Electronic Arts has released the list of music to be featured in Madden NFL 06. For a
few years now, EA has used the soundtracks for its popular Madden series to sell more games, to inextricably link
"cool" with "video games" and to establish the company as a tastemaker with the coveted gamer demographic.
Here's an example: Madden 2004 featured the Blink 182 song "Down" from their (at the time) unreleased album Blink 182. The song became such a hit that radio stations were playing it off of the video game disc, according to an article at Gamerfeed.com. Having a disc jockey announce on air that he's playing the game off of the game disc because that's the only place that the song can be found is great for EA and even for the industry at large. The sooner we all get over that "games are for geeks" image the sooner more ladies start showing up in the games we love to play.
Here's the track list. We're relieved that the repetitive background track at Madden06.com wasn't an indicator of the music budget for the game.
