Kaz Hirai gave an interview to US gaming mag 'EGM' in which he talks about Sony's aims for the PS3 as an online
console. Apparently Kaz thinks that web surfing from your console will be possible with the Playstation 3, due to the
console having a USB port which you can plug a keyboard into (erm, don't most USB keyboards have like a 1 meter cord?).
Also he thinks the emergence of HDTV will allow people in the lounge to actually see the content being displayed on the
screen (as opposed to regular TV which is appauling for web browsing). Regarding a Music and Movie download service Kaz
is very vague. Stating; "Once we have the infrastructure and we have the technology, then you're good to go".
Whether this will happen anytime soon is hard to tell as the infrastructure is based purely on broadband take-up across
the world.
Finally, Kaz managed to continue the three way boxing fight that we
reported on recently. In a low left hook against Microsoft
he criticizes them for placing all their eggs in the online basket (obviously referring to Xbox Live!). If we hear
about Microsoft's response to this attack, we'll let you know.
[Thanks, JamesO]
