3rd Mortal Kombat movie to film in Louisiana
Let me just say this: I really liked the first Mortal Kombat movie. I can still watch it, laugh at the
80's-style music and haircuts (yes, it came out in the mid-90's, but that didn't seem to stop Liu Kang from having a
fluffy mullet), but really get into the fighting scenes. Mortal Kombat : Annihilation, on the other hand - I'd
just as soon forget that exists. There was always a rumor a third installment would be made, and sure enough here
comes news that Threshold Entertainment is planning on a building a 150,000-square foot production studio / theme park
hybrid in order to make the film. ""There would be actual movies being made there, and an observation platform to
watch" says Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff, who is lampooning this project.
Any ideas on a plotline for the next Mortal Kombat film? There are some die-hard Mortal Kombat fans out there,
surely you have some ideas! I'd like to see more Rayden, and maybe Kabal could run down the streets of New
Orleans slicing through Mardi Gras. Well, maybe not.

ooo yaaaa, i would like to some more of kitana and sonya. johnny can rise from the grave too.
i would prefer more of the classic characters than the ones in the new games.
they shud bring in the younger sub zero and some sub vs scropion action.
iNtErNaL_dying @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
A new MK movie? Great...although if they do make a third installment, make sure it doesn't consist of corny scenes and cheezy 80's fight music, the haircuts were just hilarious...
Chris Maguire @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
80's music and haircuts? The first MK movie was released in 1995!

"I just assume forget that exists" ... I think you meant "I'd just as soon forget that exists"
Ross Miller @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Chris -- yeah, it did come out in 95, you're right, but to me the style was still late 80's/early 90's, but I clarified that all the same - thanks.
And OtakuCODE - wow, that's what I get for writing articles late at night for morning posts. Sorry about that, it's fixed - thankie.

Honestly, if they come out with a third movie, it better be rated R. Mortal Kombat became known because of its fatalities and gore. None of that kiddie rated G stuff-mortal kombat generation is grown now! Also, if they are worried about money and making mortal kombat last through generations, start with deception, and go from there. That's just my opinion. I 've been a mortal kombat fan since day one. I hope they learn their mistakes from the mk1 and mk2 movies. One suggestion-stick to the story and they won't fail...

80s music...? It's industrial music... You know, Rammstein, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM? Probably not if you chalked that off to the likes of Take on Me , Karma Chameleon, and Hey Mickey.
As for his haircut, in the game it was a moptop to begin with
http://www.youthink.com/quiz_images/quiz570outcome1.jpg
So you really can't blame that on the movie, that's more so the character designer's fault from the first game.
MK:Annihilation was good for a soundtrack and that's about it. Then again, you think it's 80's music...
TarikB @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Possibly a continuation of the live action TV series? Never seen it myself but i seen to remeber it had at least a season.
Not Impressed (Dmitri) @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
#7 you need help learning the definition of "industrial music"
Excel @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Rammstein and NIN are usually though of as in the same genre of music, and Rammstein is classified as industrial. So nya-nya.
Rayden's freaking awesome. I hope they have the long-haired him, though, he looks cooler that way.
A third MK movie would be awesome, especially if they fix the whole freaky special effects thing they had going on in Annihilation. That dragon was just creepy looking, dang.
chill @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Havent they learned yet? video game movies = huge piles of crap.
Tony @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
All I can say....saw the first Mortal Kombat 7 times in the theatre. Nuff said.
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Uhh, Dmitri...? Why would I have to learn the definition of industrial? Anyone with have a brain cell can identify it when they hear it. It's metal meets techno for the most simplistic term. Which would be all the bands I listed. Let me make it a bit easier for you. Go to wikipedia and look up any of the following bands from the first movie's OST.
-Fear Factory
-Gravity Kills
-KMFDM
-Psykosonik
-Juno Reactor
-Geezer
-Sister Machine Gun
-Type O Negative
-Bile
-Napalm Death
-Buckethead
But yeah, thousands of people and critics MUST be wrong in identifying it as industrial. Dmitri knows all, especially defining a genre he can't even identify properly.
'tard.

#12 LOL and you admit it...So how many times did you see the second one?
Christopher7xii @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Well, I'm not sure if any of you have looked at the DVD of MK:A... But it has a "jump to fight" feature listed on the box. Just goes to show that everything else is in the movie is just fodder. Skip all that 'acting' and 'plot' junk.
That's when you know a movie is bad.
BoB @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
there is one name that I cannot stress enough for this. Christopher Lambert. What else needs to be said? MK rocked my socks off, MKA was a piece of... well, Mortal Krap. Why? I've recently Discovered a formula that states the level of Awesome in a Mortal Kombat movie is directly Proportionate to the amount of Lambert, and the level of Extreme Suckage is directly proportionate to the lack of Lambert. Argue all I want, but Math is our ally in this.
Neo88 @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
Hmm last i checked rayden was spelt like raiden o.O don't know if i was the only one that caught this..

Nothing there anymore, but I'm sure someone can find the old pages, but they had alot of news about MK3 and that they were trying to get the Original cast back...
You can also see the short live TV series there.

Depends on the source for Rayden
MK1 - Rayden
http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/genesis/b/MKIGenRayden1.gif
MK2 - Raiden
http://tabmok99.mortalkombatonline.com/ogmorth-bio-raiden.gif
Unreal Championship 2 - Raiden
http://www.mortalkombat.ch/news/20050227/ut2_raiden.jpg
MK4 - Raiden (couldn't find a pic)
MK: The Movie - Raiden (IMDB)
MK:Annihilation - Rayden (IMDB)
--------------------------------------
You think they'd come to a consensus on it. Original data says Rayden, most current says Raiden. Guess it's more so dependant on when you started playing MK. I personally say Rayden because Raiden makes me think of that fag from Metal Gear Solid 2, and an awesome arcade scroll shooter game(ya know, with the ships).
The Undertaker @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
A third MK movie?, that sounds cool... well as long as the mk3 director would be someone like Mel Gibson. Why him you ask? hell, didn't you see Brave Heart and The Passion of the Christ?... yes, I'm talking about a LOT OF BLOOD. It would be great if we could see the Sub Zero MK1 (the game) Fatality (I think it's called the Spine-Rip Fatality).
And the fights in the movie... you can tell me whatever you want, but I think that in both MK1 and MK:Annihilation SUCK!!! The fights would be more interesting if they were like in Jackie Chan's movies, I mean very tricky but awesome moves, speed and coordination... and of course let add them BLOOD :D.
By the way, Robin Shou really suck as Lui Kang (he totally forgot the turkey like voice and he's very slow to punch dodge or kick), why didn't they put in Ho Sung Pak in the 1st place? (Ho Sung Pak is the real Lui Kang in both MK and MK" the game).
Gaurav @ Dec 18th 2005 10:08PM
That's a great news for MK-3.MK-1&2 are one of my favourite movies. do not change the characters like Sonya & Kitana.Talisa Soto suits for the role and about Sandra Hess give her a chance to prove herself once again. one additional character can be added the girl starring Charlie's Angels 'Lucy liu'.She is perfect and teriffic in fights.
