Father and son side by side - Xbox and Xbox 360 comparison
What more needs to be said? Luke and Vader console-ified. They do look like they'd stack nicely. Thanks Drew!

Wow, it looks smaller than i thought!!!

Wow, it looks bigger than i thought!!!
Buck Q. Fitch @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Bigger than I previously thought.
DigitalStupor @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Can we please stop taking pictures of this thing on its side???? I will most likely not have it like that, and I am tired of it only being shown in this position. Anyways, other than that, this is a great shot! Def smaller than ol black clunkster there, but maybe a touch larger than was rumored. Need more angles to determine depth, top, etc. Thanks for the pic!
Dean @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
wow, the renders do NOT do it justice, It looks GREAT in that pic.
? @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
i cant see the picture
Eran Hawke @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Nice looking. Smaller than the Xbox but bigger than I expected.
Is it true that it is really liquid-cooled?
jon @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I want to see the PS3 next to the Xbox caus it's a bit larger.
CDog @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Broken image
oneill @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I'm in love all around in 360 :)
Dralt @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Wow!
It's barely smaller than the first one.
RS3York @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
The image is a bit deceiving since it doesn't include the Xbox 360's external hard drive. If one were to attach it the X360 would be almost as tall/long as the original Xbox.
Still, the X360 certainly looks much better than the original Xbox.
Ryuukuro @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Aww, such a happy family!
Mark Creig @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
That is a prototype. The dimensions of the actual production model are quite larger:
http://majorynos.com/archives/2005/06/xbox_360_larger.html
Slashriffs @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Mark Creig:
Did you even read the comments? If you take out your ruler you'll see that the original xbox
320mm x 100mm x 260mm
NOT
305mm x 101mm x 203mm
Jason @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
It looked huge when it was initial shown.
I've already started clearing space in my rack.

recoil @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
looks kinda photoshopped to me...
SuperSwamper @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I never saw what people were talking about when they said it was styled like the iPod, but now, seeing it side-by-side with the original XBox, I totally see what people are talking about. It does totally look a lot like a huge iPod. That's cool by me.
FrozenBox @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
It looks like photoshop, there are two different shadow angles
saycheese @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
It is a photoshop fake. As the poster above said, there are two different angles for the shadows, and the two consoles don't cast shadows accurately. If TeamXbox were to be believed, the 360 is a bit larger than the original xbox, albeit by a few mm in length and width. The height is less than the original xbox.
Not a big deal. I am buying a home game console, not a handheld. It's the power that matters, and the X360 has got oodles of it.
freudterr @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Sweet zombie jesus. It isn't a fake. There are not two shadow angles. There is a light above, behind, and to the left of the consoles. Additionally, there is plenty of ambient daylight from the open windows. Finally, there's a reflection in the slightly shiny table, which I'm guessing is what you visual impaired folk are confused by.
paintist @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
hahahaha @ "its a photoshop fake"
Have you NEVER been in a room with more than one light bulb? There is more than one shaddow because there more than one light source.
How about a PS3 / PS2 (original and mini) comparison? Or at least a PS3 / Xbox360
codejoy @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Silly debate, some of us saw it at e3. Sure not side to side by the old box, but its defiantly smaller, if not in dimensions the curved surfaces make it appear much smaller in profile. Far more pleasant than the current clunker.
Jon @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I can't believe some of you people. Thousands of us saw the dam box with our own eyes not 1 foot in front of our faces. The darn thing is much smaller than the Xbox! It is much skinnier.
Why do people still complain it's so big? It's smaller than many standalone DVD players? It's smaller than the Xbox and its about the same size as the PS2 except it looks much cooler.
It really does look really cool when you see it in person especially with the faceplates. I can't wait to purchase the silver face plate!
paintist @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
yeah because half the time I'm completely immensed in the awe inspiring graphics and the other half I'm simply staring at my console.
They could've made it out of black double dong dildos and you'd still buy it.
Drew @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
That link now has a Team Xbox logo on it. I'm not sure why. Here's the original 'clean' version for anyone who wants it:

Marc @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
does anyone know what kind of plastic is on the new 360 because I want to custom airbrush mine when it comes out!
Abyss_908 @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Well the original one is much bigger and thicker. The newer one is much smaller, sleeker, and sexier but I don't really care how the consoles look I mainly care about proformance. This is a great picture it's pretty great to compare them side by side. The new one definatly will be more main stream and not just for hardcore gamers because of it's look.

