Microsoft wants to sell 10 million Xbox 360 consoles in first year or so
You can argue (and we're sure you will) about whether they're being totally realistic or not, but Peter Moore, VP of Worldwide Marketing and Publishing for the Xbox, announced at a conference in London that Microsoft expects to sell 10 million Xbox 360 consoles within 12 to 16 months of its launch (which is set for later this year). Microsoft's banking on the first mover advantage (read up on the Dreamcast to see how this can be double-edged sword) and an avalanche of youth-oriented marketing to push them over the top this time around, but to put things in perspective, it's taken them almost four years to sell 20 million original Xbox consoles.

It's entirely plausable
Pip @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I'll wait till its $150 or $100 like Nintendos Revolution.
First out the door means jack these days. You get stuck with one decent game, and ten really really bad ones for an entire year, by which time the console has price dropped two or three times.
The only thing that was holding back the XBox and Gamecube this round wasn't "first mover" advantage, but rather total developer advantage. Microsoft will need to get the 500+ developers onboard and shipping games by the end of the first year.
And I dont mean US developers. It's the Japanese devs that sell these machines. The quirky Japanese RPGs. Devs like Atlus and such. And not quick built games just to have a title, but actual games.
rc51 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
In what parallel world is Microsoft will this take place.
I really doubt that they will sell 10 million of those UGLY box in one year!
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I would say it is a little bit of a stretch for the 10 million goal, but the comment about how many units have sold so far needs to be looked at a different way. How many units have they sold since xbl (xbox live) has been around? I am willing to bet the number has dramatically increased. And since you will get a free xbl account (at least I think on weekends for the silver package)I think that will be a big driver for the 360. I would also bet that sometime in the one year time frame, that Bungie will release Halo 3 (same day as ps3 comes out, accourding to B.Gates). That will also boom sales, just like H2 has for the current xbox.
My 2 cents.
Mikan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
There is no first mover advantage in gaming. SNES eventually overtook Genesis and Saturn/3DO/Jaguar were all released before playstation and all failed as well, along with the quoted Dreamcast. IOW, there has never been a case where the first release "won" in gaming.

Will he get fired and repay part of his salary if he doesn't reach his target ? :D
If yes he can open his mouth like this. Otherwise it's just the usual marketing sauce. Anyway I will get a Sony (also after the price drop, paid too many years the early adopter premium)
hiredgoonz @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Except for the PS2...
epobirs @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
It's a reasonable number for for all regions combined. A lot of handicaps they faced last time around aren't a problem any longer or greatly reduced. Their brand in consoles is well established in the US and Europe, a fair chunk of the existing major Xbox titles will run on the new machine to reduce reliance on a rushed launch selection, the Xbox Live infrastructure will be there from day 1, etc.
If Halo 3 does just half the business of Halo 2 it will drive the sale of over three million units all by itself. If Mistwalker's titles ship within the first year (and assuming they live up to expectations) it will easily drive a million consoles unit sales in Japan as well as adding more. If you have a big RPG the first million machines is easy. Keeping up the momentum so that people don't sell off the machine when they're done with the game is the hard part. That was a big problem for the N64 in Japan and could easily happen to any other platform viewed as having a must-play title only once a year or so.
OTOH, Sony can expect to do similar numbers if they can deliver the units. The Blu-ray feature will draw in a lot of HDTV owners who might otherwise have waited. Having Blu-ray as part of a game system makes it easier to justify the purchase without being sure it will be the dominant HD content delivery format.
James @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I think Microsoft's biggest competitor will be themselves. Most people don't buy consoles until they hit $200 or $150. This means that most of the original Xboxes in the world are only 2 years old. I think Microsoft was smart in not launching head-to-head against Sony but we'll see if the market is ready for 4-year hardware cycles.
10 million is a tall order, unless they have a truly unprecedented number of exclusive games coming out for it they've got to be blowing hot air. Every console since the Dreamcast has been hit with a dead period between launch and about 6 months later when games are scarce. If Microsoft can avoid this that's good for them but either way they're going to need a lot more than "The Godfather" and "Tony Hawk" with better graphics. There's some great looking games in the works for the 360 but we all know that most launch titles that they use to hype people don't deliver, are delayed or canceled. They're also launching without Halo which is their #1 title by a factor of four.
I also hope their unprecedented "youth oriented" marketing avalanche won't be as cringe-worthy as I'm imagining it.
sam @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Doable if:
1. priced at $199.00
2. priced at $99.00 + Gold xbox live ~19.99/month. Subsidize the hardware with subscription service, ala cell phones.
I would bet some form of #2 is in the works. Cheap Hardware, but you have to pay monthly fees.
TheUndertow @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
It's possible - the first Xbox took so long to reach those numbers b/c it was fighting an uphill battle coming out at the same time w/ Gamecube and 18 months AFTER PS2.
It was also an unknown, so it took time to build up a trusted gamer base.
They have the pub. support and they have a great platform (w/ flourishing online server, included hard drive again...etc.) so why not?
Hopefully the uninformed will realize that PS3 is a hype machine and that they can get an equally strong machine months earlier for a lower price.

