Despite my obvious frustration, I gave
in to my own temptation and fired up San Andreas for another round late last night. To my surprise the pop-up issues
were no longer a concern, the draw-distance was remarkably better, and the odd texture-morphing of buildings had
ceased. Huh? Was this the same game I had struggled with just the day before?
Pureshooter left a comment on yesterday's post that seems to correlate with my own experience: "I noticed the game was
a horrific mess when I first loaded it up, but oddly enough, the more you play it the more smoothly it runs. It helps
to restart the game a couple of times. Cuts down on pop-up immensely. The draw distance is quite superior to the PS2
version, but not up to par with Vice City on the Xbox."
I don't have an explanation for this. But maybe someone out there does? Anybody? By the way, my new biggest gripe is with the targeting system—I don't know how many times the frickin' thing has locked on to something in the opposite direction of a rival gang member, causing me to catch a clip to my backside: "WASTED". Ughh…
