The Inquirer has posted a couple of articles about the graphics card for the Xbox 360. Apparently IBM is now ready to start producing the chips (they're making them, ATI is designing them) at a clock frequency of 500MHz. Developers recently started receiving their 'full performance' machines based on the Xbox 360's architecture which already include ATI's R500 chip which will be part of the final Xbox 360 design. Interestingly the second article suggests that since the R500 is being produced so effectively at a 500MHz yield, it could leave open the possibilty of overclocking by intrepid gamers. I'm not exactly sure why people would want to do such a thing as all games will be developed for a fixed standard anyway. What would the point in getting a console game to run too well?
