Yeah, they showed this on G4 yesterday. I'm almost embarassed to say I watch Attack of the Show (typing that name is embarassing in its self), but they showed the effect off and it was amazing. Nostalgia-central.

Do the stars turn into little birds if you hold down A and B as you launch the program?

Yeah, it seems like it's a neat novelty once or twice...but then it just means I'm waiting an additional 5 seconds for a program to load.

It'd be cooler if the applications got randomly generated boss text like:

"The application that defends the train

Quicktime Player"

Yup, it works. Baaaaaaad 80's cheese audio too. I'll see if I can get a sample of it. Screenshot of it loading Firefox, along with the preference panel can be found here (as well as plenty of other places by now).

I gave it a try myself and got a good laugh out of it. I doubt I'll be leaving it on all the time, but once in a while it'll be a fun way to start applications in OS X.

Any of you people here good with Mac X code?

If you did a couple alterations to the open sourced code, this would go to an "eh" app to something that people wouldn't delete.

Someone has to steal this idea and do a Windows version. This is too cool for a Mac. Sorry, it just is.

And a Linux version should be done too for fairness.

lol, nice bit of candy. They should add a few different old school modules like Sonic or Donkey Kong...

Would be way cooler with more variants to the music and also if they could some how de-res the application icon into craptastic 8-bit splendor. Definitely gets old in short order but amusing.
