Well, technically no, it isn't what made Starfox great. That would be the FX chip.

Simple.

Give us the choice.
Original or New and Improved to download.
Hell, give us both, and make everyone happy.

i agree with liquidd. there should be an option in the game menu that could alow you to pick the retro style or a prettier style. because while super mario allstars had better graphics, sometimes you just want a completely old-school experience for maximum cliche.

I definately find the original versions more appealing... better nostalgia. Besides,
"updating the graphics" seems like an excuse to be able to charge more for the games... balls.

Maybe we're all forgetting the previous information/rumors about Revolutions supposed 3D capabilities. In light of this recent announcement, and Revolutions supposed lack of HD support, I would guess the 3D capablities to be at the root of these annoucements.

Maybe they are just talking about anti-aliasing and other kinds of filtering, not totally overhalling the games, which would both be time consuming and expensive. N64 games especially would really benefit from some AA.

No, it should be left as it is without any changes, well except to fix bugs. I can live with adding FMV ala Chrono Trigger games, but enhanching the graphic is a bit too much for me.

yeah the origional classic graphics need to stay with no updating of the actual game. since after all the origional graphics/gameplay are the reason we'd be playing these old games anyways isn't it...

however running the games through filters such as anti-aliasing should be an option

I don't care one way or the other. I can play all these games right now on my hacked Xbox.

No Mod Chip Needed!

I don't think the graphics should be updated, I love the old graphics. I was a bit dissapointed when the Final Fantasy remakes used Super Nintendo graphics, I wanted the original 8-bit glory. The only time I like re-done graphics is on the beginning 3-D games. If you ever played Road Rash for Playstation, try playing it again now, and you'll find your eyes screaming in pain. The original Smash Bros. could use a makeover after getting used to Melee, but then again I don't really think I wanna play the original Smash Bros.

It should be noted that Super Mario Kart also relied on asupplemental processor in the cartridge.

I have very mixed feelings about producing enhanced version of these games. While some games in 3D on the N64 could be transparently enhanced under emulation without a lot of recoding, there isn't much to be done for the 8-bit and 16-bit games other than largely rewriting them from scratch and that inevitably means a higher price for the download. For the sort of investment I'd far rather see those enhanced versions as GBA/DS releases while the emulated stuff on Revolution is kept very inexpensive thanks to running original code. Most of the NES Classics series would have been far more attractive if it had just been given the Mario All-Stars treatment. Nostalgia is all well and good but some things are just too ugly to tolerate anymore.

Not true. It would be trivial, I would think, to equip the emulator to use 32bit RGBA tiles as a replacement for the original tiles. Then all you'd have to do is upgrade the graphics and leave the game logic alone. It would mean that the emulator would have to detect which game is running so that it would know how to map the original pattern tables to the new ones.

Is is possible, that because the Revolution will have to run an emulator to run these games, that the user will get an option to turn these graphical upgrades on and add different filters, like the ones in the Zsnes emulator? Obviously, the emulator that will be run will have all three systems integrated into its being.
That's just my two cents worth.

Graphical upgrades should definitely be optional, and I also like the idea of putting the updated versions on portable systems... If you do choose to download the graphically upgraded version, it should be filtered for bugs and glitches as to increase the 'enjoyability' factor. I think it would be cool if we could maybe put a 'CD burner' (something of the sort) attachment onto the Rev. and be able to burn the games onto a disk... that would be very interesting but would probably be a bad idea for Nintendo considering you could just sell the copies to make a profit in bulk... this is, of course, just a thought...
