Blind teen can beat you at Soul Calibur II
What else is there to say? A local boy from Sioux City, Nebraska has earned fame and attention through his keen ability to play Soul Calibur II without the aid of his vision whatsoever. He learned through endless trial and error, and likes to "freak people out by playing facing backwards" (Voldo, anyone?). His dream? Going to college for game design. This is just plain cool.
[Thanks, pete]

kudos to him!!! :d hope he does get into game design.
that is amazing.

just had a discussion with a friend of mine lately about how far blind people could get in competitive gaming. no question that they are out for shooters or rts, but in fighting games, especially those where you have only one axis of movement, they could be pretty big. all the attacks have their own sounds and actually you could react faster to an audio signal than to a visual on a colorful moving screen. try it.
Pureshooter @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
just unplug his controller, win, plug it back in, taunt.
HugeJuan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
the joke's on him. he was really playing et on the atari 2600. they just told him he was playing sc2.
Back_Lit @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
the article refers to the splattering of blood that appears in sc2. i've played sc2 enough to know that there isn't any blood whatsoever in the game. what is the point of talking about a feature that doesn't even exist?

Imp @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
don't be a dirty player.
use strategy.
play with the bongo controllers and create so much sound he can't hear it.

that deaf dumb and blind kid sure plays a mean soul cal.
Timmay! @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
actually, this was in egm a few issues back. i'd love to see what he could do with halo2.
Shane @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
i used to play my friends at street fighter 2 blindfolded... its doable if you have a set up stereo system, you can tell where on the screen they are, and about what kind of attack they are using... then just let your attacks fly. though in 3d that might be a different story, then again soul caliber ii is very kind to button mashers.
san @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
poor blind kid. he may have mastered soul calibur ii, but he still doesn't know where he's from. sioux city is in iowa.
l0tus @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
wow, he can button mash. amazing...!
Imp @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
did you know that in the us alone, there are dozens of towns and cities that share the same name?
it's a fact; knowledge is power!
Lampbane @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
god, people are mean.
if he goes to college for game design, i wonder what kind of games he would come up with. they'd be very heavy on sound and touch, probably. i find that fascinating.
chill @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
just mute the tv, they guy plays off the games sound...
Jason Zeidan @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
the guy doesn't necessarily hear the attacks, but probably the rumble pak in the controller.

i would appreciate it if you don't redicule this boy. he is a very well-gifted individual, and will most probably have the dream career you yearn for.

and for all knowledge there should be a little research. the paper reporting the story is in sioux city. iowa.
Vejadu @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
sioux city is on the border of nebraska/iowa. he could live in the nebraska side of sioux city while the newspaper could be located on the iowa side.