It's rather more complicated than that. All of those platforms had massive problems that completely negated any advantage of timing.
For instance, at the time of the SNES launch in the US, Nintendo of America still had a stranglehold on third party publishing. If you wanted to be on a Nintendo platform you had to sign a contract saying you would put the game on any competing platform for no less than two years. This wasn't like Sony offering a big chunk of cash for a six month exclusivity window, this was Nintendo demanding exclusivity for free and for a period guaranteeing the property would be essentially dead by the term the contract expired.
During the 8-bit era Sega hadn't caught on the to the critical importance of third party support but it started to sink in after banging their head against the wall long enough. NEC (PC Engine/TurboGrafx) sold a lot of chips to Nintendo and wasn't going to make waves even though this doomed the TurboGrafx to compete without access to some of the best games in Japan because they'd already appeared in NES versions. Sega finally wised up and sued NOA who settled out of court once it became clear they could faced some serious punitory costs. By no small coincidence a version of Streetfighter II for the Sega Genesis soon appeared and the US console market was an even playing field for the first time since the NES first went on sale. Nintendo dominance has diminished with every generation since then.
3DO and Jaguar were never serious contenders. Saturn was a train wreck. Sega failed to see how important 3D would be in the coming generation and tried to retroactively fix the problem by tossing more chips in the box with no real plan for how developers would properly use them. On top of this Sony had the first business model to properly exploit the advantages of optical media production, especially in allowing small Japanese retailers to manage their inventory on a weekly basis. That meant far more in acquiring loyalty from the sales channel than the popularity of Virtua Fighter.

Charlie @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Firstly, they arent going to be selling any xbox360s until they have some really compelling games out, like halo 3 and some other new and exciting brands.
Second of all, idk if you guys remember but Ballmer shot himself in the foot in an engadget interview when he said that people "are foolish to believe that we'll go throught this whole cycle without a new media" (something to that extent) and then expanding, saying that developers were telling them that they needed more storage space and that they plan on choosing a new media format once the winner is more clear... he mentioned that Sony would be screwed if blu-ray ends up losing the format war.... because then they have extremely expensive hardware in their systems that won't be getting much cheaper with time, and the games will come on extremely expensive disks, also not getting much cheaper.
Anyways, even the most basic foller of the console industry knows that if theres one thing you can never count on, its a hardware upgrade. Just check out the amazing success of the 64DD or the Sega CD drive (dont even know what its called). Basically, only a certain percentage of users will buy the hardware upgrade, so few developers are going to spend the millions of dollars necessary to program for the upgrade, which fuels a vicious cycle of total failure.
This means that unless microsoft takes some type of revolutionary action, if it ships with a DVD drive, you can expect that most games will be coming out on the DVD format ONLY, even if they release an add-on hddvd or blu-ray drive at some point. Microsoft COULD guarantee everyone at launch that they will provide the new drive free when its available to everyone who had purchased an x360... but they wont.
Anyways, i'm one of the people that would have definately bought an x360 around launch assuming there was at least one killer ap and a few other good games... but i wont now because i know that they're gonna try to make me buy a media drive down the road, and i dont have to deal with that shit. I'd rather buy a new video card for my computer.
Timeinpictures @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Keep in mind that microsoft also claims that by the end of 2007, they will have 1 billion XBL subscribers.

