After borrowing a PS2 for several weeks in order to play GTA San Andreas, I recently purchased the XBOX version of the game for my XBOX console. (I had to return the PS2 and I just have to complete this game!)

It may only be me, but I believe that the XBOX version of the game does feature better graphics than the PS2 version. Having just seen the PS2 version's graphics, the in-game models/objects and their textures seem to be a bit more detailed in the XBOX version's graphics. I read complaints about problematic decreasing frame rates brought on by foggy/rainy weather conditions; I have yet to encounter this problem. Others complain about how, as compared to the PS2 version of the game, the XBOX version's lighting is poor, but I cannot really perceive any differences in lighting between the two versions of the game.

I have yet to encounter any of the "draw distance problems" that gamers state that they have found (like running into invisible street light poles and walls). While I was disappointed to see objects such as buildings and trees "drawing in" as I approached them -- a problem present in the PS2 versions of all of the games in the Grand Theft Auto series -- it has not affected actual gameplay for me.

I notice a difference in the quality of some sound effects of the XBOX version of the game, too. The sounds emitted by weaponry in the XBOX version sounds more life-like to me as it is a bit deeper and seems to echo off of nearby buildings. Weapons fire in the PS2 version of the game sounds more "cartoonish" to me.

I do completely agree with most everyone's complaints regarding the control mappings. Drive-by shootings can be incredibly difficult to execute on the XBOX controller as compared to the PS2 controller. The fact that the game does not feature alternate controller configurations is beyond my comprehension. I would much rather have configurable controllers rather than the instant replay or custom (radio station) soundtrack features accessible through the in-game menu. (That said, this is the first game in the Grand Theft Auto series that I have owned on the XBOX; all of the previous versions I have owned for PS2, so I may simply be accustomed to using a different controller.)

Overall, I have been delighted with both the PS2 and the XBOX versions the game. I hope that I must only learn to use the XBOX controller to more fully enjoy the game.

Regarding comment #26. I'm not standing up for the guy or anything but I'm sure we all know he meant piece. However Pice (used by the British) comes from the word Paisa. It's a coin used in India and the surrounding region. It is a word. 100% is the equivalent of the integer 1. 3000% is the equivlant to the integer 30. You obviously haven't made it past 5th grade math. Some advice ... next time you try to insult someone's intelligence make sure you don't look like an even bigger idiot.

Old post, but here's some news:

This game is much better on the 360. The black & white buttons are up where they should be, as shoulder buttons, and the drive-by issue is solved. The visuals are slightly better. The control is much more smooth.

My only gripe is that I wish I could put the accellerate control on the A button instead of the R trigger, like on the PS2. I'm just used to it that way, and I miss not having the option to change the controls.

Overall, though, the 360 makes this game new again.
