These days if there's even the tinest smidgen
of new information about the Revolution controller there's usually a storm of controversy over whether or not it's
legit. However, this time the information comes from the mouth of Nintendo president Saturo Iwata himself. He spoke to
the UK paper 'The Guardian' last week about Nintendo's new console and it's revolutionary controller. Nothing too
informative but it does reveal what sort of controller they're hoping to create. Reggie says that "there are too many
buttons and sticks on controllers for novice players, which is likely to discourage them from ever playing games at
all". Apparently he wants the Revolution's controller to be accessible to everyone and he really wants people to "feel
like they want to touch and play with it". Luckily that last comment is in context because otherwise I'd be
giggling.

Nintendo peaked at the time that Ocarina of Time was released, it has gone steadily down hill since then, especially when Sunshine came out. However, if the Revolution is truly revolutionary... Then that may be the peak of Nintendo.

I'd rather have Zelda, Mario, Metroid with a brand new revolutionary controller than a bland "we cant think of anything, so we'll make something thats been done decades before and copy Nintendo for the generation after" company with Pro Evo, Kill all Humans, Splinter Cell etc.
Nintendo have seen rivals come and go since the 80's. you honestly think that Sony and Microsoft are going to stop them? Whilst Nintendo are making profit and listening to its fans the whole Nintendo experience is going to be enjoyable.

Now if Nintendo were REALLY smart they would forget about any dumb-ass touchpad and model the new controller after the awesome Dreamcast controller complete with a first party SHENMUE type game-now THAT would be a revolution! Put that plumber out to pasture for keeps!

Oh...Nintendo WILL suck...BIG TIME. You know why? 'cause EA's left too. Yes...I said EA GAMES has left too.

I can't wait for the day Metroid and Zelda become multiplatform franchises,if the rumor is true. Can you imagine playing Metroid on the 360? Sure would give old Halo a run for the money!

What are people saying about the controllers? "Oh no, not enough buttons!" How do you know what the right amount of buttons is? You're just comparing it to consoles like the PS2. Nintendo's new strategy seems to be "Forget everything, let's give the public something new." Take the DS for example. Touch screen on a handheld. It's something new on the market, right? So the Revolution will be something different again (hence the name). It doesn't matter if it can't play standard multi-port games- it's not gonna be a standard console.

i believe that Nintendo is going down the correct path about being tight-lipped about Revolutions Controller. That is evident from this discussion alone. If u want ppl to talk about ur product tell them nothing about it. All across the net ppl are discussing Nintedo's future as if Nintendo themselves dont know what it may be, and that is exactly what Nintendo wants. The more ppl talk about the Revolution the more ppl will have interest in it.

#110 and #104 are BOTH right-and guess where EA GAMES has gone? YES,they have gone into a multi-year contract with VALVE [you know, HALF-LIFE,etc] THE BEST OF THE BEST FOLKS!! This is why N is betting all its ponies on the handheld market [a wise move] Nobody will touch them there! Sorry, fanboys, but true....

I want to start with something that may only be true among my friends, but I feel is a big part of what nintendo offers. I find that people buy nintendo consoles for titles that are exclusive to nintendo. First party titles are what drives nintendo's sales generation after generation. So naturally my thoughts on EA leaving are that I'll play madden on PS3, and if i had to choose, I'd pick Zelda over madden anyday.
As far as the controller goes, I think you forget the innovative people that work at nintendo. I have faith in the minds that have created games like mario, zelda, and metroid.I think shigeru miyamoto is a genius, and I don't think he is out of good ideas yet. It's almost impossible to pass judgement on something that you can't see and play with. I was a skeptic on Windwaker, but although i'm much more excited for the newest zelda, windwaker was still fun.
Finally, I think part of the beauty of nintendo is that they don't care about being number one anymore. They simply want to deliver an experience that is fun and will involve the gamer in a natural and encompasing way. If you're someone who needs a system like 360 or ps3 then buy one, you don't need to bash nintendo. I own ps2 and gamecube, and they are both awsome for their own purposes. I wouldn't want to see the new final fantasy anywhere else but ps3, but i also wouldn't want to see the new mario anywhere else but revolution. So, if you're just going to bash and complain about nintendo, then it's probably not your system and i'm sure that's fine.
PS: For the record Peter Molyneux who garners a lot of respect in the gaming world has seen the controller and said not to count nintendo out. Even if you are the biggest blogging internet scouring nerd on the face of the earth, your opion is trash to me compared to Molyneux so I am one "fanboy" who is still hoping for the best.