robotplague @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Out of all the consoles they're really, really pushing the whole youth, X-treme, trendy, hipster approach with their marketing tactics...which a lot of teeny boppers eat up, so who knows. But I don't think that will be enough, they're trying hard though. I won't be included in that 10 million, however. I'd rather wait for the revolution/ps3.
zatrix @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
well as far as i'm concerned they have 9,999,999 xboxs left to sell
Scott @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I'm so tired of the trite Dreamcast comparisons. Sega was already in financial trouble and had come off previous disapointing console launches. They didn't advertise the Dreamcast anywhere near as much as they should have. The Dreamcast also didn't have decent developer support either...especially when EA announced they wouldn't develop for it.
The only thing the Xbox360 has in common with the Dreamcast is that it is launching first for this generation. Everything else that was a weakness for the Dreamcast is a strength for the 360.
Is the 10 million unit prediction a bit much? Probably. But you got to shoot high.
Domino @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
What are the killer aps for launch that make them think that they will sell 10 million??? Gears of War? We do not even know if the game is any good even.

Hey charlie what an analogy about forcing you to buy a HDD drive later. Are they ganna put a gun to your face and tell you buy a HD drive upgrade only from us? First this is a big IF they do plan on upgrading to a HD drive, for all we know they never will put a add on for a HD player. + I much rather buy external HD player from companies like Pioneer, Denon, Yamahha than those crapy MS, Sony preinstalled players in consoles. Damm my son's APEX DVD looks better than playing on Dvd's on Xbox and wayyy better than on the PS2 dvd player.
And yes go buy a new G70 (7800gtx) for your computer and spend 600$ which is what retail will be this coming week.
You should also not buy a PS3 becuase they will make you buy a hard disk add on cause since we all know it wont be shipping with it.
You will also not be buying a revolution cause since they will really not support the HD drives at all. Even their regular dvd's will be a add on.
So i guess You wont be buying no next gen console becuase they will make you buy add ons.
I guess you are not a gamer just a multimedia freak right? And since you depend on consoles to give you your movie experience then you are sure a sad one at best.
As for the 10mil comment. Only if japan sales increase to atleast 1 mil within the first 12-16 months. Which i dont think japan will buy American consoles at all. Even with RPGs coming to xbox. The 20 mil of the current one is really in two regions, America and Europe.(include AUS too). Asia is really non-existing. Don't know the real sales figures but in 4 years they havent even cracked 1mil in Asia. So no I dont think they will sell 10mil in the first 12-16. Maybe 8 mill is more closer number.
vidGuy @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I think 10 million is doable, especially with all the attention Halo gets (the most overrated game ever, IMO). But the XBOX360 will have ok sales at launch, strong sales when Halo3 comes out, and only slow sales 4-6 months after that. I expect it to do well overall, and probably obtain an equal market share with the PS3, but I don't expect it to win this generation.
The1 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Well, I hope MS does sell 10 Million x360's across the world. I am glad MS has 100 plus titles in development too. All you haters who think that the first bunch of games on the X360 will be CRAP need to realize this is not the PS2 or PS3 for that matter. The games are not being RUSHED to market in a reactionary manner. Just hope that the first batch of games for the PS3 do not come out in CRAP.
Chris @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I hate you engadget for reminding me of my Dreamcast.
If M$ wants to sell that many, they might want to make sure it's priced so that joes like myself who bought the Dreamcast, got dumped and decided to wait for the next gen instead of buying a cube, ps or xb, will not feel like they are taking a huge plunge again into the gaming world.
Matthew Goeden @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
Everybody (err, most everybody) is missing the point here.
Although there was first mover advantage with the last generation of video game consoles, this time around there won't be. Didn't the PS2 beat the XBox to the store by like 1 year or so?!?!
The PS3 will be released close-enough to the XBox release. Even so, Sony's PR machine will at least match M$'s PR stride for stride (have you ever seen a "cool" M$ ad?)
The first mover advantage will play a "back seat" to past reputation or fan base.
This generation of consoles will be bought by fans of the old consoles. PS fans bought PS2 because they loved their PSs. XBox fans will buy XBox 360s because they love their Xboxs.
The problem Sony faces it is that plenty of PS/PS2 fans became XBox fans, mainly due to Halo.
On the flip side, I don't think very many Xbox fans became PS2 fans.
So, here it is in simple algebra:
XBox 360 Buyers = Xbox Fans + Former PS2 Fans
PS3 Buyers = PS2 Fans - Former PS2 Fans
Simply put, the XBox has picked up momentum since its release while the PS2 has lost momentum.
If you want to check this out, just walk around your local college dormitory this fall and count the consoles.
guslav @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
10 million is, well, unrealistic. we really don't know how 360 and ps3 compare until independent engineers and software developers sit down with them. but most people think the ps3 will be much more powerful than the 360, and the 360s screenshots are a tad bit underwhelming, and don't really make the case for ditching your xbox (though later games will)...
