Nope, there hasn't been some tragic attempt on Vin's life. Rather he has signed on to play Agent 47
in the movie version of Hitman.
Having mulled it over for a few minutes, this is a pretty good bit of casting. Sure, Vin isn't the greatest actor around, but he's A) bald, and B) suitably badass enough to pull this off. I mean for all it's problems, XXX wasn't bad. *crickets chirping* Plus, if stories are to be believed, Vin is a big gamer, so hopefully he won't want to see the game license messed up.
There's also a good possibility that Vin will also become the face and voice of Agent 47 in future games.

The only thing I agree about is a), being bald. I think Diesel's voice is too raspy and not eeriely calm like 47's. Diesel is also too much muscle for the character. IMO.

The ultimate Agent 47 = Jason Statham
(plus he can actually act)
And Statham has both your "A" and "B" requirements.

Why would you want someone who can act in a video game movie?
Video game movies are for 13 year-old boys (literally and figuratively) who like big guns and explosions and boobies.
Seriously. Expect Master Cheif to have a sassy bikini-clad latina partner played by Michelle Rodriguez in the Halo movie.
You heard it here first.

I completely agree. If you have seen Jason Statham's movies you know he has played similar parts in pretty much every movie he's been in.
Diesel doesn't really seem to suit the role quite as well. However this choice seem to make it look like they plan on making your standard actioner rather than the better than average it could have been.

I agree, being fans of both Vin and Jason I'd have to say Jason would make a better 47. I don't know if he's got the acting ability to pull it off, since I think the 47 character is a little more in-depth (or could easily be written that way) then what we've seen in the games. This character in the movie could go either way, and depending on which way they go, Jason or Vin could do it well.
However, that being said I don't think casting Vin for the role is a bad move. I know a lot of people dislike his work but take a second look at some of his other stuff. He was honest and realistic in Saving Private Ryan, deeply emotional and showing great range in Multi-Facial (the short he wrote, directed, and starred in that got recognized by Speilberg) and in Iron Giant he did a wonderful job at the voice acting and brought a lot of heart to the role. Sure, for every SPR he's got a Fast and Furious.. but that doesn't mean he's not good. He's got more range then people are willing to acknowledge...
If they get a good director behind this movie and a writer and DP who know what they're doing and know the genre, then I think it could be good. Just don't let Boll ANYWHERE near it!!!

Alright Matthew, I've now got a renewed hope that this could be a good movie.
A good director is alot more important to this as I agree that Diesel could pull this off, regardless if I think Statham is a better choice.
I think the biggest problem I have with Diesel in this is that I have a feeling that they are going to get lazy and use his star power to sell tickets rather than make a good movie.
I'd rather they left his voice out of the video games tho.

Count down to Uwe Boll being announced as director and us all having to remove our eyes in self defense in three, two, one....

Definitely, Vin does not fit or look the role for the Hitman. Playing all the three series of Hitman it is much more sense to take someone who would be cold looking. Vin does not look the character like the cold Hitman killer. Comparing the acting and the roles of Vin and Jason in their previous movies, it is much more sense to take Jason.
Look wise I think the person who competed in The Contender Jesse Brinkley (when he was bald during The Contender) would be the perfect match (if he was an actor) because he has got the cold look and actually looks very much like the Hitman himself

I would have to say that Kevin Bacon would be an interesting choice for this part.
I mean, Hitmen should not stand out and should not be bulky and handsome like Vin Diesel is, they are supposed to be discret and avarage and easily forgettable. I Kevin was not an actor and you passed him on the street, you would probalby not remember him in a line up, but if Vin passed you, even if you are a guy, you´re gonna remember the beefy guy you passed that was not black, and not white.
anywho.. just my 2 cents :)

Good god PLEASE NO. Not Vin Diesel.
He's just plain wrong for Agent 47 (did they cast him just because he's bald?). If Diesel is the lead in this movie, it'll SUCK hard. No doubt about it.
It'll be one more video game character that Hollywood f**ks over.

Why not just get the guy who does the voice for Agent 47 to do it. He's an actor as well, i think he looks like Agent 47 as well. http://www.davidbateson.dk/

vin diesil is a good actor and the young people love him... i do think he can be a good hitman the guy can make serious films ( saving private ryan is a good example ) the big problem about this movie is the director, uwe bowl il simply destroy the movie we need someone that can realy mantain the dark atmosphere of the game... not turn a cold assassin like 47 to a rambo...