l0tus @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
LOL @ the moron claiming it's a fake. next time you want to sound like you know what you're talking about, try discussing hentai or tentacle porn...something youre more likely to know a thing or two about, because you obviously don't know $#!+ about photoshop.
l0tus @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
also, why the hell do they keep changing the color of these damn consoles? use BLACK, godammit. no one wants to see that discoteque piece-of-shit wedged into the middle of their entertainment center where EVERYTHING else is black. i don't know about the rest of you, but im not trying to show off my video game consoles to everyone (read 'females') that i bring back to my apartment.
Pex @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
You still have black components in your entertainment center? My Xbox is the only thing that isn't silver, and a nicer looking one (that doesn't have controller cords hanging down) will certainly find a more prominent (read easier to reach) place on my rack.
ferket @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I've photoshopped some pictures that look a bit like that one:
http://members.lycos.nl/decorveleyn/index.html
l0tus @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
"You still have black components in your entertainment center?"
no, everything is pink. i just wanted to rant about black...
yes; it's all black, and unless i can get a black case for that new 360, i probably won't get one. i wouldn't want to ruin the aesthetics of the focal point in my living room just to have it around. it's like they're moving backwards, using the colors of the original desktop PCs before they realized people didn't want to have to hide their bland, off-white PCs in a back room, hence the majority of desktops are now black out-of-the-box.
Jim Bob @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Take a look at whats in the background, their are too systems that say "debug kit".
paintist @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
the PS3 comes in black...and I'm sure you could get a black faceplate for the Xbox 360, wtf are you complaining about?
Stu @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
what I'm really interested in is what looks to be a halo edition xbox in the background with the words "debug kit" on it. At the risk of sounding like a noob, what does this mean?
Drew @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Stu, that's special Xbox they use to run unfinished code/games on. It's got twice as much RAM than a standard Xbox and a few other nice features for developers :o)
Pex @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Sorry, l0tus, I'm just surprised. I haven't seen a black TV for quite some time, and nobody I know has black components, everybody has silver. Maybe it's just the aesthetic of my circle of friends, but I also like the silver/white look more than black. Black just seems like an obvious anomoly unless you're enclosing it in a frosted cabinet. I don't have doors over my equipment, and the silver matches my decor better.
No offense intended by earlier snotty post. :)
Ijustcrashed @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Dammit. They both look terrible.
Would you seriously like the look of those things if they didn't have XBOX on them?
Bleehh..
The old one was rediculous but this one looks like an unpainted DVD player's aborted half cousin.
tobby @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Came on everyone can we all just get alone?
nobody knows until it cames out, once you get your hands on one you will be shock as hell to play by then all be forgoten.
All i care is those Debug Kits on the background.
Late
jason @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
I love how people complain that the different game consoles arent trendy enough. Its a game console, get over yourself. If you want a work of art, go buy a piece of art. As long as its not butt-ugly who really cares what it looks like? I think it looks so-so, but I dont really care as long as it performs well.
ferket @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
oh, I'm sorry, that was a wrong link.
Here's the right one:
http://members.lycos.nl/decorveleyn/image_168.jpg
shortgy @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Everyone who is complaining about what the thing looks like is stupid the first one was ugly as hell but it kicked ass. If u have a problem w/ what it looks like dont buy it and stop complaining
Kazmont @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
To the people claiming that its fake due to the shadows being at different angles...
Im going to guess that you guys dont know much about lighting and how it is effected by solid objects and refraction?
l0tus @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
"Everyone who is complaining about what the thing looks like is stupid the first one was ugly as hell but it kicked ass. If u have a problem w/ what it looks like dont buy it and stop complaining"
not all of us still live our parents, therefore we might have concerns other than stuffing a new game console into our entertainment centers just so we can play some new video games.
bartyboi @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
oh thank god its huge and not half as powerful as ps3
i was getting worried there geese
now i now ps3 has no competition
Ken Klassy @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
Dude, your gett'n a Dell! looks like the Optiplex line...
Kris @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
No matter what a console looks like people will never be happy with it. I know this tho all the consoles look good and i know this arguement will never end. I want a 360 i was in line for the first xbox and halo and i'll be there for this one. I think that that sony is a good company but there games are just not American enough always dubbed looking to me But thats what i think. Remember its not what youlike its what i like thats going to make me buy the console i choose in the end.
kire321 @ Dec 18th 2005 8:45PM
It is photo shopped. If you look between them, you can see a shadow. I'm talking about the heaviest one. The is nothing to generate it. The back edge is placed correctly, but the front edge stops too early.
I don't mind, the comparison is still good.
Some one said there is nothing to stop the PS3.
If you beleive this, check out:

All my entertainment electronics are black in a wooden cabinet. But to symbolize the 360's break from the ordinary, I intend to buy a face plate that is neither black nor wooden.
