Xbox 360 packaging details, A/V cables sold separately?!
—————-
UPDATE: Microsoft plans to include an HD-cable with a component AV adaptor in the initial Xbox 360
package.
—————-
During a recent Xbox Summit event, Microsoft displayed a mock retail package of the 360. The box was white and green—matching the console's color scheme—and featured a list of accessories that will be included inside:
-
Wireless controller
-
Hard drive (??GB)
-
Xbox Live headset
-
Ethernet cable
Mysteriously absent from this list is an A/V hookup (VGA HD, component AV, or S-Video) which, we are assuming, will be sold separately along with:
-
The play & charge unit (for controller)
-
Remote control
-
Wireless network adapter
-
Faceplates
-
Memory unit
-
Web cam
-
Quick charge unit
-
And additional controllers, headsets & hard drives
[Thanks, ster]

so, $299 plus a hundred bucks or so in basically mandatory accessories. ps3 is more like how now?
John Kepler Lewis @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
the controller charge unit sold seperately? come on now...
the a/v cables actually make sense, since there's so many inputs around nowadays, component, rca, coaxial, dvi etc...
Jon Wilk @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
i thought xbox 360 was going to be wireless out of the box. i think its a big mistake to make people start buying adapters to be able to use the much touted wireless functionality of the system
Rhine @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
wonder if the sony and nintendo will use batteries our rechargables and if rechargable theyw ill supply a recharger.
how much would ms charge for it?
Lansing @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
play and charge unit - this accessory lets you play with your wireless controller hooked to the xbox 360 while also recharging it.
w00t, now thats what i'm talking about!!!!!!
Dom @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
those are some of the ugliest hands i've ever seen.
Peter @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
re:#5:
if you're playing with a wireless controller and it's hooked up to the unit to be charged while in use, it's not really wireless at that point is it?
dark54555 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
sorry to spoil your fun, but the xbox360 will come with both composite and component cables, both of which will use stereo rca for an audio connection. a little research goes a long way, folks.
Adam @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
i don't trust a writer who says the x360 controller resembles the gamecube controller... it much more resembles the xbox 1 controller...
Blue Balloon @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
should it said xbox 360 or is that xbox 360?
Reggie Jack @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
it was confirmed over a month ago that the 360 would come with composite cables.
Morgon @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
i could also swear that they said at some point between its debut and now, that the remote control would be a standard inclusion in the box. maybe they just had a huge (gross) oversight in the packaging display.
i'm confused.
Yami Pegasus @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
the list doesn't include "power cable". i guess that we can only assume we need to cough up fifteen or so dollars to get one seperately.
seriously, though, the only reason they didn't list it is because it was kind of obvious. or because whoever made the list is an idiot.
HaloFreak1.5 @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
re:#7
the controler is still kind of wireless. the controller is still transmitting to the 360 it's just charging while you do it.
D @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
yea, microsoft confirmed at e3 that it will be able to output hi-def via component video cables included (and with rca connections for those w/out hdtvs), i believe it also included a optical audio jack for dolby digital sound.
Sharan @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
the jp gamecube didn't come with av cables. its just a japan thing though. i am sure in the eu and us we will get some kind of av cable.
Lansing @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
uhh re-#7 i was being sarcastic you idiot!
aj @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
dude ps3 is not more expensive, or at least not by much. $300 for xbox 360, controller, headset, ethernet cable. i dont see an ac adapet in there. i guess you have to buy a ac cable to turn it on then a/v cables to use the xbox , then you need the wireless adapter incase you aren't close enough to your router, then buy some $70 games the stupid gold membership which need to play online, the silver is just to trick ppl that they have an account. then webcam another controller for your brother. and they you get up to about $500 or more. somewhere around or less where sony said their ps3 would be except ps3 comes with everything and will last 10 years they claim so yea, i will go with ps3. xbox 360 doesnt have wireless built in, or bluetooth , or the highest hd support or blueray or hddvd, or anything so gay xbox go ps3!!!
djSyndrome @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
aj, if you think the ps3 is going to come with "everything", you're dreaming. neither the ps1 nor ps2 even came with a memory card, second controller, or cables beyond composite; what makes you think the ps3 will be any different?
also, as was stated above, this is for the *japanese* market, which regularly sells consoles without everything needed to set them up. when i bought my famicom there years ago, i also had to pick up an ac adaptor (1200y) and a stereo av cable set (another 1200y), pushing that 5200y famicom up to 7600y.
Spartacus @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
aj- as far as i remember, the inclusion of a headset makes 360 one of the most accessory packed console releases in a while, lol. the days when games were included with a system are long gone, and barebone systems are commonplace. ps3 will be upwards of $100 more expensive and you'll spend just as much in accessories for it, including games, lol.
nod @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
like any console has ever been shipped w/out cables. the 360 will come with component av hd cables. see:

CapTn_InSanO @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
this is just the game industry continuing to fleece us for more money. first pack in games dissapeared, then we only got one controller. soon after no more rf switch.
remember when cd first got popular on the sega cd and turbo grafx. they said its so much cheaper to produce without the cartridge you'll see a drastic decrease in cost. games are still $50 folks. gba/ds still uses a cartridge and usually only costs $30.
of course we rarely see the $80 game anymore (phantasy star ii cost $79.99 when originally released for genesis)
JPRacer @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
wow, aj is really stupid...
Shaun @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
i guess the power cord will be sold separately too, because it is not listed. jackass! the a/v cables in the box is common knowledge.
Boomhauer @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
why are there never any corrections?
it just goes to show that there's little accountabilty in a site which merely comments on bs info from other websites who also lack real accountability or integrity.
mztiklimit @ Dec 18th 2005 9:59PM
Of course the Xbox 360 will come with a/v cables and power cord. That is always standard.

Costco says the 360 will have a 20gb hard drive.

27--usually those prerelease store listings are less reliable than the various press releases. They are written by some one who was just given a list of specs and parts and told to make it sound interesting.