those in the know realize most of the ps3 vids were rendered, but what about the non-hardcore? 360 will be REALLY lucky to sell 2 million before ps3 comes out, then it will be a tooth-and-nail fight for every sale afterwards...probably the 2 consoles aren't that different in the end, but right now most people think they are. sony's marketing people outdid microsoft's...
...5-7 million is a better estimate, and good for msft as well...
charlie @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
" First this is a big IF they do plan on upgrading to a HD drive, for all we know they never will put a add on for a HD player."
No, its not a "big if". In an official interview, Ballmer is quoted as saying "it would be foolish to think that we would go the whole generation without a new media" and "developers are telling us thaqt they need more space".
"much rather buy external HD player from companies like Pioneer, Denon, Yamahha than those crapy MS, Sony preinstalled players in consoles. Damm my son's APEX DVD looks better than playing on Dvd's on Xbox and wayyy better than on the PS2 dvd player."
I wasnt even talking about movies, and I completely agree: as long as you've spent over $1500 on your new HDTV, you might as well spend a couple hundred more on an hddvd or blu-ray player that doesnt blow. But, in your attempt to "dis" me, you missed my entire point. DEVELOPERS NEED MORE ROOM FOR GAMES. There are already PC games that come on two DVDs, and as texture resolutions get higher and more high quality surround sound music is added, a DVD gets tight for space. Even the original Halo, A LAUNCH TITLE FOR XBOX, was crammed for space because it had a good deal of dolby surround sound, which takes up multiple GBs.
"You should also not buy a PS3 becuase they will make you buy a hard disk add on cause since we all know it wont be shipping with it."
Exactly. Look at PS2. you can slide in an hdd if you want aftermarket, but how many games support them? How many games have features like the xbox does, where the game caches resources on the hdd to reduce loading times? How many games allow you to record gameplay, like a few on the xbox do? Not many, because the developers dont feel it worth it to spend so many resources on building something that only a small percentage of their target market will take advantage of. However, not having a next gen optical drive is probably worse than not having an hdd.
"Even their regular dvd's will be a add on.
So i guess You wont be buying no next gen console becuase they will make you buy add ons."
that was pretty stupid... i was referring to hardware add-ons that would provide additional functionality..., on gamecube, you can play mario without owning metroid... what are you talking about?
"And yes go buy a new G70 (7800gtx) for your computer and spend 600$ which is what retail will be this coming week."
yeah, because the only graphics card on the market is the highest end one...
zander106 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I don't get why people think that the release of Halo 3 will provide a halo effect (no pun intended) that will drive up sales of XBox 360. I don't think the continuation of an existing franchise is enough to get anyone to buy an XBox 360 who wasn't going to buy one anyways.
For sales to climb, a new franchise will have to emerge that will show gamers something that seems fresh and new. Playstation had Metal Gear Solid (the first sneak 'em up) and Final Fantasy VII (first cinematic big-budget RPG). N64 had Goldeneye, the first FPS done right on the consoles and with excellent multiplayer. Playstation 2 had the GTA series, nuff said. Heck, even the Sega Genesis had the first Madden and NHL games with the new "vertical" camera angle for better playability.
We've already seen Halo, so that's nothing new. I don't see Halo 3 on its own pushing another 3 million consoles. This also relates to the PS3 as well; more of the same (GTA, MGS, Gran Turismo) is nice, but what will make the console a breakthrough is when gamers see something they haven't seen before. I didn't buy a PS2 until GTA 3 came out because I had never played anything like GTA 3 before and I couldn't on any other system.
So I will wait with bated breath to see what the next gen in GAME DESIGN, not simply console design, brings us. Chances are we don't even know what it will look like yet. But that will ultimately determine who will be on top of the mountain after Christmas 2006.
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
As far as the PS3; I wonder if Sony will pull the same shit again as they did with the PS2 and PSP: produce too few in an attempt to increase demand.
-------------------
Er.. you mean.. *shakes head... cut supply...
That doesn't increase demand.. it theoretically increases the price but the price is set by the company.. all it does is piss off customers..
most likely they never cut supply at all.. they'd love to sell every system they make.. what you saw was an incredible demand for the product...
Backwards compatible and DVD play functionality was a big deal back then..
zander106 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
#31, Matthew: The problem with your algebra is that the installed base of PS2 owners is so far ahead of the installed base of XBox owners (80 million worldwide vs. 20 million worldwide, last I checked) that even if, say, 20 million current PS2 owners defected to XBox (while the rest upgraded to PS3), that still leaves a 20 million person gap for MS to fill.
Also, I don't buy the "PS2 has lost momentum" argument. According to industry research firm NPD Group (http://games.channel.aol.com/news.adp?articleID=275630&gameID=7315) GTA: San Andreas sold 5.1 million copies last year while Halo 2 sold 4.2 million copies. 6 out of the top 10 selling games in 2004 were PS2 games, versus 3 for XBox (and a Pokemon game for GBA). Where's the lost momentum there?
I think it's fair to say that we should be looking at the local college dorm *next* fall to see what the kids are buying. This fall is a little unfair, considering only one of the players will be on the market. I don't think the PS3 will dominate the way PS2 did, don't get me wrong -- I'm not here to be a Sony fanboy. I'm just saying we'll have to wait and see what happens.
Personally I think it will be a draw this generation, like the days of Genesis and Super Nintendo. Which is fine with me.

