Though Neversoft has been garnering much attention lately for its other game, Gun, we cannot forget Neversoft's bread and butter, and that is the Tony Hawk skateboarding franchise. It is hard to remember that extreme sports game used to not be popular, and even harder to imagine that Tony Hawk has reached its seventh iteration already. Nevertheless, EuroGamer has some juicy tidbits regarding the upcoming Tony Hawk's Wasteland, where you will play a kid (customizable, as per usual) from the Midwest who has just come to 1980's Hollywood to make a living and gets mugged as soon as he arrives. With the help of a pink-haired girl named Mindy and your only remaining possession, a skateboard (what an amazing coincidence), you must roam around and solve missions to make some money and earn some fame in the skateboarding industry.
The game promises to be more non-linear, meaning you can go around anywhere you want to do whatever missions come your
way. The longer this franchise stays around, the more it resembles Grand Theft Auto with skateboards. Which
isn't necessarily bad, it's just an odd direction that has been evolving ever since Underground (and somewhat before
that).
This is set to be released on all current-generation consoles, including the portables, and the XBox 360 later this
year.
