If you've ever wanted to command an army spread over a continental area, then here's your chance. Gamespy has a four page preview of the game 'Supreme Commander'. Bucking the trend of strategy games getting smaller in focus, the guys over at Gas Powered Games will be going big. We're talking collosal tanks being dwarfed by gigantic spiders with lasers being dwarfed by stupidly massive battleship aircraft carrier hybrids which fire shells the size of cars. The units will be so large that nuclear ordanance will be considered conventional! To help players manage the vast scale of the game there'll be plenty of automation as standard. Units will defend and repair bases automatically, planes will rearms and refuel themselves and submarines will attack enemy units in, oh I dunno, that direction. As for micro-management you'll still be able to control geeky factors like whether to use 'active' or 'passive' radar when sweeping the terrain with radar. No release date has been announced, so we'll have an indefinite time to wait until we can totally annihilate the world. Blast!
[Thanks, Brent]