Thanks zander106 for some hard data as opposed to my "made-up" stuff.
But really, GTA3SA sold because people wanted the game NOW; not due to the popularity of the PS2.
I cannot speak to worldwide numbers; but I would be willing so say that over 35% of PS2 owners own an XBox and play the XBox more than the PS2.
That is all I am trying to say. I still think that XBox converted PS2 fans into XBox fans.
GTASA stats aren't compelling enough to convince me otherwise.
(disclaimer: I love my PS2; I dislike the XBox; I think of the XBox 360 and PS3 equally; except that the XBox 360 is sexier looking.)
Malfoy Roark @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
At least we can all agree that more often than not (that would be 50.1%+) MS and Sony fans can put aside their differences and join together to frown at N and their offerings. :)
haloman @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
zander106 - Do you know that Xbox "won" the console hardware sales title last year (in the US at least)? That's your lost momentum for PS2 considering if hadn't lost in many years. (I'm too lazy to look up the numbers, but I think the PSOne might have even out sold the Dreamcast when it debuted). Also, I'm guessing that many of those 6 million consoles sold (worldwide last year) had something to do with the highest sales entertainment release ever ($125 million) in Halo 2. So, I could logically guess that there will be another "halo" effect for Halo 3. Given that Halo 2 sold 6 million copies in 6 months, Halo 3 should probably perform similarly.
In the end, I think it'll be a draw between Xbox 360 and PS3 with Nintendo being a distant 3rd. This would be a HUGE victory for Microsoft being able to pull even with Sony, and I think they'll both sell 10 million units by the end of 2006 (if Sony can meet the demand). The ironic thing is that if Microsoft did sell 10 million units they would lose about $750 million to $1 billion on hardware (given the acknowedleged $75 loss on a $300 unit, and if there was a price drop, then even more of a loss).
Vince @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
I agree with 6 - 8 million units. I do really believe that only the staunchest PS3 supporters will actully wait for the PS3 without buying and enjoying an XBOX 360. I know alot of people that are already cracking a little. I have to give it to 360 that they showed actual gameplay at E3. I know for a fact that the PS3 presentation was a tech demo only. I mean who could forget the PS2 and the Ridge Racer demo and the XBox and the Dancing Robot! Having us believe that was the future of gaming... it never arrived did it?
James @ Dec 18th 2005 9:51PM
"Do you know that Xbox "won" the console hardware sales title last year (in the US at least)?"
You mean for 2 months of "sales growth" and not total units, right? Getting your news from Microsoft's PR company is a bad idea. No matter how you slice it there's 90 million PS2s in the world and 19 million Xboxes. There's almost 2x as many PS2s [36 million] sold in the US alone as there are Xboxes total.

