If you think aerobatic pilots are crazy, imagine how nuts the guys that compete in the Red Bull Air Race are. The
idea behind air races is as follows; place a pilot in a super light, super powerful aerobatic aircraft and make them
fly around a 1400x400m course with a bunch of paired 19m high pylons which are only 10-14m apart. The pilots have to
fly through these pylons as fast as possible and the fastest 'lap' time wins. Place the tiny course in cities across
the world like San Fransisco, Budapest and Rotterdam with tens of thousands of people watching from below and you have
a recipe for disaster petrol/caffeine powered fun. You really need to take a look at some of the media
on the homepage to get a good idea of how insane this kind of sport is. For an even better impression check out their
interactive game with all the courses across the world. I'm gonna be checking out the UK event in August (I've already
got my ticket) so I'll be practising with the game in case they "lose" a pilot and need someone to entertain the crowd.
Naturally I'll also be drinking nothing but Red Bull until August. Zoooooooom.
