The price of next-gen gaming keeps getting cheaper. For the first time ever, the price of 40-
to 42-inch LCD panels just dipped below $1,000, according to market research firm iSuppli as quoted by CNET.
Before you get too excited, realize that that's just the cost of the LCD panels alone. A complete 40-inch television is still expected cost about $2,500 at the end of this year.
The price drops are being driven by Samsung in particular, according to the report. Thanks to investments in some fancy new plants, Samsung is able to make larger LCDs for less money. We appear to be headed toward gaming nirvana: LCD panels are getting cheaper and competition between Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo will keep the console prices reasonable. Now if only the industry could only figure out how to keep next-gen game prices down.
