IGN does its Top 100 Games of All Time

Any time someone throws up a Top 100, a lotta
fussin' and whinin' is sure to follow. Yeah, we agree with some choices, but a list that doesn't include the
original Legend of Zelda and relegates Final Fantasy VII to the #88 spot just doesn't sit right with us—I'm sure you'll
find your own glaring omissions and questionable ranks. Of course, these lists are all about controversy, why else make
them?
We figured you'd be most interested in IGN's Top
10, so here it is (from 10 to 1):

Such bullshit that FF7 was 88. I completely think that's bullshit. Some of this shit on the list that beat it was rediculous. And how come not a SINGLE megaman was on there, yet super mario brothers was on there in 3 forms? Can we say 'stuck on nintendo's nipple'?
Anyways, I REALLY don't agree with FF4 being higher than FF6 and FF7. Yeah, it was a lot of people's first, but it definitely was not the best done or most innovative.
I had some other complaints, but that stuck out the most. Oh, and wtf, SMB1 is first? Greatest game ever my ass. Also, how come EverQuest is NOWHERE on the list, considering that basically launched this entire MMO craze we're going through, and alone has sucked more player hours than any FRANCHISE ever has combined.

But yeah, this list is questionable. Mega Man 2 should be in the top 20.

There's never going to be a perfect top 100 list for anyone except the one someone makes for their own self. At least with this one it looks like the editors thought it through pretty well.

No Ogre Battle 64, no Shenmue, no Lunar. For shame. I'm not a huge fan of FF7, but even I know it's better than FF10.

Some of the the I can't argue with. Dune 2, StarCon 2, System Shock 2 and Fallout are PC games that I love and don't alway get recognized when put with consoles and arcaades. I am surprised at the amount of Dreamcast games listed.
What missing for me
Phantasy Star I
Arena/Daggerfall/Morrowind
The Sims
Roller Coaster Tycoon (without it there would not by the tons of tycoon games out there)
A little too much FF though.

Everquest didn't launch the MMO genre, Ultima Online did. And before there there were MUDS and other text based MMO's. All Everquest did was make it 3d.

IGN has sucked in ratings for the past few years. I've learned never to judge a game on how IGN rates it. So many games that weren't there or weren't anywhere near the proper spot on the list. IGN is only good for videos, plain and simple.

So glad to see Star Control II getting its due, along with many of the LucasArts adventure games, but I think Monkey Island and Loom definitely belong on the list. Also, I think SSX Tricky deserves a spot, though probably not too high on the list.

Now compare them. Where did I ever say anything about EQ launching the MMO GENRE? I said it launched the current MMO craze that is inhabiting PC gaming. Ya know, the reason there are 25+ MMO's being released within 3 years, and about 15 that have been released since 2001?
I love when people try to be smart asses by repeating what they've read on another forumwhen someone corrected them. I'm sure you'd be awesome at trivial persuit: game edition, but what you said had nothing to do with what I said... Thanks for "correcting" me though.

It astonishes me that the two decades that represented the launch of video, computer and console gaming are sorely under-represented. Surely at least one of Infocom's classic text adventures should be included, probably the Zork series, at the very least. I believe the list displays the age of the reviewers, not necessarily the quest for an "ultimate" and truly representative list.

I don't see the point in crying about Final Fantasy VII. It's not like it needs any help getting recognized. One that needed help was Panzer Dragoon Saga, partially because it was a much better game.
Also, Final Fantasy II(IV) being the highest ranked FF is the smartest Final Fantasy-related decision I've seen in years.
One more thing, the world doesn't and shouldn't revolve around Final Fantasy. Why not be happy that Super Metroid is quite high on the list? Maybe smile that Gunstar Heroes made it on? Or better yet, TIE Fighter?
However I will say that a lack of Phantasy Star II and NiGHTs was a bit of a downer. Come to think of it, I don't remember seeing Tekken 2 or Vagrant Story...but oh well. I still think it's a great list with different priorities from most.
Almost forgot, Resident Evil 2 would've been nice. Anyone else think so?
