Sony has dropped the pricing requirement on its Platinum series of best selling games. Retailers worldwide can now
retail these popular Platinum games at around a third less than they were previously able to. However, the SRP
(standard retail price) is unchanged from £19.99, so whether or not games retailers decide to reduce prices or not is
up to them. An article over at Euro Gamer said that Brits could see £14.99 platinum games, or 2 for £20 deals in the
near future. It's also possible that some platinum releases could end up as cheap as £9.99.
This announcement looks like giving the PS2 retail market a boost over the summer season and could force Nintendo and
Microsoft to lower prices in response. The worldwide initiative will start to take effect in the coming weeks.
