I refuse to categorize Poker as a sport. I absolutely refuse. I don't care if it is on ESPN. If folk
are
going to argue about auto racing being a
sport, and believe me, they do, then to hell with Poker. Sport requires physical endeavour. Lifting chips and cards
isn't enough. Don't get me wrong. The poker bug has bitten me hard in a recent months. I've even started reading our
sister poker site regularly. It still ain't a sport, though.
Regardless of semantics, Activision want to get you hooked on the World Series of Poker. They've gotten the license
for pretty much every platform known to mankind, and probably a few that aren't.
As a note for trivia fans, care to guess where the leading research into artificial intelligence in poker is carried
out? Why, it's at the University of Alberta. Maybe Activision
could hook up with these guys, really raise the stakes (pun intended) for video game poker. Albeit
Poki Poker has beaten them to it.

It's not a sport... obviously. Just like writing isn't a sport, but people make money of that. Anyway, nice to see a poker game coming out. What is this, number 10 on the poker game list for this year?

Wait. If I know that the upcoming Stacked has the license for UAlberta's AI, shouldn't the intrepid Joystiq team?

you say racing isnt a sport because it doesnt require the physical aspect. that is too funny, do you know what it is like to have all that g-force pressing down on you, not to mention doing it for 4 hours, in a boiling hot car, and having to be perfect the entire time. id love to see you do that, i dont consider poker a sport, but nascar and some other forms of racing are more demanding than some other traditional sports, not to mention the risk being so much greater.