No,no! I am not trashing N by any stretch! I'm only being realistic and not viewing this only in a rose colored hue. This is a situational thing that can either turn out very very good or be a complete disaster! There is no gray-you simply cannot please everybody! I have all three systems and I tend to buy [if multiplatform] games for the Cube. Tell you why-operationally the Cube is superior to the other 2 for the mere fact it does not plug up with dust [the lens is handy to wipe off where as you have to "pull the pan"on the other 2 machines-I'm sure everybody knows the ritual! So no, I'm not flaming N in fact I'm looking forward to buying the REV as well as PS3 and 360. I'm just hoping N doesn't go too wild in the street with the controller-keep it within the realms of reason [the conventional controllers DO work well!]

#112 is probably right about chosing what the hell you like and all that noise but I mean COME ON!!! How many more MARIO games can we get? I loved Nintendo 'cause of all the new stuff it gave us + some pretty kewl 3rd party stuff. Now, its just sequels all over the place(Mario DDR,Mario Soccer,Mario Baseball,Mario Tenis,Mario kart DD,Mario 64 DS,Mario kart DS,Mario pinball,Mario Sunshine,Super Mario World(the remake),New Super Mario Bros...gawd)Even though these games are not bad, there's just not much variation. If we don't bitch at Nintendo, they won't do anything about it. Nintendo right now is like a football player who has moved to a new school and is feeling intimidated by the new team.It is contended with being the underdog even though it has the potential of being great.
And there is that new "we focus only on the fans" thing. If that crap was working, then sales wouldn't be going down. Have you been to a store to buy GCN games lately? There's usually very little to nothing on shelves. They're just trying to cover up for all the laziness by saying that. NINTENDO, GET OFF YOUR SORRY BUTT AND DO SOMETHING BEFORE YOU END UP LIKE SEGA.
Oh and BTW, that controller won't do shit.Shut up about the buttons.Remember the Dreamcast? Remember how "next-gen" it was for its time? Remember the errors Sega did? Notice how nintendo seems to be doing almost the same thing?......History is there but people just REFUSE to learn from it...

# 108, i think the reason nintendo is being so tight lipped is so that sony and (not so much M$ as it cant change its tech now) dont try to copy their new technology like they always do. Nintendo is always the innovator and basicly sony and M$ just copy and improve upon nintendo's innovations. Although i do admit, the cell prossessor is a innovation, but it can be argued its more suited not for games.

I still think the new controller is going to be a touch pad device that you jam down your pants and use hands-free while gyrating wildly about on an inflatable dance pad keeping time to some raunchy Parappa music. That would be a challenge!.......or something.

#104 and #112 wake up.............
EA said that their main focus will be on the 360 and PS3, they are not dropping the big N. That would be dumb to make a statement like that b4 the public reaction to the revolution.
#114 wat developer doesnt do that. Madden 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 wats the difference????
updated roster.
I like seeing mario's face on anything. It shows that he has passed the test of time and can do it all. You'll never see sonic do anything but run fast.
Also nintendo is the only company that profits from the start. Sony and MS have to wait atleast a year to see any sort of profit and MS lost way too much money in this generation and I think the way sony is going now with its PS3 is gonna do the same ( i am not against the PS3 or 360 in any way cuz i will be playin Halo 3 and GTA..................but thats after I finish Zelda revolution lol)

Nintendo sets the benchmark for all the other console devs, and im sure the rev controller will push gaming forward again.
What worries me though, is things like what ninty's president said about "games are becoming more violent, and this is alienating newcomers"
Remember what happened when they brought out mortal kombat? Great playability, green blood.
I'd like to see the likes of GTA on the revolution, nintendo do everything just a little bit better. Apart from giving us older gamers mature - content games.
I only hope that they supply to the older gamers and not give us just 3 great games a year and give in to the 'cash cow' pokemon market in japan.

