Who'd have thought we'd see the day where firmware upgrades get their own reviews? These days whenever Sony ups the
version number on its PSP console firmware, there's a lot to talk about. Whether it's that the latest version of x/y/z
emulator stops working or Sony adds a web browser "with cache selection" to the official software, you can guarantee
it'll be talked about. If you're eager to learn what has really changed so you can decide whether it's worth the jump,
check out this mini review of the v2.0 firmware for PSP. It covers everything from the new web browser to how to setup
and change a custom desktop picture.
The one point I'm not quite sure on is the recommendation by the reviewers. They conclude by saying that people should
get the PSP v2.0 firmware because the PSP is not just about the games. This is a very ambiguous statement. Is a web
browser and some new customisation features really worth breaking compatibility with emulators and homebrew hacks?
What's really needed is a comprehensive examination of the changes Sony has made at the core level of the PSP OS. Of
course, we'd appreciate any experiences PSP owners have had with the new firmware in our comments thread. How has v2.0
affected your PSP beyond the superficial new features?
