1up has posted a preview on the upcoming
Bone: Out From Boneville game, based on the comic of the same name by Jeff Smith. The game will be released as a
series of four episodes, and will play very similarly to the old Lucas Arts adventure games (not surprisingly, many of
the people who made this game also made the stellar Grim Fandango and Monkey Island games). Don't expect a
technical achievement, but adventure enthusiasts (as well as anyone who enjoys phantasmagorical, comical stories)
should enjoy this. The adventure genre has had a hard time surviving in these times, where graphics reign supreme
over developer budgets.
However, there is a pretty costly catch: this plan to release 4-6 hour episodes at $20 apiece may be just the novel
business strategy to get developers to make more adventure games, but all in all, after four episodes this makes for a
16-24 hour adventure at $80, which is pretty heinous. Telltale is looking for ways to discount the games for
those who want all four, so hopefully it is a very generous discount. There's also tentative plans to consider
porting the game to Mac, and being a hardcore Mac user and adventure enthusiast, this news makes me very happy
indeed.