Well,I dunno..A couple of months ago I'm sure I spotted controller ports [identical to GC] on an early back view prototype view of the REV[there were 3or4 pics I think] I checked it out again 2or3 wks later and no ports [I suspect they were hidden behind a hatch]I know they were there, because I visually compared them to my GC and they were identical. Does anybody else remember seeing this....?

On the other hand, i would sell my revolution if it came out with 5 Mario games...

let's look at this from Nintendo's point of view,if they were to manipulate each indivdiual form of reality and sustain some sort of balance between energetic radiation and photosynthesis, every molocule and polygon would emerge violently and submerge any process of thinking within our minds eye!

The Nintendo Revolution sounds cool. You have the ability to connect the Revolution with the DS, can download original nintendo games, and more. But the controller doesn't sound that great. Rumors say that there will just be one anolog stick, A,B,X, and Y buttons, L and R shoulder buttons, start, and select buttons. There will be a touch screen on it. There are not that many buttons on the controllers. There is no anaolog stick to move the camera around, and it will get annoying to use the touch screen to do it. It taks much longer. Play Mario DS, and you will realize that it takes a bit longer to move that camera. The game cube controller was good, but so far my favorite controller has been playstation. But I like nintendo the most, and I hate X box. Microsoft took Rare from nintendo so I hate microsoft now.
There is a plan going around to get Rare back to nintendo.
Here is a copy of the plan.
Microsoft bought Rare from nintendo. Rare should make games for nintendo, not microsoft.

After that, contact nintendo, and tell them they need to get Rare back. The link to nintendo is

Scroll down to general questions & comments, and click on e mail. Put the topic as Game and Software related. Tell nintendo they need to get Rare back. Make sure you put it in your own words, so all the messages are different.
Spread this plan to as many people as you can. Rare must be brought back to nintendo.
NOTE: If all the messages look the same, the companies will only think it is only 1 person sending all this!

The controllers for the Revolution have just been unveiled and this could either make or break Nintendo. I personnaly think that they hit the jackpot with incorperating all of their ideas into one piece of machinary, as well as adding some new features. I'm just not sure how the general public will view this "unique" controller. Maybe this could get Nintendo back on top. We can only hope.

Umm, i hate to disagree, but i have to let out what i feel. The N64 controller was fine the way it was, as a matter of fact, i dont think they added a single button, when they converted from N64 format, to Gamecube format (except 4 C buttons turns into 1 C joystick) And i can remember back in the day, when i got my first Gamecube, it took me about a month to make the jump form N64 handeling, to Gamecube handeling. I mean, They switched the damn B button, with the A button! WTF! So now, in my eyes, all i see is the same thing over again. It may "SEEM" there is nothing wrong with the new controller, but there is
its different, and will take alot of getting used to. Personally i cant see myself playing the new Smash Bros on that little "dvd remote" looking thing.
but if thats what there gonna make, then let it be...-_-

Good new everyone. I'm about to make the neysaying feel real stupids right now. I have confirmed 100% straight from Ign.com that in a recent talk with nintendo that one of the so called add on's for the revolution controller is a standard controller cradle/shell. I'll break it down like this. The standard controller will have a slot the revolution controller will slide into (like the memory cards slid into the dreamcast controller) and wala, kick butt controller. Plus you'll still get all the cool features from rev control even while it's slid into the standard control(such as the bluetooth motion sensor technology). So don't worry, nintendo has not gone completely mad. And third parties won't be alienated by the controller. That's why so many developers such as EA and Ubisoft have come out pledgeing their full support, even square-enix and konami. (look up metal gear creator Hideo Kojima high praise for nintendo). His qoute of "Wow. They really did it" mean a whole hell of a lot to a huge gear fan like me.