i am personally sick and tired of you assholes telling microsoft off because it owns xbox. i mean last gens xbox must have really pissed you guys off with its supperrior power. i guess thats why you guys are attacking it so bad now. you guys take a shot at any console you can when they have their guard down. thats what happened with the dreamcast as soon as sony saw it was a threat. too bad it wont work with the 360.
and funny how SONY has a very reliable track record of under delivering. i mean the 360 and PS3 are almost identicle in power except for a little shortcommings on both ends. but when the PS3 DOES come out and it is under-delivered once again, you guys will be shitting yourselves. because the 360 didnt show bullshit CG movies and they delivered on specs, because it has been tested, but nobody has tested the
PS3. wonder why? oh and if they DID have the power to create all those CG movies into realtme, they why no playable games? its only 6 months away (if not less.) from the release of the 360 so it should be done.
while dev kits have been sent to developpers for the magic of game creation to begin on the 360'2 side, Kenny is sitting there dissing it. no, not because he is confident but because he is scared. and deep down inside every PS fanboy knows it. cause all you do all day is search the web for info that puts down the 360 to back your asses up.
and yes i am a fanboy aswell but npot the kind that spews out garbage every second they see a competitors article of what they hope to achieve. because 10 000 000 sales is alot more realistic than what SONY is hoping to do.
oh and BTW go ahead and answer to this comment actually ill be checking up on it every day to see some a-holes half-assed comment. on how i am "WROOOONG" and sony will pwn my soul or some garbage.

Who really cares about how powerful the Xbox or the PS2 is. It is the games that make the system not the system its self. The Game Cube is more powerful then the Xbox or the PS2 but no one really has or uses a Game Cube because there are no good games for it.

I think that its BS that people are thinking that Halo 3 is going to be the driving force for sales of the 360. Thats alot of presure to put squarely on Bungie's shoulders. The 360 does have a few interesting titles coming out that may drive up the sales other than Halo 3. ex. Prey (looks weird but good), Elder Scrolls, and my personal favorite Gears of War. They are all respectiful titles. But what I do believe that will drive up the sales of the 360 is that when the PS3 does finally release and cannot match the online structure or capabilities of the 360 I think there will be a spike then. 10 million units worth? Who knows but it will be interesting.

"The Game Cube is more powerful then the Xbox or the PS2 but no one really has or uses a Game Cube because there are no good games for it"
I know many ppl that would disagree with you on that. Metroid, Mario, the Resident Evil series, including 4, Legend of Zelda and SSBM are all amazing games.
And, Arch-360, you spew the same filth that those you hate do. You even kept the 360 as a namesake, so cute... "360 and PS3 are almost identicle in power except for a little shortcommings on both ends" I agree with you on that, though.
I actually think that they will be very close in sales, because, as someone else mentioned, only the really hardcore fans will hold out for the PS3 and not buy an XBOX360 too (unless of course, the money is a limiting factor).
Being a year away from a system launch is quite different than being 5-6 months from one, so I think Sony made the right move by showing CG movies. If they didn't show anything, everyone would be worried. But they didn't have the time to develop an impressive demo that is playable because that TAKES A LOT MORE EFFORT. MS's approach this generation is a good one, definitely one that will win them a bigger chunk of sales.
I personally am undecided as of yet. Because of the games that come out for the systems, I'm leaning toward the Revolution first and PS3 after a price drop. XBOX360 if they ever come out with a game I want that isn't Halo and isn't on PS3.

k
1. i dont spew out the same garbage because i gave facts and nothing i said was fake because this all happens.
2. whatr you said about if they didnt release CG videos everyone would be worried is right. and thats exactly where the lies come in. they didnt show videos that actually related to their games. they showed bullshit. which is why they always win. they get your hopes up and when you buy the console and you are disapointed, its already too late cause they already made a sale.

@ 42 Just because they "won" hardware sales titles doesn't mean that M$ is doing the best out of all the systems. They're not recording very good profits right now, because the Xbox is very expensive to manufacture, where as gamecube and PS2 both are rather inexpensive. Sony is currently recording a lot more profits than either Xbox or GC. Gamecube is the most inexpensive to manufacture, making it the cheapest system to buy. Lots of people are buying GC because it actually has some party value to it. You just have to look past the fact that there are some cutesy looking characters. Sony has the most profit, Nintendo has the second most, and M$ has the least. I think this may happen with the 360 as well. It seems even more expensive to manufacture, and nearly all of the people (at least on Engadget) are going to wait for a price drop or two or even three. unless they price it at some rediculously high cost, they're not going to be making as much money as they could be.
