Nintendo Revolution ad to satisfy your morning rumor fix
Blake from Infendo sent in this potential pic of a leaked Nintendo
Revolution ad, supposedly originating from an anonymous source deep within the bowels of Nintendo's marketing
department. It certainly has the makings of an ad, such as, erm… the Nintendo logo, for one. And the illuminated front
profile of the system, for another. And a thinly veiled reference to the Xbox 360 to boot! Of course, it's the date
itself that is by far the most promising feature here. Unless Sony's vague reference to a Japanese PS3 launch in spring
2006 holds true, this ad would seem to imply that Nintendo would be second out of the gate rather than third, and,
assuming that the Revolution is released first in Japan, could potentially mean that Revolution development is much
further along than any of us anticipated. But wait a sec, have dev kits for this thing even been distributed yet? We
know Iwata said that the system would be easy to program for, but developing a AAA title on brand-new hardware
utilizing a revolutionary technology in less than eight months? Still, we can hope…
Oh, and is it just me, or did anyone else automatically think "The Ring" upon first glance at this ad? Before you
die, you see the box…

I have video from a person that sneaked into the - 'private' - Nintendo retail conference(not to be confused with Press conference).
The retail conference had more information than the Press one. He also heard the date 'Spring 2006' being chucked around. So this ad's is plausible, however it is easy to fake such things. Nintendo seem to be going for a surprise release. Anyway I have footage from retail conference if you don't believe me.
Ruari @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
LISTEN TO THIS :) I shall tease you with the sounds first. Of the leaked private retail conference video.

Huh? @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
So Nintendo is going after the X360 instead of PS3? This is an uneven war, two Japanese Co. going after an American Co. Shouldn't the big N worry about the PS3 since it's the leader in the market instead of trying to regain 2nd? If this generation the big N doesn't do well, I think they might let Sony bough them out since they're both Japanese Co. and seem to dislike M$ so much. If this ever happen, let's hope they get what they are asking, F-Bomb on their a$$!
Ruari @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Possibly concurrently the motto Think Outside the Box refers to not thinking of the tech specs of the console (whats in the box) but the interface which is outside the box.
Just my 2 cents.
ill trooper @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Wow. Amazing! Nice one, Ruari! Sounds like they're gearing everyone up for a leaner (weaker?) box with 'quick and fun' emphasis... Maybe more games will come out, more often. I have my doubts, but I always buy the Nintendo box too.
Eric @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Well, games were developed for Gamecube really quick. A great example of this is Rogue Squadron 2. On the bonus content on the disc they say that they made the game in 9 months! That is simply amazing considering what the game is! It is still in the top 5 bext looking games on Cube and it was released at the beginning!
Ruari! THATS AWESOME! Please post the video!
KD @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Here's the video it's from Nintendo's press conference from E3
you can watch it here on gamestops website.

Jess @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
KD the E3 press conference tells you hardly anything.
That two minute audio clip told me more about revolution than anything mentioned in that conference.
I am quite interested in their "new friends" line, does this mean we're gonna see a slew of new properties?
And a march 2k6 release gets me overly excited.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Why are we leaking the press conference? He said Retail Conference, something different.
Anyways, Rogue Squadron wasn't that great at all. In fact if they half-assed more games like that Revolution's release I'll be greatly let down. I was/am actually looking forward to the Revolution, much more so than the X360. I hope the controls are fluent and natural on the Revolution though.
March 2006 eh? 2006 is gonna be a fun year.
Ruari @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
No it's from the Retail conference, be happy to watch the Press Conference again. He doesn't say what it says on the sound file I gave. p.s the movie clip is 600 mb in total. I'm trying to shrink it, but that takes much time.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
leaking = linking. sorry, just got off work and i'm tired.
Chris Kalan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Okay, this may just be fluke, but is it just me, or does anyone else think the shadow in the back of the ad could be someone wearing the helmet thing in all the rumours we've heard about Nintendo ON.
Justin @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
"this may just be fluke, but is it just me, or does anyone else think the shadow in the back of the ad could be someone wearing the helmet thing in all the rumours we've heard about Nintendo ON."
Well actually my man, I think it's the shadow of the person... you know, taking the picture. It's cute that you dream though!
Zeo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Christopher7xii: You're an idiot if you think Rogue Squadron was halfassed.
Philip Wesley @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Hey, anyone wanna take bets on if one of the "new" franchises will be Riqua? Or a 3D console release of a Starfi game?
Also, I think some of the launch titles, if they aim for that time schedule, will be abandoned Game Cube titles like Catnapped, or Mario 128. Wouldn't surprise me. Of course, I remember playing Resident Evil Zero, and Dinosaur Planet on the N64, and Resident Evil GBC back when it was a port of the first game. *sighs*
I want the rest of that conference.. in audio at least.. so I can dissect it.
Stephen @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Well, it's believable. I mean, the poster has curvature so eh...
ssj27gohan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
"But wait a sec, have dev kits for this thing even been distributed yet? We know Iwata said that the system would be easy to program for, but developing a AAA title on brand-new hardware utilizing a revolutionary technology in less than eight months? Still, we can hope"
Actually the Revolution is supposedly going to be able to be developed for like the Gamecube was... In other words the development process won't be much different than the Gamecube development process. So in theory companies could be making more powerful games than the Gamecube can handle (We know Revolution will be stronger) on the Gamecube engine so they will be able to take it to Revolution. That's just my 2 cents.
Blake @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
The fuzzy image in the background was said to be the head of the person taking the monitor image. Read the update at: http://www.infendo.com

