox 360. No point of playin a really old game on a new system. Meanwhile wait for other decent MMOGs coming out for the 360 if your a xbox lover.
Lt Vadali @ Dec 22nd 2005 2:17AM
I would have bought final fantasy if it were for Live and not this play online ripoff. Ive always loved MMORPG but I really dont like this monthly fee crap that they are all doing now a days... (I really dont mind Live because it is such a deal.)
