"Conclusive proof that nothing has really changed since the puritans first arrived."

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I say we (that are in the USA) all pack up and jet over to England or Australia. They're not prudes like the Americans.

I'm sure that when the Puritans came over, porn was a multi-billion dollar industry.
America is prude in the worlds eye, but goddam if you can't get what you want.

Yet te politicians dont care at all about games like liesure suit larry, or the guy game.

If you ask me, that alone is proof that this is nothing more than them just trying to bolster their careers...if they truley care about the kids they would go after all the games with sexual content, not just the ones with easily recognizable names.

Define 'violence'.

Now define 'excessive violence'.

Violence, in one form or another and by one definition or another, is inherent in virtually every form of competition ever invented. Remove all violence and potential violence from games and you have no games -- video or otherwise.

Violence is inherent in videogames, you can't ban it unless you're willing to ban video gaming. What constitutes excessive, 'too realistic', or whatever upper standard one might set is a subjective matter. The ESRB was created to, in part, quantify and rate games based on what level of violence, gore, and realism were considered appropriate for various age groups.

Sex is not an *inherent* component of competition in general or video games in particular. One can ban sex in videogames (or make video games containing sex adult only) and not really affect the majority of video gaming by one iota.

Anyone who thinks this is simply a matter of Puritanism (which, granted, is alive and well worldwide) is either being supremely disingenuous or hasn't spent very much time considering the issue. Sadly, very few of those writing on the subject appear to have spent any time at all considering the underlying issues involved.