I am waiting for that compressed video. :p
Raoul Teeuwen @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
This is spooky man: i just paused a film (so my 8 year old daughter wouldn't see it) and went upstairs to do my daily scan of sites, read this item on Joystiq ... guess what movie i was watching. The Ring! Really...
Big B @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Uhh, doesn't the catch phrase seem kind of like the fast food, "Think outside the bun"? And what's up with the middle part of the logo? I don't remember seeing that in the pictures.
vidGuy @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
"Think outside the box" is not a new saying. Thinking outside the bun was a spinoff of the cliche done by Taco Bell, as in taco shell or tortilla rather than a bun. The use of it here, as someone mentioned, is to get the focus off the machine itself (spec wise), where Nintendo doesn't want to compete, but to 'outside', as in the controller. Just more emphasis on what they have already focused on.
The controller better be the best thing ever or they will need to rethink this marketing.
Donlo @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
I seem to remember someone at Nintendo saying they were going to beat Sony to market. A March 2006 would support that, and since development for the revolution is supposedly like the Gamecube, it wouldnt take very long to adapt once the controller is finalized.
nnnnnnnnnnnnn @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
"Okay, this may just be fluke, but is it just me, or does anyone else think the shadow in the back of the ad could be someone wearing the helmet thing in all the rumours we've heard about Nintendo ON"
The N-GAME MUST DIE!
bamzam229 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
"Think outside the box"=out the TV?
The shadow part might be just a person looking at at a television that's on...maybe not a TV either...outside the box...projection?
The controller thing might be what they're referring to as well.
norebonomis @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
didn't nintendo say a long time ago that you would be able to connect a computer monitor to the revolution? i think we will see a gamer's main position from the living room to a den or office closer to the pc. for downloads. connection. grr. when in nintendo going online. sneaky bastards.
Lansing @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Well, Nintendo better release whatever they are hiding before the xbox360 comes out or else their intended hype will miss possible buyers who are looking at what system to buy.
Not to mention this hype may backfire if Nintendo doesn't deliver something extraordinary. Think of the backlash Nintendo would get if the controller were just an analogless piece of crap with a little touch screen on it. -
My brother has a DS and I have a PSP and I've played them both, the little analog stick on the PSP is better for gaming than the touch screen, not as innovative but still better.
mike @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
"Think outside the box"=out the TV?
------
well.. they will release right before ps3.. so at this point the xbox will have been out for a while.. that's the BOX part..
Jake Fry @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Man rauri, my hat goes off to you.
You remember a few weeks ago when in an interview, Miyamoto said the Revolution controller wasn't done yet? And even before that, at E3, Miyamoto said they knew what the revolution in the controller is. Miyamoto said in the more recent one that theyre still trying out new technologies and seeing how they work. So the revolutionary aspect has been decided, but there is still going to be even more new technologies. I'm thinking the added extras are gonna be things like a built in mic, gyroscope, things like that.
Adam Schlosser @ Dec 18th 2005 10:05PM
Nintendo Revolution. I say is THE best system that is out of the new ones (Xbox 360, Nintendo Revolution, PS3). I mean, look at it... Look at what the PS3 and 360 can do that the Revolution can't do? And are you going to say that it may not have the best graphics? Your assuming that because of the Gamecube. It doesn't have every fueture that the 360 does? Ask yourself, are you really going to use those feutures? Like on the old Xbox? How many times did you just sit down and listen to music on your old Xbox anyway? Just please think about all the feutures that you are, and aren't going to use... That's why I say Revolution for every cause!