There is no way that I or any other person over the age of 12 is going to run about the living room kicking into the air and jumping around like a lunatic. People want to sit down and relax with their mates with a normal control pad and a cup of tea. If anyone wants to play football they usually join a team or go down the park with a real football. Any adult that stays at home to volley their furniture about has probably got a few problems.

To no. 130:
You do have a point but remember that the average gamer is 23 years old, meaning thats where the majority of the cash is for nintendo.
Course newbie gamers have to find the system accessible, but ninty focusing their marketing attention to 12 yrs and under is to ignore the ones who put them in the 100th biggest company position today.
Ninty's weakness for the last 10 years is to not fill shelves with enogh third party games, and alienate the older gamers.
What could be wrong with a good mix of 18+ games and ninty classics like zelda and mario?

What could be wrong with a good mix of 18+ games and ninty classics like zelda and mario?

This is for all of N fans and Rev buyers an idea on how the Rev controller would work and on how it would change the game industry forever. I as a game creator already have tons of ideas and new stuff, I won't say wich company I work for but here it goes my vision.
boxing games? a Punch Out comeback? imagine boxing games on PS3 and Xbox 360 they are going to be similar, same control only better graphics. The Rev would provide us real boxing experience, ex; holding 2 Rev controllers one on each hand like if you were wearing a pair of boxing gloves and you move ur hands down and u dodge a punch and you swing and throw a hook and the Rev would know this and you see your self actually boxing with another one and online playing? isn't that better? now imagine Resident evil 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360 same gameplay but probably some add futures on each console. Now with the Rev controller using it as a flashligh in the dark and to shoot enemies in a very accuarate way and out of bullets? changet to knife and swing your hand like if you had a real knife in your hand and swing in at the damn zombie and kill his ass uh? Nice uh? much better gameplay then the other 2 consoles. Now Zelda thats a big question you guyr are probably wondering how to play it, lets say u hold 2 Rev controllers on each hand and one is your sword and on the other hand is your shield so you can block you enemis attack and attack with your sword like if you were a real warrior. making movement with the 2 controllers like if were using a elbow and with an arrow and bam.. and riding your horse with your left hand and you pull the controller backwards and the horse would stop and you would have your other hand to attack with the sword and riding the horse at the sametime. so that just an exp of millions of posiblities. The only true generation is the Nintendo Revolution, Nintendo changed the way we play games 20 years ago and is doing it again. Nintendo returns to glory....
Good luck guys

i like what jimbo has to say there. nintendo's lack of 3rd party games is hurting them bad. the revolution in my oppinion isnt the way to get them back, or more of them. i think that because if they dont already have the 3rd party support how are they gonna get it by making something totally new. i mean as a developer i would be a little scared about the way nintendo went with the controller. personal note i will be a buyer of the revolution i cant wait to see where these controllers take games.

After seeing the "Nintendo Revolting" controller, I say Nintendo still sucks and it always will. Just think of how tiring it will be for a skinny nerd like me who has no life and isn't in shape to play a sports game like MADDEN for say 4 hrs.....
....Gawd, I can't believe I was still hoping that Nintendo cudd do something about its "suckage".....
...nintendo sucks

i dont really know who plays a game using all the buttons but i dont. almost every game ive ever played really boils down to using two, or rarely one, button. everything else may have a function, but its occasional. a good game my use two buttons extensively throughout and i use maybe three of the others a few times in an hour, but its really rare ive played games relying on three or four buttons constantly in use. its EXTRA rare ive played games that i have to use ALL of the buttons equally. hell even halo doesnt require you to get all mashy with every button on the controller, just a few here or there. in fact the white and black button were almost pointless during the entire existance of the xbox, seeing minimal use that usually amounts to something the start button can do. if nintendo has the controller set up so a two buttons are easily available, and three or four are at hand then its done all it really should. if you want excessive control then consoles are obviously not your thing.
