Sonic to spin-dash onto the Xbox 360/PS3?
Gamespot has confirmed that Sega has struck a deal with Microsoft and Sony to bring "a classic Sega franchise" to their respective consoles. They've stopped short of announcing that it'll be Sonic, but that's a given since Sonic pretty much defines Sega. I'm glad they've chosen not to tie the deal into one specific console, although the failure to mention Nintendo is worrying. Hopefully other big names in the gaming industry won't forget the Revolution when announcing possible classic game updates. Another thing to think about is whether this could lead to a PSP version of Sonic appearing in the future. If it'll be coming out on Sony's future flagship console, why not it's current handheld? Either way I'll take any chance I can get to kick Doctor Robotnik's ass!

This is the same story thats been reported as Virtua Cop tho. They're just talking about them signing secret level.

one more reason why to just buy a 360.

Apart from the fact that any Sega game that comes out for next-gen will be released on the PS3 as well. This isn't a 360 exclusive.

So yesterday it was Virtua Cop and today it's Sonic.
Gotta love the internet for news.
I don't care either way. I'll play either one.

in other words you dont have to wait an entire year to get this game.

A new 2D Sonic game for the PSP would rock. Though it would also be nice to see a 2D Sonic game on the current consoles. Classic game-play with advanced graphics would rock.

I want to see what will happen with with Sega and their 2K sports lineup.
I can's say Sonic will make me decide one way or another... it's just not my bag, baby.

No one can, because they don't even know what the fuck it is yet.

Just so you guys know, I'll be deleting any comments with personal attacks. First of all they're off topic and second of all they're not very pleasant to read.

While I would agree that a resucitation of the classic Sonic series (i.e. along the lines of Sonic and Knuckles) would be excellent, let's face it. Every 3D Sonic game after Adventure 2 has, quite simply, sucked.
As for the 2K Sports lineup, as asked above, SEGA have sold that license to TakeTwo. So we can quite well rule that one out.
jc @ Dec 18th 2005 9:41PM
Oh wow... where was I that week.
It appears take2 bought them for only 24million, what a deal (visual concepts and kush games).
Here is somthing interesting tho...

According to their website, they are going to release X360 games before the console is even on the shelves (Full Auto).

# what makes you think this is a launch title it will probably come out after the ps3 has been released.
Adam @ Dec 18th 2005 9:41PM
No... the console will be available in November, November is Fall... hence Fall 2005. Full Auto will be a releast title.

I'm of the following that believes that Sonic should stay 2D. The 3D Sonic games don't capture the sense of speed and style that the original series did. Giving characters a gun does not help either.
Can someone tell me when the next 2D sonic game is coming? I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
Chris Norman @ Dec 18th 2005 9:41PM
Erm - where have you been this generation? Sega has been publishing just about every new Sonic game for all of the major consoles (i.e. Sonic Heroes). And there's a new Sonic proper game already confirmed and in development for the DS, so I wouldn't worry too much about the Sega-Nintendo working relationship.
Conde @ Dec 18th 2005 9:41PM
Sega Needs to just come outta nowhere with a fat huge console that takes up half ur living room and is so far ahead of the other consoles it makes u crap yourself.
...*Sigh*... i miss those good ol' Sega Saturn/Dreamcast/Genisus(etc.)... Days...

I just setup a Pluto Home system (smarthome + media server, plutohome.com, free open source). It’s really cool. It has a streaming movie server, music server, pvr. Plus it does home automation and controls a/v equipment too. There’s only 1 problem…
You designate 1 PC to be the server; they call it the core. It exposes a network boot image for any other PC in the house, so your PC becomes dual purpose—normal pc, or net boot and it’s a set top box. You control it with Bluetooth mobile phones or web pads. And all the set top boxes in the house work together. Your media even follows you as you move from room to room if you keep the phone on. The problem is I don’t have enough media pc’s for all the rooms in my house, and buying a full PC for each room is too expensive. Plus there’s no video cards for the PC that have component video output—which is the only way I can get HDTV into my tv.
The X-Box seems perfect as a media director. It’s a PC inside, right? So why couldn’t it boot like normal as an Xbox, or net boot as a pluto media director? Then it would be part of a whole house solution that did everything. I could even use the Xbox to turn on my sprinklers if I wanted, and do all sorts of stuff with it. Plus, since Pluto gives it a network boot image, space is no longer an issue—all the software could be stored on the main server. And the XBox has component video and it’s quiet and cheap.
Does anybody have an idea if it would be possible to use the XBox as a media director like that, doing a network boot? Then I could just buy a few of the XBox’s rather than having to buy regular PC’s.
