Here's a mid-year update to our
January post on budget gaming rigs, just in time for the
back-to-LAN-gaming school season. Ars Technica has just come out with a guide to building your own
budget and performance systems for gaming.
The budget system weighs in at $1,228.60, but Ars Technica makes the mistake of continuing to recommend 1.44MB floppy disk drives. There's zero reason to encourage anyone to buy one of these things at $5.00 when just $5.00 more is enough to purchase a 64MB or 128MB USB drive. Someone please call Ars Technica and tell them 1971 wants their technology back.
The performance system will cost 3,138.15, not including shipping, handling and tax, which always tend to add up when you're building your own box out of components.
