Wow, didn't see this one coming
This would be neat for quick things like other player mentioned, leaving messages for other players, typing in the name of your charachter and such. Can't wait to see an actual photo of this, but won't be surprised if someone out there will hack up a nice rended in photoshop

This explains the mysterious connector on the bottom of the 360's controller.

well of course it has to have a keyboard attachment. How else are you supposed to to Ctrl+Alt+Del?

Forget what it says, read the specs for the camera... 640x480 at 8 frames per second... That sucks!

Oh yeah, back to the QWERTY thing. It's nice, but looks painful to your hands. Also, it's a mini qwerty keyboard so typing speed won't be all that great. Now, lets look at it this way. The XBOX360 is not a portable console, so why would you need a compact, uncomfortable keyboard to fit inside the controller?

my first thought was that it would slide out from inside the controller? meaning they were all fitted as standard?

Does anyone see any irony in this? Microsoft is
basically a closed PC with this new XBOX. How
hard will it be to use a real keyboard with it?
Im guessing not too hard, and it is all based on
the Power PC... meanwhile Apple has switched over
to Intel.. HUH??

what is this world coming too?

Personally I think MS knows the only way they
can win the video game wars is to basically
sell a their own hybrid "Windows PC" in sheeps
clothing..

I think someone already mentioned this, but this looks similar to the PS2 third party import version qwerty controller that came out years ago, except it fits better into the controller, though the keyboard is smaller

I remember the Lynx. However, I can't understand why this memory would have any influence on XBox 360 sales. Please enlighten me.

My bet is on this being attached to that bottom port. Most people dont know but that is a propritary USB connector. I used to have an old rio (s10?) mp3 player and it used this type of conenction to interface witht he conputer and headphones went in the center, heres a pic of that cable.

Thank you Joystiq for marking in red where to look. I don't think I would have found it otherwise.

i dont know, it looks really uncomfortable, and the 360 controller is actually pretty small, so the qwerty keyboard would be smaller (duh) and probably harder to get to. it does look like some add-on, dont know if they would actually go through with it.

and #51 i think thats also the port to charge the controller so it can stay wireless. i remember reading an article about it, so it isnt very mysterious at all.

A buddy and I often do the volunteer game testing at MS and he tested this QWERTY pad literally 3 years ago.. It was connected to a standard and a controller-s. The discussion was that it would be for MMORPG games so you could text chat with those not in your group. Looks like since there were no real MMO's on normal xbox that it was pushed to the 360.

with all the xbox360 "online community" and "entertainment revolution" M$ is talking about, a qwrety controller like this is just inevitable. if they want us to buy through the xbox, they have to give us an elegant & accurate way to communicate. it's a must also for MMORPG. I don't think it should be detachable though, I will be too clumsy.

very good :)

Wow. This has been known for a while.
"What about the headset? There's no need for a connector that fits into the MU slot since the Xbox 360 controller has a rear-mounted (as in gamer-facing) connection slot that takes a single headset or a text input device. "It's really up to the imagination—it's an input port that can be used for a various number of things," Ashley said. Then, he demonstrated how a palm-sized text-input device (TID) keyboard and a normal headset can connect with equal simplicity."

a TID is what it is called and it is stated here:
